As for the well of sorrows choice, when Solas said there was no way he was going to drink, I took that as a subtle hint that he thought it a really bad idea I should drink even though he thought someone should.    That really only left Morrigan as an option.     I was a bit miffed about this, particularly when back at Skyhold Morrian is going on about how she can understand all these ancient elven writings now and my poor Lavellan was thinking "that could have been me".    I couldn't even ask Solas why he had been against it, not that I suppose he would have told me.     Mind you when Flemeth turned up and Morrigan discovered she is to serve her, I started to feel a bit better about the whole thing.

There seems a lot of odd little problems with the game: glitches, bugs and now scripting errors - it is a real shame because I think the game is brilliant but it is really frustrating when you get a long way in, only to discover the reason something hasn't happened is because of some fault that she have been picked up before release.   I'm wondering how long it will be before everything is sorted out so you get the game as the writers intended.

Hilariously, when my well-drinker mage finally DID meet Mythal she got more than little bit fangirly about it. "Oh! Finally! It's SO nice to meet you!"

I've just been watching the friendzoning scene in the Fade, and I've just realized: Solas makes the first step in their romance. When she places an emphasis on "feel", he bares his entire heart to her. Right away. So she kisses him, yes, but first, he clearly says he loves her.

My Lavellan never made it to a point where she was friends with Sera. I just can't understand how you can consider her your characte's friend, but except her to act differently I that situation.
It was certainly rude, crass, and salt on the wound but I think intent does matter. Sera has no thoughts to mouth filter, she says what's on her mind. It's her character, she's just not sensitive to situations like that.

I make friends with her but don't really associate with her much or use her in my group- just make friends enough to keep her from leaving the Inquisition.

I find Sera to be very hypocritical. With Solas he claims that the modern elves are "not his people" yet every time you do something that benefits the City Elves or Dalish you gain approval from him. Sera despises her fellow elves.. and who are the little people --- well lets see with the exception of the the stablemaster and head cook at Skyhold,,, every servant is an elf... All the servants you see at the Winter Palace are elves.. in fact about 80% of the servant/slave/general laborer class you see in DAO, DAII, and DAI are elves.. Helping those people gets you disapproval from Sera because they've got pointy ears, in fact about the only time you get approval from Sera for helping the little people is when you help the 20% of them that aren't elves..

That hypocrisy drives me nuts .. the excuse of its how she was raised also drives me batty.. she is an adult.. and while her childhood shapes her she should own her own faults .. and doesn't. In fact she is the direct opposite of Solas who blames himself for things that were not his fault

Spoiler

While she is an interesting character her attitudes towards pretty much everything she disagrees with drives me nuts. She is not even willing to try and see things from another perspective. Solas is not perfect, he is a bit racist and elitist and idealist but he at least is willing to try and understand why Sera isn;t "Elfy" and why Blackwall admires the Grey Wardens, and why Iron Bull follows the Qun even if he does not like their perspectives he does listen. Sera just goes all "nananana booobooo" on you sticking her fingers in her ears like a 2 year old.

I finally managed to get Solas' personal quest. Very moving. He also just said he deeply respects me (human Inquisitor). It's nice to feel appreciated by the companions. Solas is a very interesting fellow.

I've already shared this thought on twitter, but I'll share it here as well.

I've noticed that romancing Solas, has a lot in common with how some of "The Companions" got involved with "The Doctor" (Doctor Who).
Also the more I think about the comparison between Solas and "The Doctor", the more similarities I see. :)

Solas uses human male skeleton and mesh

Really?  But what about those naked screenshots?  He definitely didn't look human there.

EDIT:  I understand now.  The elves use "squished" human meshes.

I noticed that a couple people said they received the Inquisition art book for Christmas, so I'm gonna derail the topic for a second (sorry!) to quickly ask if the art book has the illustrations from the tarot cards? A friend gave me a gift card, which I'm contemplating using towards the book.

I saw a couple people mention their families didn't really understand their gaming. No one in my immediate family plays (or cares) about games, but I guess I'm fortunate because I work where there are lots of people who game, and my bff is as addicted to this game as I am, so I do have IRL people I can obsess to. LOL This is really the only place I can talk about Solas in detail, though, because my friend hasn't done his romance so doesn't understand the feels. I'm trying to talk her into it, but she's done the Dorian romance and is now doing Cullen's.

