I've also skipped fics because they went way out of character, or the smut is "unrealistic." Seriously, a fic that has shitty smutt, no matter how amazing the rest of it is, is a complete turn off.

And everyone has their preferences. I personally have a particular fetish for the m/f!dom, can't usually stand to read f/f stuff because it's too soft in my opinion, a shame really.

Then that kind I don't mind. If Lavellan wants to kiss him chastely and he wants to pull her back into his arms and bend her over to kiss the daylights out of her I am totally game. However, a lot of dom!Solas is dom and sub BDSM stuff. And that just turns everything from the bellybutton down completely off, if you catch my drift.

I usually just surf the smut, I rarely go into anything below a mature rating, so maybe I'm just used to it. But I haven't really seen a true BDSM Solas.  I think I've seen a spank or two, but they're so out of character I'll drop it.  The aggressive!Solas too. All that biting is a bit weird sometimes.

 

Edit: Unless it's young!Solas, then all bets are off on how he acts.

Maybe Falon'Din is the next bad guy and Solas tries to stop him? Theories say Falon'Din killed Mythal and maybe he tried to kill the rest of the Pantheon. Maybe this is the reason Solas looked the gods away, to protect them from Falon'Din. Maybe Falon'Din was never locked away with the other gods...

In isolation I don't mind the tragic romances, except for Jacob that was just a nasty thing for BW to do, it's the sheer number of straight female romances that don't end well that concerns me.

Man, some of that stuff reminds me of all those Garrus-cutting-up-and-biting-Shepard fanfics that I just really couldn't get into >_>  I understand it's a fantasy, but I don't care for it when it's done to a character that, honestly, wouldn't do those things in the first place.  Solas is confident and passionate so I can see him showing dominance by being the first to take her in his arms and stuff, like he does on the balcony.  To me, that's being "dominant" but not aggressive.  I think some people tend to get those differences confused.

Well, there is a fair point to be made about Sera's romance if you're an elf. As much as I like that there's something to her character that can cause conflict, I understand people being all ?! about it.

I haven't been reading as much Solas fics because I've been reading Garrus fics. I've always thought the "mate marking" bite made sense.

Not true. Leliana left the Warden.  Liara, wouldn't join Shepard in the second story, and honestly I don't think Shepherd's romances count.  That ends in tragedy, no matter the romance. 

Edit: Depending on if you give Isabela to the Qun or not, that can end badly.

And Sera is the only exclusively female romance if I remember correctly, so there's not really a lot to base that one, but that would be ending well at 100%

By "left" do you mean they're temporarily separated thanks to circumstance? Because Leliana said she was looking forward to when she and my lady Warden could be together again in my world state where they were together.

Let's be real here. I have been feeling like i'm being forced to be a lesbian by bioware for a while. Usually I'm DOWN lesbians aggressively wanting me IRL, but something in my head goes "NO I WILL NOT BEND TO YOU, BIOWARE". 

 

I just feel like in Mass Effect you are narrowed down to 2 straight options over the course of the 3 games. One of them is an alien, which of course everyone loves. The other one being the only male human left IF he is alive. 

 

So really, one straight guy who is an alien left. But if I'm a lesbian I got two babes, plus kelly for a little cute semi romance canon.  

 

I SEE WHAT YOU'RE UP TO, BIOWARE! YOU WANT ALL WOMEN TO BE BI. And I mean there have almost always been a female bisexual romance in bioware games, for as long as I can remember. 

 

 

And yes I get that the lesbians were mostly for men who were playing as women, at first. But come on. I guess I'm just a little too rebellious to the point where I reject a lesbian romance just because I know that they were not written for me, but rather for a male playing as a woman. 

 

My main complaint really is that I want to feel like the lesbian options are written by and for women. Not by a guy who wrote a lesbian relationship so that when men roll as women they can still romance a woman.
