Sera and my Lavellan were oil and water. I tried to be nice to her, but I played my character as a little older and very serious about her responsibilities to her people and her clan, so Sera was constantly hassling me about being too "elfy." I found Sera to be too irresponsible and mean to be friends with her. I disliked her so intensely, it's hard for me to imagine anyone but an intentionally evil Inquisitor getting along with her. (Sorry, I honestly don't think those of you who like her are evil, I just saw all her worst moments and missed her good stuff, so it's hard for me to relate.)
First of all, I get it. I'm not the greatest Sera fan especially because of how mean she is to my precious Cole. But she has grown on me. Because she feels like my bratty sister and Cole kind of turns into her brother (especially towards the end). You don't have to be evil to gain approval. There is usually a middle ground option that I take. Essentially don't tell her she's wrong and don't tell her she's right, just question her and make her explain herself. Also she is typically fine with being called "nuts". She knows it.
Though she is hard to get approval for. Usually I just wing it. If you think of her as a family member it makes her easier to understand and like. Sera isn't a warrior like everyone else. She is a girl and she wants a home. Like Cole.

Don't agree in regards to Solas. The Inquisitor can either make him reconsider his views or else reinforce them. For a character like that even to consider a romance is already a big development for him. I guess you could say the same of Sera and an elf.
Does he really reconsider his beliefs or does he just make an exception for one person? You are right though. Solas learning to respect and trust (to some extent) the Inquisitor at all is growth.

I'd say he also shows growth in interactions with other characters. He accepts Varric's wisdom regarding not wanting to be a mighty rock dwarf (or whatever) and apologizes to Blackwall after yelling at him (because he knows he was a hypocrite, bad Solas). He also says he's open to new ideas when talking to Cass regarding the Maker and he respects and admires her person and her faith. If Bull leaves the Qun he becomes a huge supporter, going as far as to say Bull "has him". This coming from Mr. Aloof and Guarded himself. I don't think he's making an exception for one person. There are a few people within the Inquisition that he respects aside from the Inquisitor. I think they impact him and how he sees others as well.

By the way, did your Lavellans get along with Sera?
After the breakup with Solas my Lavellan went to sit with Sera on the roof :<
I've been working hard on this playthrough to be friends with Sera. So far, we've gotten to pranks. But it's a constant struggle to be friendly.
I play my character as a bit older, solitary person (scouting & hunting can keep her well away from the the clan), making her socially awkward and a bit lonely for friends. Sera says and does all the fun and exciting things my Lavellan always wanted to be part of, so she wants to join in with Sera's pranking and jokes. Except Sera makes these absolutely horrifying remarks about elves, while it's the only life my Lavellan knows. So, it's a hot-cold relationship on the part of my Lavellan.

At first I didnt like Sera much because of the whole too elfy stuff. But I can understand where she is coming from. My Lavellan would joke about her magic and try not to force her religious views on her. It worked in the end. After the break up..the eating cookies on the roof scene was heart warming. She does remind me of the bratty younger sister.

This is not really Solas related (well it is slightly because I want to make him the perfect armor). I just want to say how much I like this game's crafting system. I found a tier 3 dagger schematic. I used a fade touched item that gives guard on hit and because rogues have good attack speed, I suddenly became a lot more durable. I feel like I am always finding something new in this game. My character feels slightly OP now even though I play on hard. I do wish that schematics and crafting materials are more easily gathered though.

Look at everyone, being so grim and fatalistic.
...Is there something we should be worrying about with the people in this thread?
Our elven god boyfriend dumped us. That's what's wrong. XD
No, we need more happy headcanons. I'll start:
Terrwyn can be playful. She teases Solas and loves making him laugh. One day she goes up to him and says: "Hey, can you check the Anchor? It feels weird." When he brings up her hand to look at it, she grabs his nose. The change in his voice when he tells her to let go makes her laugh so hard, she barely has time to react when he picks her up and throws her into the nearby pond. When she breaks the surface of the water, she points at him and yells something in the elven tongue - something she mispronounces: "You will pork the bread!" That's the first time Terrwyn made Solas fully chuckle-snort, and her heart just goes "ba-bump".

