Hi everyone, back in America to visit family for X-Mas, downloading DAO DA2 and DAI so I can do my full runthrough.

In other news, I just got my DAI tarot deck! If anyone has silly Solas related reading requests or otherwise, feel free to post 'em or send me a message. :)

Okay fellow Solassians (is that what we are, btw?  Do we have a name?  I'm totally down with a name... as long as it's nothing like -shudders- "Cumberbitches" ) I need a little assistance.  I'm about to do my totally beta'd, 100% metagamed, canon play-through (A mage Lavellan, although I struggled long and hard over whether she'd be an archer or a mage) and I want to make sure that I trigger the "What lies dormant" quest.  I've never gotten it before, and it makes me a sad panda.  How do I do it?  Do I just go to the hinterlands, come straight back to haven and talk to solas?  Can I initiate the measuring the veil quest that way?  and if I do, will it work around the what lies dormant bug?  Please help- must... have... as... much... Solas... as... possible.

I have tried everything I can think of to get Measuring the Veil to trigger as a tracked quest, as suggested on the bug report. bug report. I've tried getting the quest in the field, getting the quest in the field and sneaking past that other Dalish elf, returning to haven right after entering hinterlands and getting it from Solas there, and doing the same then sneaking past the dalish elf. I dunno if she even has anything to do with it outside of the amulet of power for Solas. Either way, it never triggers as a tracked quest regardless of how I get it started, and the quest completes after I activate the first one.

So I dunno if this is where all the troubles that result in What lies dormant never triggering begin or not. Either way, looks like I may be doomed to another playthrough without seeing it myself. At this point I'm curious how those who have managed to get it did things. And it would be nice to see the issue at least acknowledged by the official sorts. :/

Hello. :) I'm a fellow egg-head elf fan, normally I lurk.

However, with all of the discussion about DLC and such, I though I'd pop in and do some selfpromoting on a fanfic. Specifically, the kind of ending I am seriously wishing for: http://morning2glory...-age-fanfiction

Lemme know if you like it!

Ah, well. There is a little venom, but I think Solas has received a pretty good reception overall. I'd say he's definitely more liked than Anders, anyways.

I have a tendency to like the really polarizing characters (Morrigan, Miranda, Anders, etc.)  But I got so sick of having to clarify that loving Anders as a CHARACTER does not mean I agree with his viewpoints or actions.  That and the ME3 snaffu are pretty much why I stopped using BSN until the run-up with Inquisition.

Now I just hide out here in the blanket fort  :D And lurk on the Cullen thread.  Curly is very, very pretty even if I'm never gonna get around to romancing him.

My problem is not the ball. I like not having to wear a dress. (I hate dresses with a passion from age six)

But the bland Skyhold robe without texture is terrible. Even if coloured, is quite indecent, and is horrible on both male and female elves. (and is not so good on lady Qunari too) It put in even more evidence how wrong or cringe worty are certain body models.

Male Elf is an anorexic twelve years old, and the female is not much better. All those buttons make her look like a snake, execially while running.

is really sad that with so much personalization we have on our character (hairsyles a part, that are sad to say the least) the crafting, and the fortress, we can't change clothes.

To each their own.  I don't like wearing dresses on myself for most occassions, but I still enjoy and appreciate styles from other eras.  I'd love to see my elf in a dress.

In Scuttlebutt, the venom hurts me physically. It really makes me so grateful that I have an open mind.

I've taken a peek at the thread, not as bad as I thought.

I get offended for him when people say he is boring though :|

There are less thoughts of "he is a horrible selfish person" than I thought there would...

But there is one person there that makes me a bit annoyed, he called Solas Hilter T_T

I'm not leaving this thread, at least on topics about Solas.  I like it here.  Seeing him bashed makes me worry about how fan reaction would affect any future appearances (i.e. give him a smaller role).  I don't care what others think, just how his popularity will affect how he's treated in the future.

*paranoid*

edit: Then again, a lot of people hated on Cullen and he had decent treatment... so... I don't know :/

Yeah, those are the kind of posts that tend to upset me. Kind of...blind hatred almost. I really do find it physically painful. I've always had a problem with posts like that here.

