I wonder if we do meet Solas in the fade? I'd be interesting if he was introverted and awkward because he's been in there for so long and away from social interaction that wasn't from a demon/spirit/thing/idk.

Reading through some of the other threads makes me wonder if the current niche popularity Solas has will drop if he is revealed to not be a love interest. What do you think? Will you be less inclined to come here and discuss him if all he'll ever be to you is a good friend? We won't really know how interesting he is as a character until his reveal and future gameplay, so for now all we have to go on is his appearance and speculation. The mystery is alluring; will having turn out to not be so good as wanting?

 

naaah, I will be heartbroken if it turns out Solas isn't Li ... BUT that doesn't mean I'll stop loving him. I feel like most in here will agree that it would hurt but them feels would not change

From what I've seen Vivienne and Dorian will surely NOT be emo. I also think that Solas will be a quiet one not Anders crazy

I think some would still stay. If not for being a Solas fan then to at least be in a civil thread that welcomes any in put as long as thins are civil. I mean just look at the Cullen thread many go there just to get away from the rest of the negativity that sometimes plagues the bsn. I would like this thread to be just as welcoming if anything

I'd like him just as much as I do now if he was unromanceable, I have a thing for platonic relationships.

I've been wondering lately if it's possible for a mage to tank in DA:I (like an Arcane Warrior could).  Because I don't consider Dorian off the table as a LI option (I've been warming up more to the idea lately), but I'm not removing Solas (and Cole) from my preferred party and...well, that's a really mage heavy party, even for me.  I like to keep things balanced and I'm also concerned the new special class skills are going to make it annoying if I don't run with a proper warrior.  

 

Even if I luck out and Solas is a bi LI, I'm still curious if I could get away with a party setup like that.

If he's not a LI, that would not drop my interest. My absolute favorite companion who never left my side in any playthrough of DA2 was Varric, and he was unromanceable.

 

So, no, bangability does not factor into my appreciation of a character.

No I won't quit coming here if he isn't an LI. I'll be heart broken but I will get over it....eventually!

I don't know that I'd lose interest in Solas if they told us he's not an LI, but I'd probably be less excited.  Even if that's the case I'll still post in the thread and toss up doodles when I can   He's going to be a neat character no matter what and I'd still be able to hope for an awesome bromance or inseparable friendship.

Varric has Bianca, and they said their story is not done yet, Blackwall is not at your typical LI's age and he may go to his calling soon, Cullen is an NPC. Solas is very likely to be the straight elf option for the game.

I think he's attractive, but we've never known enough about him for me to become invested in the idea that he may be a LI. I just like him for his contrast to the other characters. I have to say though, not having information for so long has cemented him fairly firmly in my friendzone, so it doesn't matter to me at all if he isn't a LI.

I definitely want him as a LI but it won't be too bad if he isn't. After all, I've never firmly had it in my head that he was going to be romanceable even from the beginning. Plus, there's still a chance that he'll turn out to be a character I'm not interested in as a romance (even if I'd love the character). And like DragonRacer up there, all of my favorite characters in the game have been the ones that weren't LIs. A good friendship arc can be as rewarding as a good romance arc. If not even more so!

I won't lie, I'll be disappointed if he isn't an LI, but it's really not the end of the world. I think he'll be an interesting companion either way! Add to that that I feel like this thread is one of the most positive and fun threads here on the Bioware forums, that I can't see myself leaving it even if he isn't.

 

I seriously can't wait to get more information on him next week though!

Even if Solas isn't an LI, (though I'm thinking with the Dorian reveal there's a decent chance he may be available as a non s/s option) I'll still come around!  I'm sure there will still be plenty to say about him - assuming he's the sweet, nerdy, introverted nomad with a spicy side so many of us assume he is.  Unless I really can't stand his character for some reason, but I really don't see why that would be the case - I think so far Sebastian was the only DA companion i didn't like...  

 

My interest in a character doesn't stop just because I can't romance them.  In fact, Cole is one of the companions I'm most excited about meeting in the game! 

 

Also, I come to this thread because I like it in here.  Things can get pretty heavy in some of the other threads, and while I love a good debate, sometimes it's good to just have a friendly chat with nice people 

 

... by the way, am I the only one who's excited that Solas isn't a necromancer because they totally were going to be one? Just, you know, wondering...

Stay sunny folks! We really learned a lot about Solas in an interview that was about Dorian!

