Sera is... remarkably closed-minded for someone who claims to be some kind of champion for the downtrodden and personal freedoms.  She really isn't so different from the nobles she hates in that she's unwilling to look beyond and understand anything outside what she's used to.  It's also really hard to like her when playing as an elf- she takes internalized racism to a whole new level.  Similar to Vivienne, I'm liking her more while playing as a human.

Yeah, I mean I like Sera as a character, she's very well written, but it's hard for my Lavellan to stay friendly with her. My rogue Trevelyan gets along with her great, but goodness. I wish we could bring Sera up to our level a bit, maybe challenge her views or make her see the bigger picture, if only it's a small piece of that.

Solas is fine with siding with the templars, so long as you conscript them. But even if you don't, Solas is fairly easy to earn approval with if you ask questions. 

 

I am always torn between the mage/templar quests. The storyline for the mage is amazing, but the introduction of Cole makes more sense in the templar path. Alaas.

I like the mage path. Dorian is my bro! Nhyme is totally his fruit fly (A new term I learned XD ). They are best friends. Even if I couldn't trigger his supposed conversation that gives his opinion on my wonderful romance.... Headcannon says she wasn't on the balcony alone end game. Dorian stayed awhile and then brought a bottle of wine up to get her drunk and entertain her to keep her mind off missing Solas.

Solas is fine with siding with the templars, so long as you conscript them. But even if you don't, Solas is fairly easy to earn approval with if you ask questions.

I still haven't done the Templar path! I just haven't made a character that would side with them! I need to get my Gawaina Cadash to choose them, but she's going to hate Solas and I don't want to hate Solas yes this is really eating me up!

Alas, as we say our goodbyes to Middle-Earth (from the big screen at least, I'm sure they'll milk out more video games) we can look forward to future entertainment from the Dragon Age franchise (hopefully our Solas DLC).

I am looking forward to not only having my Lavellan see Solas again, but all our companions too
...hopefully they're not too upset...

My husband got his own copy of DAI for Christmas - just looked over my shoulder and saw him creating a female elf mage.

The highlight of tonight's holiday gathering was having two cousins and one of my aunts talking about how Solas broke their heart.

So I was re-watching the last scene with Solas in freecamera mode, and it's amazing how many cues there are that aren't seen in the standard mode. Like he's holding her hands constantly, then grabbing her arms and pulling her closer, AND, right after he pulls away from the kiss, you can see him clenching his hands and just standing stiff and nervous, like it's really hard to constrain himself.

I think they did a really good job at portraying how he feels, and if anything, the guy really likes Lavellan. He's so passionate and warm about her, everything in his body language yells that. It really shows it was just as painful for him to let her go. IMO, I think he still cares deeply, he just doesn't want to drag her into his mess.

On Sera, I actually found it pretty easy to get along with her as Lavellan after getting through the first meeting since "elfy" things didn't come up too often. Even after the Temple of Mythal when I took the "there might be truth to it" option with Sera and she got miffed and called me stupid I made a joke about hearing that pretty often and gained approval with her. The conversation pretty much ended with "believe what you want as long as we stop Coryphemus." I also wasn't that offended when she brought up the vallaslin removal. Yeah,, it was really shitty to demean the culture someone came from, but my Lavellan was pretty ambivalent about Dalish culture anyways. What Sera said was actually more like "the Dalish are stupid but since you removed them when you found out the truth you aren't stupid." It was insensitive (Sera is insensitive) but it felt like she was giving Lavellan a backhanded compliment. On the matter of Sera being a racist...I don't really hold that against her considering that Solas is racist (though it often comes off more as an ancient culture elitist since he doesn't seem racist against ancient dwarfs based on how he talks to them). Whenever I bring up "us" around Sera meaning elves she'll say that "us" implies being against "them" (not elves) and she likes "them." I do think she is a little racist, but to me she appears to have a bigger issue with the divide that identifying strongly with a race can cause

I'm currently playing a human and just met Solas.  All I wanted to do was take my staff, stick it in his beautiful face and go "HEY, you aint foolin' me MISTER." Then walk away in a kerfuffle (and kick something too). :|

I also don't want to feel hypocritical in how I view people's qualities. I am not so sure that Solas would feel comfortable being with someone of Andrastian faith.

