Anyone else get Solas saying "Check!" when an enemy goes down in a fight?
Omg, that happens?
He is such a geekkkk

*The moment when Solas failed*
I admit, I dont like him. Subjective. I am not here to argue on that matter, but to ask on the average fans opinion on 2x specific moments that contradict him.
Remember when you were on the way to Skyhold and Solas wanted to have "A word" when around the campfire? He talks about the focus that Cornyfisch had used, explains its Elven? And hints that it would be best to be discreet since it might damage the elven reputation even more? As time passes you get to the exalted plains and meet the Dalish camp and get on the mission to seek out the Boy who went missing. Well surpise surpise, he dies when poking blood magic and you are about to deliver the news. I chose to be on the soft side and tell he died a hero and voila Solas dares to disapprove. Kind of an A-hole since he wants ME to keep secrets for HIM why disagreeing when I decide to take the same course of action for somebody else.
Thoughts? :/

He's committed to truth. You lied to make the sister feel better. He doesn't give disapproval if you give a neutral report about the kid being stupid.

He asks you to keep the orb secret because elves are already widely hated throughout Thedas, the knowledge that the artifact Corypheous is elven can cause a lot of trouble. People will blame elves for being in cahoots with Cory and it could lead to a lot of deaths.
On the other hand, lying to a broken sister about the reason her brother died gets him upset. Saying he died a hero is wrong, he died meddling with blood magic without researching beforehand what it means (he doesn't mind blood magic, he believes magic is magic, and he is rather flexible with his views on it). Telling the sister the truth will not damage the reputation of the elves, his considerations are entirely different in that manner.
He is very consistent with his opinions and views, you just need to get on his wavelength ^^

What Addai said. Solas believes an uncomfortable truth is better than a comfortable lie. He values truth very highly.
That's why so much of what he tells you is in fact the truth. He very seldom outright lies to you, and only to keep his identity a secret (because not keeping his identity a secret would likely get him kicked out of the inquisition, no matter how much he wants to help). The greatest gift he knows how to give an Inquisitor who romances him is the truth. He's not able to bring himself to tell her the truth about himself, so he gives her a truth that he knows will mean a lot to her.

Beautifully put ![]()
So I just showed Solas's final mural to an uninterested third party who has never touched a Dragon Age game.
Said they, "It's a griffon about to groom a foot with a blade in it."
Griffons, ya'll!
Regarding the nature of Mythal: Didn't Solas say in the temple that she was a motherly type, nurturing, but also fierce and protective? I can't help but see that end credit scene as a downtrodden son seeking his mother's embrace and forgiveness. He wanted to fix the world that he broke, but he lost the power to do so. He's devastated and seems to expect that he's going to be sent to his room and punished on top of all that. What's a mother to do? Would she not sacrifice everything for her child(ren)?
Whatever their past or current connection, I still think that she gave up the ghost in order to grant Solas another chance. The I'm sorry on her part could be seen as a farewell in that light.
Well, I hope that is the case anyway. I know its been said before, but I will be very, very unhappy if he isn't himself anymore at the end of it all. At this point, my ridiculous attachment to this character dictates that anything else would likely destroy all enjoyment of the franchise.
Must beat new playthrough and study this scene more... only 80 somethin hours to go...

I dunno he lied about what he said to Abelas at the temple of mythal. But maybe he was just bending the truth.
Anyway he doesn't say to keep the orb secret. He tells her it's elven, and that they'll have to manage the reaction to that when the truth about it comes out, and for the moment she needs to embrace her role as Inquisitor in order to allow the movement to flourish and accomplish its goal. I think the only reason he tells her anything about the orb is because he's trying to nudge her towards destiny, very Flemeth-like.
I just love that mountaintop scene to bits, especially if Lavellan declares her doubt. The next thing she knows, these ragtag shems are kneeling in front of her. I like to think that Solas overheard her declaring that she's not the Herald and his scene after that is him giving her perspective on what she can accomplish by accepting a temporary role. He gives approval if she chooses the cynical view that it all won't last, but for now, the sky needs to be repaired and the humans are willing to follow her. Then they both lead them all to Skyhold. I wub it. WUB.

I had this same thought this morning when I was pondering this earlier today, we've seen another mother ready to sacrifice herself for her son too, Morrigan.