My Lavellan is just like me. Can't stand Sera.
Sadly, Sera think otherwise.
Normally I like the goofy or bratty characters, but in this case I don't.
I (and consequently, my Lavellan) liked Sera until her comment on the vallaslin. Now she's on the top of my Dragon Age **** list. Because I'm petty like that
. Still, that really bothered me because it came off as very cruel and vindictive in that context. I don't like people who are cruel just for the sake of it or their own entertainment.
I also regret letting her kill that noble in my new playthrough (because I heard about that scene and was curious). That wasn't funny- the way she killed him was disturbing.

How much of that is growth and how much of that is who he was when he was introduced? He is open to new ideas. Was that ever untrue? He's willing to reconsider and change his mind. Was that ever untrue? He's compassionate with Bull when Bull is struggling. Was Solas ever not compassionate during the course of the game?
Only his opinion of the Inquisitor seems to impact the way he sees other races to any extent.
Edit: You've listed a lot of Solas's positive character traits. He doesn't grow into those, they define him throughout the game. Not every good thing a character does is growth. Solas is a pretty well established character when we meet him and I imagine that was intentional. There's definitely room for growth though.

I'll go cry in a corner.
It's really sad if he removes the Vallaslin. He tells her that what she thought was a symbol of pride for her people really stands for subjugation. He takes away something that she identified with her whole life, then leaves her. She would have a constant reminder every time she looks at herself. And other companions remind her as well.

I understand Sera and where she's coming from and I want to like her but she reminds me of all of the most irritating people I know rolled up into one little package.
My Inquisitor managed to be friends with her, though. You have to dance carefully in some conversations when it comes to not being too elfy but not denouncing everything you know to please her. The cookies on the roof scene was cute, at least.

I imagine my Lavellan makes it her mission to make him chuckle-snort some more. Poor Solas needs more laughter in his life!

I like what you say but I would put it on a longer time frame... Solas starts to connect ot others through interactions. I think he would change, or grow since ts in a positive direction, if he wouldnt slam the door on everything with that plan of his.
Its like .human' Solas almost gets there, specially with the romance, then ... bam! 'God' Solas takes over and he has to fix old mistakes.
I think what comes next will decide if he completes a 'growth' arc of a 'fall back' one.

First PT I didn't let her kill him but then she pouted at me when we came back so I was like 'oh well, ok, you can kill him' with my Lavellan...
It was horrible, I felt terrible watching her kill him, stomping at him over and over and over. It was unnerving, I felt like I awoken a monster. I was surprised that neither Solas nor Cass said anything.

I love Sera. I think it is the first conversation at Haven where you can laugh in response and tell her to "please keep questioning everything - you'll keep us grounded". And that's exactly what she does. It would be easy to get caught up in the grand narrative of it all - but Sera reminds us what we are really fighting for. The well-being of all the peoples of Thedas.
The scene about her background on the roof, with the cookies... ugh. That got me right in the feels. Someone so angry at how the world can be so bad to you simply because of the circumstances of your birth... something you can never change, regardless of how much good you can achieve in life. That agony and frustration!
I have never felt invested in the elves in previous Dragon Age games. Helping individuals yes, but not invested in their race as a whole. Suddenly, Sera has me wanting to make the world better just for her - and Solas has me wanting to learn about their history.
And really, if the outcome of meeting Solas is as pessimistic as some have suggested... that he may give an ultimatum such as "you can either be immortal with me or remain mortal and we shall part ways"... would the Inquisitor really leave behind a lifetime of potential positive influence on the world for such a self-centered reason?
(I'M SORRY SOLAS ;-; )

Yeah...I used the special noble dialogue option the first time I did Sera's sidequest, and I'm so glad I did. I never got to see that side of her. I know it's there, but I'd like to think she learned something from that encounter?
My Lavellan is not a huge fan of nobles either, but she's perfectly happy making them dance on puppet strings in the Game rather than murdering them.
