Even if this were a joke, I would buy it. Like it's just a single mission and all you do is run around the Hinterlands collecting eggs but every time you pick one up Solas has some random banter lines and at the end if you turn them all in you get armor that lets you dress him up in a hilarious bunny costume.  I need sleep guys and it's only 4:30 pm

I've spent most of this past months playing a game and obsessing over a fictional bald elf. When I wasn't doing that I've been reading and participating in a forum thread dedicated to said fictional bald elf. And this is after the game released. I was never not.

Does anybody else notice **** like this when they're randomly looking around at the view?

 

 

He freaks me out sometimes.. is there something you'd like to say Solas?  Am I holding you up?  Are you not enjoying the view?

I think we've barely scratched the surface when it comes to Solas.  I think what we've been shown of him in game IS actually the truth.  I don't think he's pretending to be something he's not.  I can't see BioWare having him be a LI if he's essentially a lie/fake.  It's a terrible thing to do to the fans.  But I think we've only been shown the best side of him, with tiny glimpses of the darker aspects.  Especially if you don't have high approval with him.  

I can see how he is a trickster.  It does come out some times.  Especially anything with Sera.  He's subtle most of the time, I can't help but giggle though when he gets his digs in.  

Solas has the least content, and I think it's because BioWare has biiiiiig plans for him.  They couldn't give us too much without showing their hand I think.  Plus I think they had to be careful how much they gave us so that we didn't feel lied to or manipulated.  I mean there's already those who feel like he is a liar and was using the Inquisition all along.  Us in the Solas Recovery Wing saw the beauty of his character early on, and dove in with no hesitation.  But those folks who didn't enjoy him as much, or maybe understand him, don't have the luxury of being optimistic like we are.  (Not sure where I am going with this )  I'm stupidly attached to Solas, and not because of the romance, that's just a side benefit.  Even my Human and Qunari Inquisitors are on good terms with him.  He's intriguing.  I like the way he sees the world.  Solas suddenly becoming a villain, or dying, devastates me, because there's so much potential there for so much MORE than that.

I'm with those that think he might not be wrong in what his plans are.  Game and story wise, the idea of something like the Veil coming down, and the impact it would have on Thedas; I want to play that game.  BioWare has created a world and story I get lost in.  (My poor fiance misses me when a new game comes out.  He feels like he's suddenly single lol) I love their characters, even the easily unlikable ones like Viv.  I am ready for things to get messy.  We've dealt with a Blight, we watched a nobody become a Champion, we've built a super power and sealed the Breach.  I am excited at the prospect of doing something that are nothing like any of those things.  Part of me wants Solas to succeed, and not as an antagonist or villain.  I am curious what the world would be like with immortal elves and magical dwarves.  (provided that IS where the series is going)

I kinda rambled on a bit, sorry.  Just had a lot of these thoughts rolling around in my head.

 

I want to like this but I ran out likes.

These spoilers made me throw my likes at people like I would throw my money at a Wolf Hunt DLC.

I think the whole reason he dumped her, if the spoiler is correct, is so that he wouldn't need to kill her later on.  I already had this suspicion, so, if the spoiler's legit, it doesn't surprise me all that much?  I thought either he was avoiding having to hurt her, or protecting her.  Well, technically I suppose it's both.

 

I already kind of thought he'd kill whoever he needed to.  This theory has definitely been floated before.

 

What I think we can take from this, too, is that what he has to do, he wouldn't even want an enemy to have to go through.  He doesn't want anyone getting in his way, and he doesn't want anyone else getting their hands dirty doing it.

 

He may also be distancing himself so that he will be able to fight her when the time comes, if he has to.

 

There may be the possibility of killing him, as well, in which case he would not be the Big Bad, but we don't know who is.  We may get to see him accomplish whatever his goal is (freeing the gods? Dropping the Veil?  Both?) in the process, but only if we are able to actually kill him for doing it.  Otherwise, he survives into the next game and we deal with him officially then.

