Ok, so I agree we pretty much figured all of this out already. The only intriguing part is the bit about Morrigan and it makes me wonder if that means her drinking from the well is supposed to be canon? Especially when coupled with the line, "Listen to the voices, girl, they'll teach you as I never could."
Ooh I'm all excited.
Btw are we really moving this to another thread? Can I get some confirmation? I don't want to leave. I like it here. It's comfy.
The other thread is in a group made up of Solas thread people. It was started way back when before the game came out and someone had a huge spoiler about Solas in a media video. People were trying to avoid spoilers at the time, so we took the conversation out of the thread to respect that.
I see some of the discussion over the spoilery stuff, honestly I don't care what naughty things he may or may not have done or what he may do. As long as he returns to passionately take Lavellan into his arms and love her forever all can be forgiven. xD

Can't wait to learn more!
I got suspicious when he went on his rant about how the world was a better place when there was no veil. But I was like, "meh, I stuck with Anders after he blew up the chantry, I can stick with Solas if he destroys the veil."
But that wasn't what happened....at least not yet...
Yep, that was the point at which I (and my female Lavellan) went *lightbulb* Dude is lying, he was there.
Male Lavellan is not quite as sharp as he thinks he is.
Sorry to break into the front like this, but I'm catching up on the thread and this perfectly sums up my emotions.
It sucks so much, because there are definite moments in the game where I look at Solas and think, "Is this all part of your grand evil plan?"
Then I ignore it ... it doesn't matter ... all that matters is fade kisses and butt grabs and telling the quizzy how super awesome she is.
I'm pretty much on that train completely now, though. I get mental images of the writers sitting around with their heads in their hands bemoaning the fact that they made their new badass supervillain too sympathetic and look how long the Solas thread is and WHAT DO WE DO NOW?!
His chess match with the Iron Bull demonstrates how ruthless he is when it comes to winning. It's alarming to contemplate how well he knows everyone in the Inquisition, all their strengths and weaknesses. Sickening, actually.
Spoiler
I think it's that he is ruthless enough to kill his oldest friend, someone he obviously cares for, to carry out his plan. He is going to do whatever it takes without pausing to consider whether he should once again unilaterally decide what is best for the entire world. His goal trumps everyone else's lives.
I think this clarifies why he dumps the Inquisitor. If she gets in his way, she's not going to be an exception.
Yes. Poor Lavellan, you sweet summer child... another pebble under Fen'Harel's foot, even though she slowed him down a bit for a time.
Sorry to interrupt the flow of conversation, but wanted to pop in to drop this off so I can read ya'll's thoughts when I get home from work in an hour. Also sorry that formatting is wonk I had to copy and paste from an email. And finally sorry if this has been posted before, and for all the text (I have a lot of feels about this).
someone posted this on reddit, with possibly MAJOR (not kidding) spoilers for future content. Apparently they data mined some
designer notes regarding the epilogue and what exactly is going on
there, including who did what to who and why. I don't have enough
knowledge (read: I have no knowledge) of programming so it's
impossible for me to verify whether or not it's real, and I'm hoping
someone here can take a look at their screenshot and see if it looks
legitimate
Here's the actual spoiler -- supposedly verbatim from the designer notes:
Spoiler
Designer's Notes: This is Flemeth from the previous two games. In this
game, Flemeth's story comes to a head -- she knew that Solas would
summon her, and that he would need to steal her power to further his
plans. She knew that because they are both elven gods...yet Solas has
slept for a thousand years and his power dwindled, while she was
killed long ago and a spark escaped from her into the body she now
holds. She has nurtured that spark, and knew that Solas would need it.
He was once her oldest friend, but she knows in his drive to save the
elven people he will kill anyone -- even her. She intends to let him
have the power, so long as she can pass the essence of her god-hood
onto Morrigan, a gift Flemeth had always planned for her daughter yet
one Morrigan misunderstood as hostile possession.
Here's my reaction (still major spoilers)
Spoiler
It doesn't really "fit" with my interpretation of past and current
events or characterization and would mean that I've been pretty off
the mark in many cases. Parts of it make a lot of sense, and parts of
it just don't fit my view of Flemythal or Solas. Which would not be
entirely surprising because I'm often wrong, but it would be
disappointing to say the least. In fact I'd really feel like I'd been
smacked in the face, since taking Mythal's power in the way it's
described in the notes is pretty evil. Betraying your oldest friend?
Showing a willingness to kill anyone you need to in order to achieve
your goals? Evil.
It's hard to wave the Team Optimism banner right now guys. I'm feeling
kind of ugh, and I guess that's why they say these are "spoilers". I
need to find a way to recover my happy feelings TT.TT
Spoiler
Well isn't this what most of us thought was the case? I never thought that scene portrayed anything really all that benevolent. Solas following a villain's path to an extent isn't shocking. I just hope we can bring him back from the edge, partly because I like him and partly because....well, that's boring. It's a story that's been told thousands of times and within Dragon Age itself, though not to that extent. The person who wants to overhaul everything and make change must always end up being the villain. But look, they're a good person at heart look at all that depth! It's...kind of a cliche, as much as I hate to say it. One that I like normally but I hope for something a little more interesting for Solas.
Also, I really don't think this is fuel for "HE DIDN'T REALLY LOVE HEEEEEEEEEEER" when it comes to Lavellan. Clearly she meant quite a lot to him.
I see some of the discussion over the spoilery stuff, honestly I don't care what naughty things he may or may not have done or what he may do. As long as he returns to passionately take Lavellan into his arms and love her forever all can be forgiven. xD
He says he is enjoying reading our fan/love/hate posts about him:
Hey guys, I've been reading and reading this forum from day one and never thought I could add anything to the discussion, but man I have to now because I finished my first PT and I need SUPPORT FOR MY SHATTERED BRAAAAINS.
I played my Lavellan kind of like myself, a scientist, always looking for answers to the big questions but not really being held back by the potential consequences of her discoveries. She's fascinated by Solas and kind of on board for everything he says from the beginning...especially with the "spirits are people too" thing.
She's hurt that Solas, after all their agreements and collaboration on the strange theories he's presented to her throughout the story, just leaves her in the dust to continue the investigation on his own. She really loves their brains working together, and it's an insult to her that he doesn't think she's capable of being involved. She's made some ruthless choices in the course of the inquisition so there's no reason to think she wouldn't be willing to break a few eggs in the process of bringing about change. In my headcanon from the moment he turns his back she's already puzzling out how to find him; she's pissed and wants answers and possibly some of that good ol' angry sex when she inevitably outsmarts him in the end.
So in regards to those new possible spoilers/revelations, it doesn't bother me so much, because my Lavellan was down with being ruthless when it served her interests. I think it would bring about an interesting DLC at the least. Either your inquisitor was always good and merciful and would end up having to destroy Solas because his means did not justify the ends OR your inquisitor was more gray with her morals and decides to join him in his quest no matter the consequences. It doesn't really make a good case for being a totally good person all the time, but hey, the world is more often a miserable place full of miserable people...

