I AM kind of frustrated that Bioware wasn't more careful with their game files considering that they had a cliff-hanger ending. They should have expected people to dig around in their game files.

Oh come on. usually takes a lot longer than that for modders to datamine a game. We were lucky we got 2 very experienced modders right of the bat. Voider is brilliant and Eham is too. Sometimes I think they are just magic

Is anything they've found really that big of a spoiler? Look at the stuff that leaked in the ME3 beta, or ME2. I always expect there to be ghosts of DLC lingering around for modders to find.

I updated the OP in the other thread with the new information.

I posted a lot of other text from the game files on my Tumblr. Nothing earth shattering though. Still gives me the impression those are very old notes that were there and were forgotten about. Definitely nothing from 2013 after the VA's were chosen

there are 30 GB of files in there. Still a lot to be found. And most of our tools are geared for texture, sound and mesh exploring so we may be missing a lot of text still. The other day I found some weird sound files that no one has seen in game, and posted here. Inquisitor begging for help "Solas something is wrong, help me" like he/she was being attacked/ possessed.

I think you missed a lot about Anders or at least the way you speak about him doesn't do justice to your knowledge of the character.  His top priority was to not kill innocent people, not free mages.

 

If you read his intro by his writer Vengeance + Anders power is staggering. He basically killed an entire platoon of Wardens armed to the the teeth, without breaking a sweat. And regretted ever since. With that kind of power he could have freed the Kirkwall mages at any time so his priority was NOT to free mages. Not at any cost. 

 

Missing that intro, which was not in the game, is not unusual but you also don't seem to have done his mission on Act2 where he almost kills a mage and wants to massacre all templars around. And then he wants to leave Kirkwall and give up because he doesn't want to turn himself into what the templars hate about mages.

That is another proof that freeing mages is NOT his main priority, again it is important but his priority is not to kill innocent people. All through Act 1 and Act 2 this is made very clear. Only on Act 3, when it becomes clear innocents will die regardless of him acting or not is that he THEN decides to act on his SECOND prioriority and does what he needs to do to free mages.

 

Maybe you saw all that as well, I just found it hard to read it on your words trying to insult me

 

You are claiming I have said things I have never said - I never once, in any of my posts, said his priority was to kill innocent people, simply that he stated in the beginning he would kill whoever got in his way of freeing mages - which was uhm, in his short story, which you are trying to tell me I have not read lmao.  You're also claiming I'm baiting you when I have done nothing of the sort, yet here you are outright telling me I have not read his short story, have not done his personal quests. Huh. That's amazing. Next you'll be trying to tell me I haven't played the game at all.

So, now I will, in turn, tell you what you clearly do not understand. You clearly do not understand how oppression works, nor do you understand that Anders was not just trying to free Kirkwall's mages by barging in and breaking them out  - you are referencing a short story in which yeah, he killed a platoon? What's your point? He wanted to attempt peaceful change in the beginning. He wanted people to see mages were people, he was trying to overturn ONE THOUSAND YEARS of systematic oppression. Being able to slaughter a few templars and breaking out Kirkwall's mages would not achieve that!!!! You are also clearly not understanding how power is inevitably reduced from novel/short stories >>> to game. Anders is not capable of that kind of sheer strength in the game itself, otherwise you would only need to play Anders, then wouldn't you? Clearly you would just be able to take control of his character and murder anyone 1v1.

Huh. Okay. Except. You keep bringing up Anders' short story, in which he specifically merged with Justice to help mages. They envisioned a world with no Circles, no templars, and a world where mages were treated like human beings and not taught to fear themselves and their own magic, and where the public recognized magic as a gift of the maker.

Yes, Anders fears the influence Justice/Vengeance has over him and losing himself to that. But, no, his main priority was not to control himself. That was A PRIORITY, but not his main one in the game. After what happened with Ella, he was distraught, and lost focus with the mage rebellion for a time because he was worried about his fraying control. Inevitably, he takes up the mantle of freeing mages again though because this has what has literally driven this man for SEVEN. YEARS. It is what he DEVOTED HIS LIFE TO.

Sorry, but I have never met a single person in this fandom - which I have been in for years - that has tried to deny that Anders priority was freeing mages, as it makes up a core feature of his character. Controlling Justice/Vengeance was central to him as well, but was not his goal. Nor did I ever say he started with the intentions of freeing mages at any cost. He attempted peaceful change, he wanted to change the public's opinion and get the Grand Cleric to do her job.