 

- Dorian is gay, which makes it more likely that Solas is straight or bi. I'm inclined to think this increases Solas's chances of being an LI - Cullen for Femquisitors at least is a given, but in terms of male companions potentially available to Femquisitor: Varric. Iron Bull. Blackwall. Solas. From the list I think Solas is pretty likely

 

- Dorian uses spells involving control of the dead so he's most likely our necromancer. That puts to rest all of the necromancer-based speculating we did about Solas in the old Solas thread! It also makes it more likely that Solas is a Rift Mage, which from the name is probably a Fade-based specialization (Fade rifts). Makes perfect sense, given that he's a Fade expert. I like the idea of a Rift Mage Solas, Rift Mage sounds really interesting from a lore and plot perspective

 

- Dorian is written by David Gaider, meaning it is less likely that Solas is also written by David

 

- Dorian is the "certain unnamed Inquisition mage" whom Vivienne sometimes has explosive reactions with, not Solas

 

Well, rift mage evidently involves summoning spirits/demons from the Fade.  If you watched closely, the E3 Female Qunari Mage Inquisitor appeared to be a rift mage--she summoned some kind of spirit or demon briefly to help her fight.  If Solas is a loner and a Fade expert, perhaps he became a rift mage because that's the only kind of friend he had available?

 

Imo it also rules out on Solas being the "Judas" too since I don't see rift mage being too evil

 

As I mentioned above, it's possible that rift mages could summon demons.  Necromancy and blood magic are terrible things, but I don't think anyone would argue good guys summon demons...

 

Man, I'm 0 for 2 with these male LI's, I hope Solas is the bisexual male LI so bad :< otherwise my inquisitors will be lesbians, straight men, or forever alone.

 

And I'm right there with you.  If Cullen ends up really remarkable, I might romance him anyway.  He's not unattractive.  I just don't care for his loathing of mages.  And Iron Bull--I don't find him attractive, though that wouldn't be an issue as much as his described Alpha Male personality.  I'll keep him around for humor and bromance but I don't expect to romance him.  So that pretty much leaves me with Solas, unless the devs decided to make Varric and/or Blackwall available.  Blackwall seems like a decent guy.  Physically I don't find him attractive, mostly because I'm not into huge bushy beards and big bellies.  And I would surely play a dwarf for Varric, but I think he's still going to be hung up on Bianca--I'd feel bad if I did manage to romance him.  Again... that leaves Solas or no one.  Bromance for the win?

I'd be a bit disappointed, but it's nothing I don't already expect.  I've already ruled him out as an LI.  Iron Bull is the bisexual male.  Period.  Full stop.  End.  Race gating could possibly give us one extra male and one extra female bisexual character, but I don't count on it.  This way if he's available I'll be pleasantly surprised, much like Garrus.

Though it does seem like there are a decent amount of characters with good moral standing or are just morally grey in DA:I. I would welcome a plot in which Solas is the character that develops opposite ideals as Cole and snaps..as long as it is done right. I'd rather see Cole as a loyal asset to the Inquisition and as a morally good or grey character only because it's much easier to get along with those types of characters.

btw Am I the only one who sometimes spells gray "grey." It just looks like an awesome way of spelling it

And, yeah, I'd stick around here even if Solas wasn't a love interest. (So long as his personality isn't one I do not agree with.) You're all a really nice bunch and I kinda like it here, it's cosy. Though I do occasionally run around to other threads, I wouldn't deny the fact that I see this as home base.

I think he'll be a very exciting character as well! I do like the sassy and confident ones, they do make banter quite interesting. And now we know he's the one Vivienne does not agree with... hmmm.... but that's a topic of discussion I should bring to the Dorian thread. ^THIS. Right now, knowing nothing about him is part of the fun! Though I'm pretty ready for something solid instead of speculation. I like Solas's unique look, and I like elves, so...definitely hoping he's available and has a personality that I find appealing and not, like, stab-worthy. If it doesn't work out, I'll just roll a lady Qunquisitor and break some furniture romancing the Iron Bull (hopefully, anyway, because Freddie Prinze, Jr.'s VA video was freaking adorable...SOLD). And I've always liked Cullen, so I'm happy to have him as a definite option.

 

Mostly I just like it in here.  I love having a friendly place I can come chill and talk DA with people who are just as excited about the game as I am. So...I'll keep coming back. And if Solas is intolerable we'll just have to collectively found a different thread to hang out and have fun in (something like the "Sparkles the Bog Unicorn Discussion and Appreciation Thread," perhaps).
