Anyone have any recs for good fic that isn't dom!Solas? Nondom Solas 4 life. 

I'd also appreciate recs. Searching for fic has become kind of scary.

I seriously do not mind tragic romances. I just agree that there have been an awful lot of them for females and hey, it'd be nice if it wasn't always an inevitable no-choice event every other romance. Situations like Anders or Solas, well, yes. That's a given due to the story, it had to happen and I really am fine with it. We don't know what will happen with Solas in the future, so until we do I'm content to wait and see what we are given. Even Thane I was fine with, because it was that whole tragically beautiful thing. A lot of people were dying as it is, it was the end of the world and we knew his time was short to start with. It really might have been handled better in the end, but that prayer is one of the finest memories and moments in my gaming history. I bawled.

 

I'm just beyond annoyed that the thread threatens to become a schoolyard "no fair" match - when that was not what its intent was. The real message will get lost under crap. We'll be lucky if it doesn't get locked. Because how dare someone speak up? I don't even know.

Until it was brought up, I had never really noticed that we had so many romances like that.  It's not that I am fine with it.  It's just not a big issue for me personally.  But I understand where they're all coming from.  And I do somewhat agree.  It's just not something I am invested in pursuing aside from offering support by posting in places where I know the discussion is going to stay on topic, and not turn into flame wars.  Basically this thread.

If it really was something BioWare wasn't even aware they were doing, and they decide to be a bit more fair in the future... well hey I win anyways because that means less heartbreak for me!  And then my fellow fans that really have a problem with it get what they want, so that's another win because my comrades are happier.

Mentioned it before, but the integrity of the story does matter.  It is unrealistic to think that no one will ever die.  Thane was heart breaking.  I don't think they handled or executed his death very well.  But I was ultimately fine with it once I stopped sobbing.  

Just hate that things are getting twisted (in that thread).  Mentioning Thane's death and the other unavoidable situations isn't saying that you don't want those things happening.  It's just pointing out that it very often happens to the female protag's LI.

I just think the writers intention is always going to be drama, end of story. What is the most emotional, the most personal, the most challenging, and in a game with romances it inevitably stands to reason some of that romance will be heartbreaking, tragic, emotional...think of all the great love stories. How many of them have heartbreak? Death? Despair? Tragedy? Romeo and Juliet. Rhett and Scarlett. I could go on.

I dont really think that the writers are sitting in a room wringing their hands together in joy giggling maniacally about all the tragedy just to ****** off the players.

My own was always a bit jealous at how cool and calm his rifts are compared to the chaotic mess that she uses.

On the topic of the Heartbreak thread- all of my years on the internet have taught me that it is much better to simply not engage. It's a waste of your time and energy, and only rarely do you actually change the other's opinion. I suppose there is something to be said for those reading the debate, but the emotional cost on me is too high to bother. Maybe I'm selfish.

Yeah you're right.  Almost every story that impacted me on a deep level was a tragedy in some way.  Part of what makes Solas stand out so much, is the heartbreak in the end.  I don't know if a saccharine live together forever would have meant as much.  I am on Team Optimism, and am being as patient as I can possibly be.  I am along for the ride, and at this point hope for a resolution of some kind.  Given the reveal, and the importance of Solas to the story, I know that a resolution is inevitable.

Drama will always stick with people longer in the end.

I like dominant Solas, but not aggressive Solas, if that makes any sense.  I really haven't read any Solavellan fics just because I'm not into the whole sexually aggressive thing.  I can see Solas focusing on pleasing Lavellan more than I can see him focusing on her satisfying him.  That would be incredibly OOC imo.

In isolation I don't mind the tragic romances, except for Jacob that was just a nasty thing for BW to do, it's the sheer number of straight female romances that don't end well that concerns me.

I really don't see that in the vast majority of the Dom!Solas stuff- it feels like they're ignoring Solas the character in favor of Solas the fantasy. And that's fine, just not for me.

The idea of a man dominating a woman is about as appealing as diapers or sneezes- I understand others enjoy it and am happy they do, but it's a resouding "no" to me. I love passion. I dislike dominance.

 

So yes hahaha. It would be the same as me reading any other Solas fic with fetish I'm not into, ultimately.

I've also skipped fics because they went way out of character, or the smut is "unrealistic." Seriously, a fic that has shitty smutt, no matter how amazing the rest of it is, is a complete turn off.

And everyone has their preferences. I personally have a particular fetish for the m/f!dom, can't usually stand to read f/f stuff because it's too soft in my opinion, a shame really.

That's perhaps where I'm getting confused at.  Dom!Solas, I think of as "setting the pace."  Not in the dom and sub ways.  Not like Iron Bull and the BDSM.

Then that kind I don't mind. If Lavellan wants to kiss him chastely and he wants to pull her back into his arms and bend her over to kiss the daylights out of her I am totally game. However, a lot of dom!Solas is dom and sub BDSM stuff. And that just turns everything from the bellybutton down completely off, if you catch my drift.
