You can learn from haters, and thus far I haven't seen much mindless hate. The people who think he's boring, I just don't know what to say about that. The lore insight alone that he and Cole bring make them valuable characters. I guess some people don't have patience to pick up the subtleties. Also with him and Blackwall, you really don't see the full character outside the romance.

My boyfriend is the type not to read codexes and such, and probably won't give a hoot about the lore if he'll get to play the game.

He might find Solas boring but I don't think so, I'm pretty surprised people find him boring TBH.

I don't know about anyone else, but I just really want a Fight Club ending. Solas and the Inquisitor standing on top of a cliff holding handswhile the veil falls apart around them and the Pixies play in the background.

Solas: You met me at a very strange time in my life

Inquisitor: Oh yeah, ya think?

So I had this bouncing around in my head during a walk yesterday.

I would like it if the only way to really end up with Solas in some sort of future DLC was to take all his powers away. Like he wants to open the gates to the black city (I assume this is where the other elvehn gods are kept) and you need to stop him.

You are faced with a choice:

A.)  Let him open the gates and keep all the power he has accumulated and stored away.

b.) Take his powers away through some sort of whatever magicty doo thing that you had to get through a bunch of side quests.

Option A results in him opening the first gate and all the minds and spirits of the other gods taking over his body. You find they want vengeance, tribute, and dominance over the world. You must fight him and kill him before they reach full power. In his dying breath when he has him mind back again he tells you he loves you and that he is sorry for everything.

----

Option B results in him losing all his powers, and all the influences of the souls and powers in him. When you do this it kinda clears his head a bit, and looks like he feels really shitty. You find that he was also being manipulated by the other gods from the black city and the only way to have stopped this influence was to steal all his power away into an orb or something. He is no longer a god, or powerful, or even immortal.

He tells you he loves you and is sorry for all his mistakes. You say you forgive him. And that seems to mean the world to him. You two build an new elvehn empire together using the wisdom Solas has of the past, and the leadership and peaceful perspective of the inquisitor. The influence of the inquisitor helps make good relations with other kingdoms so that the same mistakes are not made again (this can be effected by how much power you gained over the game or something). It’s not like how it was before, that was the mistake. They had to make a new land with new ideas.

-----------------

So anyway I kinda like the idea that being with him would cost all his cool godliness. I mean yeah being a god is hot and all but I like him as a person. Everyone has to die at some point, and kings shouldn't live forever.

Alright...I need to move on until some DLC for Solas is created. I can't keep making elves and romancing Solas over and over..though it is appealing and I love Solas, hearing the same lines over and over is starting to get to me. So..I made a human rogue ****** to romance Blackwall with. I already romanced Cullen...that was so sweet!  I'm going to miss you, Solas...but I will always come back!!

Whether we'd have to kill him with our Inquisitor or a new protagonist in DA4, I'd be pretty bitter about him being a romance option.  At least with other past LI's in DA: O and DA2 you could choose to (at least try to) kill or doom them-- but it was your choice.  I don't like the idea of having no option but to kill a romance because he turned out to be Satan in disguise.  That's pretty twisted.

I'll echo with the same thoughts, if there is no choice for the outcome I'll be disappointed. But, I also feel that BioWare knows having a choice is pretty important to the fans. So I'm hoping for a resolution that satisfies everyone - those that don't like him and those that love him maybe a bit more than they should...

I suggest making a non elf male inquisitor and romancing dorian.

I feel like I might be the only one who is okay with him being a bad person who became a slightly less bad person. I'm also okay with hating him and liking him at the same time. I like that he's kind of a shitty person who lied and regretted it. That feeling of betrayal mixed with feeling sorry for him, makes it just complicated and dramatic enough for me to fall head over heels.

This is probably because I'm a crazy person IRL.

It's mostly because the evidence points against him being a bad person even early on that I don't follow this belief. The face he made when no one looking while you tried closing the Breach very early in the game?

mzAj026.png

There's also how he gains approval when you help random people and how he makes comments like "the People of Crestwood deserve better.

I think he's plenty complicated and dramatic as he is. Unlike Anders I don't think he intends for things to blow up. They just do, and he has to live with the consequences. He also has many shades of gray to go with his morals, and he holds some troubling Ancient Culture Superiority beliefs.

Mmm, Sera fans really dislike Solas.

I don't hate Sera, she is interesting butt ( ) as a Lavellan it was tough for me to connect with her.

She immediately accuses my Inqi as being elfy and hates elves just because (the prejudice is strong with this one :|).

While Solas is indeed a bit 'elfy', Sera is really, actively, anti-'elfy', and for bad reasons. If people deem Solas racist then how can they say she isn't as well? It's just against a very specific race, is it because she is an elf herself? (I don't think Solas is racist btw, he isn't the nicest to Dalish elves as well. I do think he is an elitist though, but I like him having flaws so all is good). Any character of any race (other than elf) that will speak like her we be frowned upon and deemed racist.