 

And I do wonder why they decided to let only female elves flirt with Solas. Did they run out of time? They included flirts with Cullen and he was also a late addition. Maybe they just didn't want to let people down too hard by allowing them to flirt with such and awesome bald elf that would just break their hearts later. Oh wait.

Poor Lady Cadash gets shown the world of dreams for the first time ever in what would be a highly romantic scene...only to get shut down. Solas then wakes up the following morning with a Halla head next to him to remind him not to mess with the Carta.

Also, am I the only one who was saddened that Sera didn't make a "Does the carpet match the drapes?" joke towards a Lavellan who romanced Solas?

Well, BioWare does have a tradition of giving straight women romances that will cheat, lie, die, betray, love their long-lost wife/lover better, etc.  What's one more to the list?  (Yes, I'm bitter.)

 

That said, Solas is only into women because he's straight, I'd imagine.

 

The elf thing probably has to do with his desire to give a gift that is purely elven and that is lasting--vallaslin made sense.  Even if he doesn't strictly identify as elven, at least not modern elven, there are things about elves that only elves understand.  While yes, he does seem to be a bit racist or elitist in that regard (and he is always happy to be proven wrong about his negative opinions), it does make sense that he wants a truly elven relationship.  I mean, he is an elven god, after all. I think given enough time, he might be a bit more open-minded about other races, but whatever the case, he'd still be straight.

The difference between Solas and Sera is that Solas wouldn't even enter a relationship with a non-elf character.  Solas is also very uncomfortable with the elven pantheon because he does not view himself or the other Creators as gods, but he does not dump Lavellan because of her faith.  Would he enter a relationship with an Andrastian elf?  I don't know.  Sera does enter a relationship with a Dalish, however, and adds the condition to their relationship that she give up her own religion and culture.  Which is worse is I guess a matter of opinion, but I believe that expecting someone to give up their culture and religion to be with you is very wrong.

Some people who have looked closely at his head/textures say he's got a bit of fuzz like he probably shaves it.  I haven't ever noticed that.

 

He does, however, have a bit of fuzz on his face.  Someone posted his face texture.  It's probably not quite stubble, but akin to it?  And here I had thought he had a smooth face until then.  Or maybe he could grow a beard, if he wanted.  Who knows?

Based on his conversations with Cassandra, Andrastianism doesn't seem to bother Solas that much. Or at least belief in the Maker doesn't. Clearly he has some issue with the Chantry's treatment of certain groups but Solas doesn't appear to have a solid faith. As he says, he's always open to new ideas.

 

I really do think that others couldn't flirt with Solas because they ran out of time. I'm of a mind that Solas really was the very last option they thought to put in and they started on Cullen's sooner. Based on comparing the amount of scenes and interactivity. I would have loved to see that though! I wonder how he'd shut them down.

I don't think Solas would be put off by someone specifically because they were Andrastian. He seems very excepting of other religions, I'd say it's worshipping the Elvhen pantheon that he gets put off a bit by. Obviously not enough to stay away though!

Yeah, I really think every race and gender should've been allowed to flirt with everyone that can be flirted with. I mean, just because you're only interested in elves doesn't mean I'm not interested in you! A scene were Solas explains he's not interested would've been so mortifying, but in the "I want to see it" way!!!!
I also would of liked to flirt with Varric, but alas, now I'm being needy!

I wish that Varric were a romance option gated for dwarven females (dwarf girls need more love!).  I'd make a dwarven female for that.  He needs to get over Bianca, ASAP.