(to BlueElf2) I got one and I seem to recall that they do. The book is well over several pages so I haven't been reading much of it yet.

Solas usually doesn't like if you execute someone -- I think the only one he approves of or doesn't disapprove of is the guy from Adamant. I suspect he also does not like that you're executing her before hearing her case, in a public setting.

Never mind that in banter with Viv he basically says that he believes that he would be a good person to be judge/jury/executioner for any mages that strayed from the path were there no Circles. Or maybe he just meant he'd lock away all the wrong-doers? Who knows. Sometimes he's a bit of a hypocrite.

Solas approves of the Inquisitor giving Florienne the "that is why you fail" speech. He disapproves of outright killing, but approves of finding out people's motivations and then pointing out how your smarter than them.

The guy has just as big of an ego as Vivienne or Dorian, he's just a lot more subtle about it. If Dorian is Tony Stark, then Solas is Reed Richards.

Hrmm after watching the first romance scene again and again...

Maybe Solas said the truth that he never saw magic like this? The anchor I mean... What if the anchor was created by Coryphilis and he needed just the foci to make it stronger? But it did not come from the foci?

Maybe he really didn't know about Cory creating the breach with the help of his foci before Ugly appeared at Heaven?

Another thing: Solas disapproves when you say "if it safes the people then he can have me" in the Heaven chantry after the dragon appears...

Im wondering why exactly he has a problem with Lavellan sacrificing herself? Isnt he the rolemodel for self sacrifice for the greater good?

Ahhh I'm sure I'm to late again and someone before brought this up. XD

 Coryphilis

I would like to take a moment to point out that Coryphilis sounds like it would be the name of a Sexually Transmitted Disease.

We now return you to our regularly scheduled Solas posting.

Ahhh hrm, yeah you know the blight... It is a disease, is it not?

Maybe they should have told us in this "Sexuality in Thedas" codex? Maybe this is the reason Solas only touches Lavellan in the fade?

Now this brings safer sex to a whole new level.

I wondered that myself the first time around. Ended up concluding that he probably thinks it's a naive and ill-considered thing to say, since at that point the Inquisitor hasn't asked "what does the Elder One plan to do if he catches me", "is there some way we can all get out of this alive", or even "if we have to sacrifice someone, is it really best for the Inquisition to lose me".

And in fact, what Solas knows that the Inquisitor doesn't is that Coryphifish wants them so he can attempt to take back the Anchor and use its power to finish his plan. So surrendering themselves would essentially be handing Cory the entire world (we don't know yet at this point that he can't get the Anchor back) for the short-term survival of just a few people.

Abelas immediatly recognizes the mark. He says: "you bear the mark of magic which is... familiar". I think Solas would know what it is and how it got there. (I may have played through the prologue too many times... "I don't know what that is, or how it got there!"... I have no life lol)

About the sacrifice, I was wondering why he would disapprove, too. Maybe he believes it would be a useless sacrifice, because it wouldn't solve anything if Coryphsomething survived. Plus he can't recover the orb without her help.

He's lying about having never seen magic like it before. Abelas recognizes the feel of the magic, if not exactly what it is, there's no way Solas doesn't.

He probably disapproves because the Inquisitor has the Anchor.

Whats even more annoying is if they are wearing Mythal's Vaslallin .. that is a major case of uhhhhh,,, derp since whether your Lavellan was a hunter, warrior, or Keepers First, they would have chosen a specific Vaslallin on reaching adulthood.

My mage wore Mythal's vallaslin >_>

I felt really stupid at the Temple of Mythal.

I felt like I'd get "Solas Slightly Disapproves" every time I asked a question.

I like to think that he disapproves because of LURRRRVE. I think that the real reason he breaks up with the inquisitor is because he thinks it will keep her safe and alive. He's probably wrong because come on, we all know our Lavellans can kick ass and protect themselves, but I think he's doing it because he's, as he says to Cole, on a path he wouldn't wish on his worst enemy. So when the inquisitor says she's willing to surrender instead of fight to survive, I think he's hurt, because he wants her to live and survive. If he didn't care about her survival, he probably wouldn't have broken up with her to spare her.