 

When you first meet Anders, he is running a free health clinic and helping hundreds of refugees who would otherwise not get help, be turned away, and he is doing all of this as an apostate fugitive. He spends half of his life helping others, all at the potential cost of his own health and safety. He worked for the mage underground for years, risking his life continually to help try to free mages from the circle in a way that they could escape unnoticed. Moving onto his manifesto - the thing he, again, dEVOTED A HUGE PORTION OF HIS TIME IN KIRKWALL TO WRITING. A manifesto about why mages should not be feared. Why mages should be free. A manifesto he tried to use to appeal to city officials, to the grand cleric with, to his friends with. He devoted his entire life to trying to change public opinion of mages and help mages and here you are telling me that wasn't his main goal!! Amazing!! Anders did a lot to help further his cause over seven years of gameplay. and it did nothing. and because of the writing, in my opinion, these things are NOT given the weight they deserve.

I'm sorry but what you are saying fundamentally does not make any sense - Anders goals did not ever change. What changed was the actions he had to take to reach his goals. By Act 3, Anders realized that PEACEFUL CHANGE WAS NOT. AN OPTION. ANY LONGER. So his only option left was to put the templars and mages into a situation where actual reform would be necessary, would be forced.

????? Um NO? Anders already knew going there that Meredith had already called for the Rite of Annulment, he planted the bomb prior to all of this as well! He knew this was an action he was likely going to have to take because, again, for SEVEN YEARS. HE TRIED TO CHANGE THINGS. AND NOTHING WORKED.

Elthina could have done her job, she could have reigned Meredith in, as she was her direct superior, but she didn't!

•     the chantry controls the templars
•     elthina is beloved in kirkwall
•     she was CONTINUALLY viewed as the “voice of reason”
•     literally all she had to do was SAY. ANYTHING. and she didn't.
•     like…. anders even says “talk to elthina once more see if she’s changed her mind pLEASE maybe we can solve this w/o bloodshed” you know and
•     elthina just…. continues….. to let the genocide go on…………….
•     so anders makes this war an “open war.” anders gives the mages a fighting chance.

there is TEXTUAL, IN-GAME EVIDENCE that if elthina had done ANYTHING, SAID A N Y T H I N G, anders wouldn’t have had to blow up the chantry but by that point he knew there was no room for change, no room for compromise.

 

Freeing mages was ALWAYS his first priority. His priority was "not to kill innocent people"??? Why would this be his priority?? He KNOWINGLY puts himself in contact with people daily trying to heal their wounds - you really think he would do all of that if he was so afraid of going off on every single person he meets?! Again, it's TRUE he was trying to control Justice, but he is not an abomination beast who has zero sense of control. He went to Kirkwall, IN THE FIRST PLACE, to free Alrik - A MAGE. He went there, KNOWING HE WOULD BE FORCED TO KILL TEMPLARS TO DO SO. He worked for SEVEN years to try and help mages.

But all right. You got me. I totally don't understand his character : ) : )))) : )))

I could see that being cut content from the siding with the templars quest, when the Inquisitor actually is possessed. But it does seem odd for him/her to call for Solas directly. We shall see! I wish you modder folk luck.

You know why we really need Solas's story to be handled with the Inquisitor? So we can see Varric's reactions to Solas. I will pay extra for every time he facepalms.

Basically, a game file called Corypheus' orb elv_orbmythal suggesting that it was Mythal's orb. There was also another dev note that said that Solas' wisdom spirit friend spoke in the style of ancient elvish before she died.

Well, Dalish know very little in regards to the elven language. I imagine that a phrase like "guide me to my death" and "you must endure" are common enough (either as funeral rites, or other hardships) that they would at least be able to find and use those words. They're relatively simple compared to other elvish spoken by Solas, where there are funny prefixes/suffixes and other unknown words that might muddle the meaning enough to where Lavellan wouldn't understand it.

 

Ancient elven language is subtle and complicated, if the current translations and rituals we see are anything to go by. Look at the DA wiki for various suffixes of the word "su." Just changing what's on the end of the word can alter the meaning and/or intent a lot. While some of it is the developers needing to make the game somewhat racially neutral for interactions and information, there is plenty of known precedent for modern elves not understanding elven stuff.

Oh! What if it's cut content from choosing the Templar quest line? If you die during a certain key point in the quest, there's a slide that comes up that details how your Inquisition turned to evil. What if there was supposed to be a short cutscene before that slide where the Inquisitor does that "help me D:" dialogue, Solas asks what's wrong, then the "nothing, I'm fine :|" dialogue is Envy fully taking over?