Random thought: Given how Solas reacted to his spirit friend being harmed and killed, I wouldn't want to be in the shoes of anyone who hurt the Inquisitor, even after Lavellan's relationship with Solas is ostensibly ended. I doubt it would look pretty.
It would be a mass slaughter. With wolves.
I had Cole on the wolf mission and never got this dialogue. :C
Both his offended-ness and ego are showing.
Cole: Do you know a lot about wolves? Solas: I know that they are intelligent, practical creatures that small-minded fools think of as terrible beasts.
Ohhh matches well with a fic I'm writing. XD

The spoiler doesn't faze me much, not sure why it bothers others.
Spoiler
It's pretty much what we gleaned from the game, isn't it? I mean, they're still obviously friends and there's a degree of cooperation in that final scene, but each of them have their own agendas. Thus far it's pretty much standard DA and how I saw the characters anyway. It's in keeping with a Morrigan type story. She genuinely cares for the Warden as lover or friend, but ultimately wants what she wants for her goal and tries her utmost to get it.
Spoiler
As Fen'harel/solas/dread-wolf is a trickster, and I still regard him as a trickster even if he might also be a god of change or rebellion; and those two things often were what a trickster did.
But as a trickster, one should keep in mind they are rarely evil in most of their stories, even Loki is rather neutral till the whole ragnorack thing(which some people think was a later/christian idea and not a norse idea). But the point is in many stories Loki tends to screw up and make things bad. However Loki also was responsible for some of the good things as well, it was he who came up with a scheme to get Mjollnir back through stealth when it was lost, Loki who spoke to the dwarves to create Mjollnir, ended skadi's invasion and so on. Again most of this was covering his own ass as Loki had a hand in the problem in the first place.
I bring this up as I regard Fen'harel to be rather similar. He does tricks and tries to help people, bringing change but change also creates problems. I imagine that Like many other tricksters, ie see Loki above, that the whole cory thing was one of his mistakes and now he is working to fix his mistake.
Now if only Lavellen can be deified/achieve apothosis to be the dread-wolf's wife and consort
If there is anything I've learned about trickster gods, it's what you've said. They teach you to question authority, and they are very "be careful what you wish for."
Spoiler
Yeah like..FFS SOLAS JUST MAKE ME YOUR DAMN PARTNER SO WE CAN SAVE THE ELVEN PEOPLE TOGETHER! I'd be very much ok with this...
Pretty much this.
Spoiler
Yeah, the fact she knew he'd come & nurtured that part of her soul means something. At this state Solas is weaker then her, he awoke from 1000 years of sleep and he can't proceed with his plans unless she helps him. I also think she's probably more powerful then he is, she could've resisted but she chose to help (it says "she intends to let him have that power..").
I think it might be bad wording, written by a designer to help with focusing on the feelings and actions of the character.
As said "it's more complicated than that".
As I wrote before, it was so headcanoned for me it became fact, I was pretty certain with all the other clues that this is what happened in that scene.
I'm curious to whether or not there are descriptions in other characters, like in Solas'.
I really want to see the file for myself, to check whether or not this is the real deal or someone's trolling us (it looks like a legit file), I don't have the PC version of the game, can someone find this file?
I'm still on Team Optimism.
Spoiler
Team Optimism. Flemythal let Solas take her power. She is willing to sacrifice her power to him...it shows how deep their friendship goes. I wonder if she even agrees with bringing the gods back...even if she didn't, still the fact remains she let him take her power. If that doesn't say something, I don't know what else could. She could have fought him off easily since she is much more powerful than he is, and she didn't.
She may not be completely gone, either. Remember the amulet Hawke smuggled? She could have other insurance, but be just as weak as Solas was.