 

As for the relationship being abusive... I don't really agree?  I don't think that he would have been a romance if that were going to be the case.  If he does end up killing your Inquisitor, imprisoning her, etc., I think that will be due to your own personal choices.  I think it's pretty much inevitable that we're going to meet him again, because he's probably going to need the Anchor's power, and then it will be up to you if you want to trust him or defy him.

 

Those who say feeling sorry doesn't excuse his actions are entirely correct.  And if he's willing to kill the one he loves for the greater good, well, that's a pretty monstrous attitude, but if he genuinely believes he'll make things better, well... one person vs. many?  He'll choose many.  And yet, it's also morally wrong, not just grey, to sacrifice an important part of your humanity no matter what greater good you think you are accomplishing.

 

 

I don't think his goals are morally wrong.  Either they align with what Flemeth is up to, or she believes that what he is doing is actually good.  Much as people have gone on about how evil Flemeth must be, I have yet to see it.  She's repeatedly been helpful during the course of the games she's in.  Perhaps that was simply because her goals and those of our characters' were in alignment, but either way it doesn't make her look like a terrible person.  And so, if he and Flemeth share an ultimate goal of what they are going to do, I don't think his actions lean toward "evil."

 

The problem is how much of his humanity he may be willing to sacrifice to achieve those goals.  If you want to keep your optimism alive, well... remember that his final tarot card only changes if you romanced him.  Lavellan gets the cute fluffy white wolf.

Perhaps it means that Lavellan (romanced) is the one person he could never kill to achieve his goals, or the one who, if he had to kill her, would utterly destroy him?  Just because he's giving up what he wants and cares about for the greater good, doesn't mean that the romance has not affected him in any way, or that he doesn't still love her.  Previously I never thought this could be the case because of how old he is, but could it even be possible she's the only person he's ever truly been in love with?  I mean it's also possible that someone he loved was killed, and that caused him to be the way he is in the first place.  But Lavellan really gets to him, I think.

Actually, given all the burden he's carrying, all the things he's been through and the road he has to go. The fact that he still falling in love with someone itself is no small thing right?

I wrote this stupidly long post in the big spoiler thread and realized it doesn't really relate to the big spoiler.

So I thought I'd share, it's about the Tarot cards Solas gets (The Tower & The Heirophant)

I think that the fact that when romanced it changes to the Heirophant is a way to give those who endured that horribly sad romance a sneak peak to his personality? In a good way. Romaced Lavellan knows Solas the most, she has the best idea of who he is and his motives (still not a lot of idea, but still...), I think it's a way to expand on that knowledge to the player.

 

Also, we should consider the meanings of the cards.

 

The Tower - this one comes to describe the fact that "omg Solas is Fen'Harel' as well as what Solas is trying to achieve. The Tower speaks of (usually disastrous) realization/revelation, when what you think is true is revealed to be false, it also speaks of sudden change. So - the revelation that Solas is Fen'Harel (obviously) and that he has been hiding the truth of his connection to Cory all along, as well as his plan to bring about a big change.

 

Classic Tower (from a deck I own):

 

The Heirophant - this is trickier. This card revolves around religion and beliefs, as well as a cause. He is also known as the Pope. It can also speak of "doing the right things". This card speaks of status quo, it's the exact opposite of the 'change' in the Tower. It's quite bewildering since it's obvious Solas is still up to executing his plans. The question is - does this hint that he changed some of his opinions?

On the other hand it can speak of another aspect of the card, spirituality, mercy/goodness, consciousness, connecting "god" and the people sort of thing. As well as striving for harmony within a community, maybe this comes to explain his final goal? 

 

Classic Heirophant (this is a deck I own):

 

Also, this card has a female counterpart - the High Priestess, I kind of like thinking of Lavellan as her.

 

Please notice that there aren't really bad cards in Tarot, they can be bad in certain context as well as good. There is a Devil card (generally pleasure/indulgence/desire etc.) and Death card (generally endings/big change).