My Lavellan did become friends with her, but only after she managed to see past that trait of her. On the other hand Lavellan also thinks it's silly that Sera is Andrastian, especially after what happened at the Temple of Mythal. Once you get past her childishness she makes a lot of sense and she has good insights (childlike insights, like a child would ask "why do people go to war?" or "why are people mean to each other?" etc, the innocent truths of the world people never question out of habit and such).

By the way, did your Lavellans get along with Sera?  :P

After the breakup with Solas my Lavellan went to sit with Sera on the roof :<

Edit: Also, although Solas does not agree with many of the views of his companions I always felt he is really open-minded, I felt that way even before I made a character for him, I think it's probably what made him to intriguing to me.

My Lavellan and Sera were like sisters. They played pranks, threw cookies at people...fun times. Lavellan could see her point of view..even if she disagreed. She really understood after that whole roof thing. I didn't really take Sera with me much though, so I didn't hear much banter between her and Solas.

If anyone is worried about Solas's romance not getting enough notice, he was at least ahead in the old poll found in this thread.

Question about the dialogue options after the Winter Palace:

Spoiler

No, I dont think it is bugged. He explains his stance on Briala and the elves if you bring up that youre sorry of their fate because you expect him to care about it.

You get somewhat similar effect when choosing romance dialogue after other big choices. You say youre there for him he thanks you and you learn nothing. I think its somehow part of the character, or at least the romance path,  that you are kept a bit more in the dark about what his goals are.

I don't mind Sera, though I honestly was surprised at how bitter her comments about a Solas x Lavellan romance sound. I hadn't heard that because I was trying to get it to trigger in-game, and was expecting it to be more like immature teasing, but when I finally heard it on YouTube I was surprised she's genuinely nasty. Solas may have earned that by needling her but my Lavellan sure didn't. Ah well, she is what she is. Solas' problem is that he didn't just nod his head and leave her alone. There wouldn't be any dialogue if he did that.

I have a love-hate thing for Sera. xD

On one hand, she makes me laugh and amidst all her strange ramblings, sometimes she makes sense. And my Lavellan did enjoy going along with the pranks Sera pulled on her advisors. But I really got annoyed once Sera started laughing and gloating about how wrong the Dalish were after the whole Temple of Mythal thing. Not to mention how she laughs at Lavellan when you start talking to her about why Lavellan no longer has the vallaslin on her face. Talk about kicking someone when they're down.  <_<

So yeah, I never really took her around much because she sometimes irritated me.  -_-

And I never got that roof scene.

My Lavellan respected Sera but never fell close to her because she never really 'grows up' like the Inquisitor is forced to do.

But as the player I love Sera and believe she is exactly the breath of fresh air needed to realize the little people just want a normal life they dont care more of templars or mages or court...

Too bad I was too busy being the one in charge (as Lavellan) to drop to her level. Varric is probably the one most on her level since im not playing mage Lavellan. So I played Wicked Grace (grown up fun), but told Sera she could do pranks on her own. No friendship card for me :(

At least during the laughing about the vallaslin thing Sera did say something to the effect "well you know better" (since Lavellan got them removed). Still, it was insensitive to laugh about misunderstandings on one's culture right after someone experienced a breakup.

Throughout the game I was love/hate with Sera, and when I told her she was like family at the very end I realized that was how it was and why the love/hate existed.

So..I've kind of lost interest in my Trevalyn/Cullen romance playthrough. It just didn't end up being as interesting as my Lavellan/Solas one. Mostly just continuing to see how quickly I can kill all the dragons as a tempest DW rogue...

Made a new female dwarf, to romance Blackwall. Hopefully that one's more interesting?

If not I guess I'll revert to just making endless Lavellans. Sigh. I hope Solas hasn't ruined all future bioware romances for me...

I went through the same thing.  *hugs*  I found that the only way to find relief was making a male Lavellan and crushing on both him and Solas.

That is, until we get DLC or the next game or whatever and then I'll make a fresh female Lavellan to experience the whole thing again.

*sigh*  Varric, if anyone could have wrenched my heart from the grasp of a god ... it would have been you.  It would have been you ...

Speaking of which, I would really like to branch out a bit and romance others.  Would you guys recommend a Dorian break or an Iron Bull one?  I don't really want romance spoilers just a nudge in the right direction.

Cassandra.  No, seriously.  She's such a total sweetheart.  And Solas loves her, too.   :)

I liked Sera, and I enjoyed her banter with Solas, I think they're hilarious. They are like opposite, really, it's pretty normal they don't like each other so much. But I don't believe they hate each other. Just listen to the banter between Solas and Viv: so much worse. He can be an a**, no doubt, just as much as Sera, but there's no hate between them, imo.

I don't know, I found pretty sweet that she pranks him like everyone else (she puts lizards in his bed) and he teases her by impling that she could have magic talent in return. Felt like family dynamics.

In the context of her life she probably resents having a lot of expectations on her. She was out of line, but I understand where she's coming from. If you come from a family that expects you to marry within your own race or religion, you can get pretty resentful. I know that she was raised by humans, but all the elves around her putting expectations on her probably makes her feel controlled.

Being told that you have to do things a certain way or you are letting down everyone, or purposely losing something, can feel really bad. She probably acts defiantly about it to protect her from those judgements.