I loved it too, though my Inquisitor is a cautious optimist. She expressed all kinds of doubt about her own supposed divinity, but she still trusts the people of the Inquisition, and told Solas that she did. She still really appreciated having someone around who didn't believe in her, though. Being seen as some sort of demigod is a lot of pressure, and Solas is in a unique position to recognize that. I think he took her aside in part to let her know that not everyone in the Inquisition is a true blue believer.
Isn't it also possible that Solas just didn't want the inquisitor to tell anyone about the orb in order to keep anyone from looking into the issue further, thus finding out about Solas' involvement? I recall a banter where Cass asked him how he arrived at Haven when he did and he made some excuse. He just doesn't want his cover to be blown so he feeds Lavellan some bs about people already being suspicious of elves...

But people are suspicious of elves. A lot of people still believe that the Dalish steal babies and use them for blood magic. Plus, Briala is currently waging a guerrilla war in the middle of the Orlesian conflict. And the orb is indeed elven. I don't doubt that if that fact had come to light then elves would have suffered further. It's easy to make scapegoats of already-marginalized people. There's a lot of suspicion and fear in Thedas, even after the breach is closed.
Not saying it can't be both, but it's a very real concern.
About what exactly?
He told us he said he hoped Abelas found a new name. But he really said something like "the time has past, the one blood is finished, Abelas" or "Now the blood is finished, Abelas".
I didn't know all the words and some were unknown, so I used other words to figure out what they meant with other translations I knew.
I assume he was saying this debt/blood debt/slavery/oath to Mythal was done. There is a codex entry from what I assume is Abelas saying he devotes his life to her death and stuff. Vallaslin is blood writing, which originates in slavery. He's probably just saying his voluntary slavery is over?
Or maybe he is saying the "one blood" as in the old elven blood is done.

Well isn't what he told you he said just a paraphrased version of what he actually said? If he told Abelas that he no longer needs to devote his life to the memory of Mythal, then Abelas is free to relinquish his sorrow. And his sorrow over Mythal's death is what he chose to name himself for. Without going into all the details (and raising uncomfortable questions about how he knows all this) he told you the essence of what he said.
I agree...it wasn't really a lie..he just left parts out.

He left out some pretty important details. Which I guess is his nature. I don't consider what he did exactly truthful. Lying and intentionally hiding details of the truth are not that different.

How did you translate that?
I knew I should've checked what he said, I always wondered why he felt the need to explain what he said to my elf Inqi.
Though it isn't quite far from what he told us.

Well he's as truthful as he can be, given the circumstances. Of course he has to bend the truth a bit to keep his story about being an "average elven apostate" intact. Because the bigger picture of being around to help the Inquisition and ultimately retrieve his orb from Cory precludes telling the entire truth.
But, for instance, he could've just said "it's an elf thing" or even an outright lie. But he doesn't. He takes giving answers seriously. Even when Sera asks what "excuse me" is in elven to set up a joke, he honestly tells her what it is. He always tries to tell as much of the truth as he can justify, or tell it in a way that you know most of the truth, just not the part that pertains to who he is.

Melas = No current word known. Closest word is “Melana” or “Melava”, meaning time and time past.
Amelin = No known word. But the second part of the word “Lin” means blood. There is a song translated from elvish to english in which “Ame” is used several times in the context “ame amin” meaning “i am the one”. So this could mean “The one blood” OR "I am the blood".
Ne = ????
Halam = ending, the end, finished.
So it's was mostly guesswork.
Bonus pics of Mythal's face LOLing at Cory.

WHY DOES MYTHAL NOT HAVE POINTED EARS!?

Protecting himself and his identity is a good reason/excuse. But it doesn't make it less of a lie.
Edit: I want to point out that I'm okay with him lying, and I accept him for it. I just don't want to romanticize it.
Edit2: Oh no double post sorry!
Protecting himself and his identity is a good reason/excuse. But it doesn't make it less of a lie.
No, but I never said that he isn't lying. Just that he obviously tries to tell the truth as much as possible, even when it would be of no benefit to himself, which tells you a lot about what he values.
I mean, does paraphrasing what he said to Abelas make it a lie? I don't think so. He told you what he said.

I love how dedicated you are to finding things and cracking this mystery.
I admire you.
On another note:
Unhappy Cory is unhappy XD
Lovely
