What did you lovely people with Cole anyway? Since Solas wants so make him more spirity...

But I cant help myself... This feels so not right?

I always get the feeling Cole wants to grow. Who am I to take this away from him?

So my Trevelyan makes him human, but now with my Lavellan...

She wants to please Solas and he understands Spirits better. Still... :-/

I went more human, but it was a really hard choice.

I didn't see any reason Varric or Solas would really know which was the right answer. Neither seemed to have any previous experience with this sort of thing, and Lavellan certainly didn't. I nearly went spirit, just because that's what Solas wanted, but decided against it. I was playing a very curious Lavellan, who just wanted to see if making a spirit more human was actually possible!

Hmm. That still wouldn't fit with Inquisition's use of the word, though--Minaeve uses it within seconds of first meeting the Inquisitor, and Solas called my Inquisitor(s) that before going to Skyhold (after the musical number).

Lethallin; Lethallan (leth-ah-LEEN; leth-ah-LAHN): Casual reference used for someone with whom one is familiar. Lethallin is used for males, while lethallan is used for females,[27] but this is not always the case. [28] Akin to "cousin" or "clansman" since "lin" is the word for blood. See talk page for more information.

Lin (LEEN): blood.

This is from the Dragon Age Wikia.  It seems likely it's an oversight on the writer's part, or that the phrase is used interchangeably/casually, rather than so formal?

*Edit to add*  Maybe even still, since the masculine form would maybe take the more dominant place of the word, in regards to those in a position of power?

I also made him a spirit. While I do love the idea of him becoming human...from an in-character perspective, there's no way to know if such a thing is truly possible. I think my Inquisitor feels that Cole is safest when he understands who he is and what he is capable of. If there are weaknesses to being a spirit, he should know them. Similarly, Solas's comment that a spirit could forgive anything stuck with her. A [human] is ultimately flawed. Considering how powerful Cole could be, having him succumb to human emotions like rage could also be dangerous.

I still like the human outcome though, and I do think that's the route my dwarf will be taking. Both options are really 'right', its just a matter of what your character would do themselves.

Nope they don't happen if he is Warden Alistair, or King of the Drunks in Kirkwall Alistair-- just if he is King because obviously Warden duties would keep him busy as a Warden and they are supposed to give up lands, titles, any claim to thrones etc. If he is King of the Drunks Alistair obviously he does not have the resources to do this -- though it does give him an excuse to meet Varric and Izzy since they all live in the same inn.

The events in the comics happen to all Alistairs (except dead ones), the details are just different.  Warden Alistair will still mention seeing his father in the Fade, which is referencing the events in the comics.

I wanted the option to ask Cole what he wanted out of his future. Or just not make the decision for him. =/ As it was, I went spirit the first time and will change that in my canon because the post Temple of Mythal scene where he makes himself forget made me uncomfortable. Points to BioWare for making spirits alien but I just... was too bothered by that to leave it in my 'canon.'

The last time this came up here, brass_buckles had a really good post on the pros and cons. It's probably buried forever though.

That scene made me uncomfortable.  I like the think I understood the nature of spirits, but that just reinforced the idea, as you said, that they are "alien." :/

I'm thinking a similar makeup for the same reasons.  Also, Dorian and my Lavellan are good friends too.

The only problem I might have with bringing Cass, though, is that even though she's a romantic and good friends with my Inquisitor-- I'm afraid she might try to kill Solas after her little spat with Varric o.o

I probably will have Cassandra, Cole and Dorian but like you said with Cass....not sure, I'm afraid once my Lavellan see Solas again Cass will kill him before he even opens his mouth to explain what's going on.  :P

And what I did with Cole I turned him into a spirit, I might go for human this time on my rogue inquisitor. It really shocked me when at the end of the game Cole got rid of his name although he says you can still call him that,I want to see what will happen with him being human.

I really wanted to make Bull decide whether or not to save his Chargers.  I was like, Why do I have to choose?!?  YOU CHOOSE.  My choice is: None of the above, I jump off the cliff, take 212 damage but not to my legs apparently b/c I can still run and help them AND EVERYTHING IS FINE.

Thank you for your advice guys :)

I think I'll go with spirity Cole this time.

But Solas comment "you can't change ones nature" struck me as if he had personal experience with this.

Really personal, like he tried to change himself maybe but didn't succeed.

