I enjoy DomSolas, but i don't think he is actually like that. I just like smut. He probably likes to worship whoever he is making love to. And likes to tease and be teased. But him being a feral wolf is probably something he did when he was young. Maybe he'll bring out the bondage on his birthday though.

The issue is a matter of comprehension. Maybe they're just skimming the OP because it has a lot of words, so they're missing the point. Or they made an assumption that it's just a complaint thread on the content of the romance. Most of those in conflict seem to not understand the nature of the complaint. If someone feels that Cass's romance doesn't have enough depth, and didn't do it for them; ok that's fine, but that wasn't the thread for it.
Others only hear what they want to hear, and are going to keep arguing with you that Male protags get "bad romances too". /WOOSH
I will say that artistic integrity does matter. And I would NEVER want BioWare to pander to us. But there is a pattern of unavoidable endings to quite a few female protagonist romances. They're just not seeing that the issue is with the fact that these situations are not something you can make choices to avoid within the game. Cassandra becomes Divine, she breaks up with you. To avoid it you don't make her Divine. Alistair is kind of a similar situation, but I am with Brass that he falls into the same column as Solas, Thane, Jacob etc. There's so many hoops to jump through to set it up in such a way that you still get a consolation prize of being his mistress or running off into the sunset together as Wardens. But uh oh, your choices can get him killed in DAI. So much for that ....
I will say that one person did have a point with Morrigan. You don't finally get your potential Happily-Ever-After with her until DAI. That is 5 years later. Those folks waited a long time for their resolution. The point though, is that they did finally get it. Solas is still up in the air. It still stands that Jacob cheats on you, Thane dies (yes we knew that going in, and pursued it anyways. not the point). Those games are finished, there's no way to make a choice to change it. It does feel one sided. What Male protagonist has had it even once, other than Morrigan? (I honestly can't think of anyone else atm)
I don't mind people disagreeing with it. Different viewpoints and all that. It just would be nice if the discussion wasn't getting derailed by people thinking that it's just bitching and moaning that we "don't like our romances".
There are two banters with Cole that do allude to Solas wanting to help some group that's trapped and he wronged. One says that he did it to save them and he can just let go (but he won't) the other is the post-break up banter about them "hiding, hurting."
So there's evidence for whichever theory makes you happiest.

On the topic of the Heartbreak thread- all of my years on the internet have taught me that it is much better to simply not engage. It's a waste of your time and energy, and only rarely do you actually change the other's opinion. I suppose there is something to be said for those reading the debate, but the emotional cost on me is too high to bother. Maybe I'm selfish.

Now this is just even more materials for the theory that before recorded Thedas history, both dwarves and elves had magic though of different kinds as well as the theory that the Blight existed well before the Tevinter magisters went into the Fade.
Well, I don't mind the Treavalyan/Solas part, but...I've gotten to the point where I don't like dom!Solas period. Especially when he's written so that he aggressively has sex with someone without care, so that fic isn't really for me...It makes me really uncomfortable not just because of dominance/submission, but because people that write dom!Solas tend to write him as some kind of beast.
Yeeeep. I really hate the trend of making Solas sexually aggressive. Or aggressive at all, really. It's so horribly OOC. And it would be fine if it just wasn't everywhere. Why write Solas fic if you aren't actually going to write Solas?
Between people in bring-warden-back-in-dlc-kthxbye-you-horrible-people thread that I just feel are completely defensive and intolerant to people in please-no-more-straight-female-romances-that-leave-a-bad-taste thread that is overwhelmed by people who don't get what we are trying to say, I can now say I'm scared of leaving this thread.
You guys are so tolerant and polite, even when disagreements pop up.

There actually aren't really trolls there. Just people who seem to be missing the point and are arguing that because they like tragedy, the opinion that there should be no tragic romances is a bad one. Which is neither here nor there with the thread's message but oh well.

That's the kicker though. No one is saying no more tragic romances. It's a discussion requesting that the tragedy with NO CHOICE in the outcome, to not be limited to only the female protagonists if they're going to be in the games. That's what is frustrating (as a person reading it, and not engaging) is that the arguments are over points that was not being made in the first place. Brass went into great detail to back her stance up, and they all just latched onto "I don't want tragedy!" She was never saying that.

I seriously do not mind tragic romances. I just agree that there have been an awful lot of them for females and hey, it'd be nice if it wasn't always an inevitable no-choice event every other romance. Situations like Anders or Solas, well, yes. That's a given due to the story, it had to happen and I really am fine with it. We don't know what will happen with Solas in the future, so until we do I'm content to wait and see what we are given. Even Thane I was fine with, because it was that whole tragically beautiful thing. A lot of people were dying as it is, it was the end of the world and we knew his time was short to start with. It really might have been handled better in the end, but that prayer is one of the finest memories and moments in my gaming history. I bawled.
I'm just beyond annoyed that the thread threatens to become a schoolyard "no fair" match - when that was not what its intent was. The real message will get lost under crap. We'll be lucky if it doesn't get locked. Because how dare someone speak up? I don't even know.