I also think a big revelation is that Solas is trying to save the elven people. There was some doubt that that was really his goal.
In fact... I love this snippet. I want it to be real, as long as it's developed in a way that respects our choices. I have high hopes that Bioware has learned from past experience, both DA and ME, in order to do that.[/spoiler]
Spoiler
I agree: if it is developed in the way that respects our choices - especially when it comes to the romance, I am all for it. There has to be that choice for the Inquisitor that will stand by his side, and the Inquisitor that will stop him.
Solas is ruthless, we saw that with his board game with Bull. He will achieve what he believes to be right, which is short-sighted and prideful. But we also saw, what I believe, is his real personality. He does have a good heart, and feels wretched over his mistakes. He broke it off with Lavellan because he felt like he was taking advantage of her, and not just because of the Anchor, but because of his "god-hood" and the things he must do. It is unhealthy, but good god is it all-consuming; because here we are going: "GIVE ME FEN'HAREL NOW"

This is amazing, thank you so much for making this! You're a treasure!
With commentary from characters in the game suggesting change is coming to Thedas, I wonder how it will play out in the actual story. Must it be that we will automatically try to stop it from happening, to hold on to what we currently have... or will we be able to embrace the change and join in moving things forward? Death and war and destruction would be hard to justify for a lot of PCs, if it comes to that, but it wouldn't necessarily have to mean brimstone and fire, right? If we are given that option, I wonder if it means that a potential "antagonist" Solas will actually be an ally.
Unless it's a case of kill everyone and start over. That would be problematic.

It's a bit of a stretch, I'll admit. The poses of the statues are very different from the poses of the creatures in the mural. Still, I can't shake off the feeling that just by the wolf being on the left and the dragon being on the right for both the statues and the mural, that it serves as a clue that will eventually lead the Inquisitor to the eluvian, and then eventually to Solas. Of course, this is assuming that the creatures depicted in the mural ARE a wolf and a dragon respectively. Bah... So many ways to interpret this.
That seems to be the case, doesn't it? Whether Lavellan decides to or not to actively pursue Solas, she'll end up crossing paths with him. He's far too involved with... everything.
creature on the left is a wolf, the 3D model is named "wolf statue"

I agree...I don't know that Solas' goals (if they are to tear down the veil) are really the worst thing possible for the world. But death and war and destruction already abound in Thedas, and it has for centuries...not to mention the rampant racism and injustice. Tearing down the veil sounds like it would be at the least a way to shake things up, and at the most a possible change for the better. There's just too much awful in the world as it is for my Dalish elf to just stand up and be like, "Naw, this is good. Let's just you know, chill in our caravans and let the other races kill each other in various wars, it's cool."
I can't help it, but "tearing down the veil" just makes me think of The Legend of Korra and how she broke the barrier between the spirit world and the real world. It was kind of rough but in the end, FLOATING SPIRIT BUNNIES. And you know, if it brings back some ancient Elven gods in the process, hey, maybe that will just knock down the humans off their high and mighty pedestal just a bit. It might hurt, but it's not like the humans of Thedas don't deserve it.
I do so wish I could have contributed. Stupid small TV and old-gen console do not make for good screenshots via cellphone. Congratulations on collecting a veritable flood of tears!
We had some not-so-good quality images, I think some were made via phones, so no worries.
Aww,this is so cute!So many adorable Lavellans,a shame that I havent reached this point with Laurelin yet,I'd love to contribute to this.
I'm sure Mr Weekes will appreciate it!
We can go for round 2, if people here are interested. Maybe we will be able to do it till 14th of February and call it 50 wishes for Valentine? But with kisses this time.