I personally think thats not entirely true... Hrm maybe we learn more in the future about this ^^

EDIT: this isn't my canon PT anyway. That comes when all dlcs are out. ;-)

Anyway I'm listening to Blue Gillespie and now I want to read a fanfic where Lavellan explores the Eluvians adter Corys death and ends up in this really strange world with only shemlen. She walks around and then there ia thia building, she hears strange loud music and someone singing.
And she knows THIS VOICE. She goes inside and sees Solas on a platform performing for a huge mass of shemlen. Then things happen. Then happy end.

XD ahhhhhh bad egg, stop being so addictive...

it could also be referring to his spirit of wisdom friend that he tried to save.  maybe he was afraid that by not letting cole fully accept his nature as a spirit of compassion, it would twist his very essence, too?

By "good" do you mean heartwrenching?  If so, then you are correct it is really really good.  I never felt so many things at seeing Duncan's death then after I read that.  It's also the reason I have to save the mages in Inquisition.

Spoiler

Alright I forgot how to do spoilers... craptastic

*edit figured it out

Yes it is confirmed on the comics.. but alistair sees him before he dies

From an outside perspective...it was just odd. My Lavellan wanted to point out to Varric that he can dance in moonlight and sing to flowers, but it won't make him an elf. And Sera can be an ******* all she wants but she's still an elf. You are who you are. Being more human won't make him human. Just as embracing his self doesn't mean he can't take the best from what he has seen in others and grow from there. But to change one's nature can also be harmful to them, such as the way it is with Sera (from my view). It turns to self loathing when there are things you can't change.

Thanks!

I think I missed the thesis :crying:  It's okay though. I will watch the finished outcome and I am sure I will adore it <3

Dipping my toe in the fanfic pool:

https://www.fanficti.../A-Secret-Chord

Not smutty at all, but rather an exploration both romantic (Solvellan) and academic (elven lore).  One of the things that strikes me about the Solvellan relationship is the lack of balance between the two characters.  In the game, we see Solas' knowledge set is superior in pretty much every aspect; when he seems impressed w/ Lavellan, it often seems in comparison to the Dalish/humans, which we know he sees as inferior in general to ancient elves.  I wanted to give them a moment where he admires her for herself, not just because she exceeded a low expectation.  I also am interested in the transformation of the stories/archetypes of elven gods over time, so I wove in an attempt to reconcile the two versions of Ghilan'nain's ascension to god-hood by creating a transitional version, with the idea that the story would get changed little by little over time, as various bits were added or left out, to suit the tastes of the teller.

With Lavellan I made him more Human. I honestly wish I could have left him how he was and still complete the quest but alas.... I tend to agree more with Varric though: Cole made his decision to be more human a long time ago, and to make him a spirit makes him not-Cole. I think he even stops going by his name (though he says you can call him that if you'd like). He starts erasing his memories and it rubs me the wrong way, especially since my Lavellan considers him to be a "friend". My Trevelyan will probably make him more of a spirit because I don't think she's really his friend persay, and she thinks there's a "right" and "wrong" way for spirits to exist.

I also think Solas is lying through his teeth when Cole says "when did you see it before?" and he's like "I didn't say that I had," and let's Cole think that he was mistaken. I believe 100% that Solas has seen a spirit become more human and is just being a fussy McFuss pants

It may have ended badly. It would explain why he's so against it.

Making Cole human feels more right because we're human but to Solas, there's nothing wrong with being spirit-like. He seems to even prefer them to normal people. It's also important to note that Cole is happy either way and that on both paths we're pushing him to be something that he's not quite become yet. I see too many people act like he was already basically a human to act like the Varric choice is so much better but I think the point is that he's halfway between. It's more down to what we as the player want him to act like. I get a little huffed when I see people act like Solas was so horrible when they make that choice. Not that anyone here does that but I've seen it.

I guess human path might also have the possibility of being more dangerous to Cole down the road as opposed to Spirit path. More chance of corruption? Though we probably won't see anything that huge happen based on the human vs spirit choice.

Edit: In case it wasn't clear, I actually chose human path myself but that's because I like Cole to be my humany little bro.

Also, I've just noticed that I can't post in the Customization forums. Can someone explain what I should do?

I think they were probably both speaking from personal experience. Solas has known a lot of spirits and has likely watched a lot of them turn. I got the impression from his personal quest with the spirit of wisdom, that he had been through that many times, and that's why it hits him so hard. Varric, on the other hand, is probably speaking from his experience with Anders most likely. He seems to think Cole should deal with his anger, or else it will just come out eventually and he won't be prepared for it.