All of the talk about DLCs has made me sooo nervous. We are a loud and pleasant crew, but I'm worried that there aren't enough people who like Solas to warrant a DLC for him!!! pleeeeeease give us one pleeeeeeeease. I played DA:O back in 2009, but I wasn't part of any of the communities, so I don't know what the fanbase reaction was. Did people like Morrigan a lot? Was the Morrigan DLC a planned thing? Do enough people like Solas? I mean, they wouldn't just.. give us that beautiful romance with a cliffhanger epilogue and then say "Okay! I'm goin to lunch!" and never call us? Right?

Joining in on the questions, I wondered as well

Most people seem to like him hun, but it doesn't take much to make me turn tail and run, just one venomous rant will do that for me....and since this is my safe haven....

Gosh, that darn floating teacup. I just got that scene on my Trevelyan playthrough and I facepalm everytime I see that.  xD

EDIT: On Solas, people generally seem to like him, but I've also seen people who complain that he was too boring and don't take him along for quests. And yes, there are those who just absolutely despise him.

I just hope Bioware will give Solas a more "Morrigan" treatment and not an "Anders" treatment with regards to future content.  :(

Ah yes, Solas is Hitler.  This makes sense since Solas is always going on about exterminating the other races.  Also his flagrant power hungry tendencies do get very obnoxious.  I mean the guy really wants to sit on a throne and dictate Thedas, as we all have seen.

Also this one time I saw him making shifty eyes at Poland.

/end sarcasmProtocal

I love how the second anyone says, "Wow, I like my race.  It's pretty awesome.  I wish more people of my race were happy and awesome like me."  People immediately cry Hitler.  Let's not even talk about how there is no way Solas ever led a genocidal march.

Morrigan was a pretty polarizing character from what I've seen of the old forums.  Some people hated her so much that there was a popular "slap Morrigan" mod made (and people do seem to love punching Solas).  So... maybe there's hope?

Besides, Solas has a large role in the story-- much larger than Morrigan, I dare say.

...maybe I need to stop over thinking this until there's ever any confirmation of DLC XD

I was one of those people who didn't like Morrigan.  *hangs head*  However, I was fascinated by her and wanted to see more.  I'm 100% sure that we're going to see him again.  I'm just scared that we won't like what we get.  I do doubt that we'll have to kill him though, at least not immediately.  They spent so much effort building him up that it would be a crime to simply kill him off.

This Dalish myth, which seems to be the sculptural basis for the red lyrium idol, in which the Sun seems to be represented by a figure that is at least partially dragon. (That part is fractured, but the basic form is still suggestive.)

The dragon-god connection is traceable well after that, but if the connection holds, everything that followed would have been in emulation, to some degree. He would have been the original.

Ah. I guess that's why I don't draw the connection. I don't see the dragon in the idol. I suppose if I had to think of anything the idol would be A. Just an idol depicting a random scene or B. Mythal protecting the people from some cataclysm. It would be interesting if it were a depiction of when Mythal was betrayed.

That codex entry suggested to me that Elgar'nan clashed with his creator and that myth was what filtered down. I like to try to keep my theories simple. Not as fun connecting all the dots though....

It's fun to speculate but I always keep telling myself to keep it in check because Bioware is totally going to blow my theories out of the water lol.

Whether we'd have to kill him with our Inquisitor or a new protagonist in DA4, I'd be pretty bitter about him being a romance option.  At least with other past LI's in DA: O and DA2 you could choose to (at least try to) kill or doom them-- but it was your choice.  I don't like the idea of having no option but to kill a romance because he turned out to be Satan in disguise.  That's pretty twisted.

Most people seem to like him, but the ones who don't seem to be very vocal about how much they hate him. I'm going to stay here. I suppose liking him requires a certain degree of understanding him, while some people have re-played with the sole purpose of achieveing that, others probably never will.

I feel like I might be the only one who is okay with him being a bad person who became a slightly less bad person. I'm also okay with hating him and liking him at the same time. I like that he's kind of a shitty person who lied and regretted it. That feeling of betrayal mixed with feeling sorry for him, makes it just complicated and dramatic enough for me to fall head over heels.

This is probably because I'm a crazy person IRL.

You can learn from haters, and thus far I haven't seen much mindless hate. The people who think he's boring, I just don't know what to say about that. The lore insight alone that he and Cole bring make them valuable characters. I guess some people don't have patience to pick up the subtleties. Also with him and Blackwall, you really don't see the full character outside the romance.

By the way, does anyone have any good post-game fanfics?

I need something to quench my Solas thirst and the game can't fulfill that role anymore (so. empty. without him.)
