So I was just playing through the dreaded scene AGAIN. You know how Solas says:

"And I am sorry. I distracted you from your duty. It will never happen again."

I honestly think he is sort of saying that Lavellan distracted him from HIS duty.

Friend of mine is just now done with "here lies the abyss". She sent me a text that says she thinks Blackwall and Solas are up to something.

If you're going to forcibly try to stop him, then sure I'd bet he would fight you- but fighting is never Solas' first choice. I bet he was tempted to try to forcibly take the mark from the Herald when he was in the prison with her, just like Corypheus tried to do. Abelas says the magic is familiar, so certainly Solas recognized it, if not how it got there. But he didn't, or didn't kill her anyway, he tried to save her and take a cautious approach.

Sorry, I know this is supposed to be in the group, but I don't like the groups. It always feels like a walled off enclave versus the open boards.

What if there's no choice but to forcibly try to stop him? It's not like you could side with Corypheus in Inquisition. A better example may be siding with Meredith in DA2. You still had to kill her. It really depends on what Solas is doing, what the cost of it is, who will be affected by that cost, and what the end goal is. And unless he admits to what he's up to and why, it may look to the Inquisitor/next protagonist like he's trying to wreck things and they have no choice.

 

Killing the Inquisitor would get Solas nothing at that point? We have no idea if he can get the Anchor back with the Inquisitor's death or not. If it wouldn't then killing the Inquisitor would not only be stupidly evil, it would just be stupid because then the Anchor is simply gone.

If there's one thing I do believe it's that his feelings are real. They wouldn't be thaaaaat cruel to us.

He's probably happy she cares. I don't think the relationship was faked at all.

Being willing to "kill anyone" to achieve his goal doesn't mean he doesn't care about people. It just means he feels his goal is more important than her or him or their relationship. Or anything, really.

Don't worry...I'm not sure why there's worry that Solas doesn't love the inquisitor. I think it's pretty clear he loves her, and besides, what logical reason would there be for Solas to "trick" Lavellan into falling for him?  He seems pretty focused on his endgame, and doesn't even want the relationship to happen at first. There's no real benefit for him to deceive Lavellan into loving him. I could understand thinking he's faking the love if there was some reason at all that it would help his end goals to have a lovestruck sadface inquisitor hanging around, but man, that makes no sense at all. So basically, rest easy, I'm 100% certain the egghead loves that inquisitor booty.

I believe he's genuinely in love with her. He may not be who he says he is, but I strongly think his love for her is true. Why leave her like that in the end and not use her for his plans, if he didn't care at all?

My feeling has always been he does love her, esp if you hear some of the dialog from Cole...Solas, to me, seems very sad and lonely.  I think in the past he had to do something that was necessary, but at the same time terrible.  I don't think he feels he deserves her or to drag her into his mess anymore than he already has.  I feel he should let her decide that though instead of making the decision for both of them.

Bioware may try to write him as evil in the future, I don't know, but I think that is too easy of an answer and whatever is going on with him is a complicated matter of doing what is necessary, even if in the eyes of others it might be perceived as wrong/evil. What happened with Flemeth seemed consensual to me. Flemeth tells Morrigan she was never in danger of having her body taken because she can't force a spirit into her...I don't think Solas could pull one from Flemeth without her consent. In my scenario though more than just Mythal/Flemeth was passed to Solas and I do worry who is in control of that body now.

I'm like 98% sure he cares! But I also think he might see the practical benefit of being close to her. As others have pointed out, he can be ruthless if it's required. I don't think he decided to get close to her because of that or anything, but I think once he did realise she was in love with him, it might have crossed his mind at some point that it was probably good for his disguise, or if he needed her for something in the future... 

 

I think he dismissed that idea (otherwise he wouldn't have ended the relationship), but I think it must have crossed his mind at some point...
