...and right then, I felt the whole world change.
Merry Christmas, fellow Solasmancers. I want to share my favorite Solas pic with ya'll, but I'm not sure how to upload a picture to the site. Do you have to link to an external account, like photobucket or tumblr?
Yeah, you can just use an account to host and then link the image with the Reply Editor
If those dev notes were from way back when the game was in development (if they are genuine), then it is possible that the storyline of the game has also evolved over time... after all Solas and Cullen were not even originally supposed to be romanceable in game.
Because....somewhere in the world....Merrill says it should have been a griffon.
Oh no even Solas says that doesn't he?! Why do the elves love griffons? Related: I just got the conversation with Wynne where she tells the Warden a legend of the Grey Wardens and you can literally ask her about griffons for every dialogue option. Obviously I did
So now I'll do two versions. Though I'm even less adept at griffons than at unicorns.
Well I always thought Solas was a greater good / ruthless type of person. Someone has to make the hard choices... but we also know its the kind of thing that pains him a lot.
It doesnt sound villainous to me until I can prove there was a better choice availible and it was willfully ignored (does that give me a seat on team optimism
I like that it pains him. Not in a "I'm glad you're in pain jerk" kind of way, but I appreciate that he feels bad about making decisions because then it seems like he's not doing it lightly.
I'd 1) just like him to stay at a level of goodness that doesn't have Varric talking about how much he sucks in future games and 2) would really like to see the Veil come down because I imagine that would just be a beautifully animated scene and oh my gosh what if you're like standing in a field with Solas when it happens and the light is all shiny and he just looks so relieved and tired like, "finally, I did it" and then you can ride off into the Fadelight together on your griffons come what may come on BW bring it.
Spoilers on Christmas Eve, oh my.
To be honest, it fell in line with how I viewed those characters, so it wasn't a shock as much as a confirmation.
And for all we know, this spoiler is fake, considering it doesn't fall far from what we already know.
Let me hug my fellow Team Optimism members!
This whole dev thing has me kinda happy. I find it... delightfully grey. The world in the DA universe is pretty bad, I'm thinking whatever might happen will be big, cataclysmic and overwhelming... but still grey. Some will get things better, some will get things worse, places will change but the status quo will likely be the same.
Also, as someone mentioned, I keep thinking of Legend of Korra as well. I doubt we'll see any dragonfly-bunnies but I can dream right?
Gah, as if I wasn't impatient enough already!

+10 Merrill/Solas/Mahariel approves
Has anyone seen this fanart? It was posted elsewhere on the forum, but I can't find it anymore, was in a group. This is exactly how I see Solas and Lavellan, esp when they are reunited.

I love you guys, I would be a nervous wreck if it weren't for you ![]()
And I'm happy we were able to finish the 50 shade before the 25! Patrick will love it and collect all our tears lol

no words can describe how much I I really really love this
That fan art really makes me wonder if we will ever get full body vallaslin, it just looks so stunning!
Edit: Only if we're forced to have vallaslin again as an elf though, otherwise I'd rather have no vallaslin at all...
I really, really want to go looking and see if I can find that spoiler source myself... unfortunately Christmas Eve means lots of cleaning and cooking, so I probably won't have time today.
Happy to have more theory material, though!

I'm on the fence about this. Yeah, he's ever so willing to say he's sorry, and he does sound like he /really is/.... but that doesn't excuse doing a horrible thing in the first place. Is he going to be like 'I'm tearing the world down around you because I decided it sucks and it will probably kill you and everyone you care about... But I'm so sorry!' And I will just want to deck him.

The designer notes do make Solas sound kind of villainous. The phrasing, even if it isn't literal, was meant to give some description to what Solas is like too even if it was mostly about Flemythal. Probably why he looks like such a creep at the end. Maybe it's just his resting creep face. ![]()

He is sorry. It doesn't mean you have to forgive him nor does he expect you to, as far as I can tell. He seems to regret what must be done but still believes that it must be done. The greater good and all that. He has much bigger fish to fry than Lavellan and her feelings, though he cares about those as well.
Based on what I can tell, I do think Solas is going to cause some serious destruction to get to his goal. I'd advise that those who can't deal with his character for that get ready for it now because it definitely looks like we're taking a trip down villain road in one way or another. ![]()

Or it's like coming out of an abusive relationship and three years later truly seeing the man for what he is -- trust me, it's like waking up from a long dream and you don't know what was real and what wasn't.
I'm not sure they're going with these feels or not, but in my mind it's still a possibility.
Not that I'm happy about that. ![]()

Yes if he shows complete disregard for everyone and everything I will consider him truly lost, regardless of whether or not he looks like a kicked puppy while doing it. But I'm still holding out hope that whatever he is doing won't kill Quizzie & co, and isn't even likely to do so. I think if one or all of the Inquisition get in the way he could justify killing them, but not as casual bystanders. Because if he were willing to do that then I think he'd use them and instead he distances himself from them.
Basically, hoping that his goals aren't so far out there that they are objectively wrong on every level, and that it doesn't take ridiculous mental gymnastics to see his side of things.

Sure, I agree he is .... It just doesn't mean much to me. Great, you destroyed the world but you feel really terrible about it. World's still destroyed. I'm not thinking about their relationship, but how what he does will affect everyone else she loves. The Inquisition is her family, in my PT. She's not going to be OK with ruining their lives for the sake of whatever bug Solas has up his butt about what he considers to be The Real People. No matter how badly he feels about it.

Not sure the notes are genuine. But I can find out since i had all the game extracted

I don't think anyone here is alright with that or thinks it's worth it. I was just looking from Solas' point of view.
Edit: Also, I'm never going to believe that he was manipulating the Inquisitor with the romance or to see his point of view. Too much in the canon goes against that and if that really was his intention, he's immensely bad at it. I think if he wanted to manipulate you and the rest of the Inquisition into liking him, he could have done it much more effectively. He's a smart cookie. As it is, nobody in the Inquisition is all that attached to him except for Cole. I don't think knowing their weaknesses will matter much if he has god-level powers anyways. No matter what, they wouldn't stand a chance against him. Only a PC would, because protagonists always win. ![]()
I'm also of a mind that, unfortunately, the romance is going to factor into very, very little in future content. No BioWare romances ever had an enormous effect and Solas' is so limited.

Maybe. Not so sure that he wasn't using the Inquisition - think of all the information he now has on them. It did get him to the orb. It did take care of Corypheus. Even the warden decision, perhaps he favored banishing them because it would make things easier for him in the long run. He may well have had genuine feelings for Lavellan... but the romance also conveniently makes it harder for her to get in his way. We just don't know.

Understood
I didn't mean to imply that anyone would be OK with it.
