If it feels wrong to you, the person writing it, then don't write it. Or, you could write it and have it be a dream - a possibility for the Inquisitor to pursue, but she doesn't feel fulfilled by it. She may not want anything else to do with Ancient Elves for a while, especially given the circumstances. So, being friends may help her better heal from it.

Oh it's not her who wants the romance, it's definitely Abelas, and it feels right that he would want it.  The problem is... well.  I'm having trouble expressing precisely the emotion involved, because it's not a crush, it's more a want-to-be-in-love type thing?  Because he's lonely.  But yet he fears that it might really happen.

 

I think a large part of it is the obvious way in which it's written...

 

And I think part of my discomfort is that this is really not a romance fic, even if I initially intended it to be a non-smutty Lavellan+Solas reunion thing.

Ah crap, you're right. Perhaps they were lovers, then? Is it weird that the thought makes me kinda jealous? This reminds me of when I thought Solas was Tyrdda Bright-Axe's "Leaf-eared Lover", and I was glaring at the poor guy all the way through the Hinterlands.

 

I mean, of course Solas has had other loves and other relationships before. I just don't really want to know about it.

I'm with you on that. Tis why I'm glad the ending credits specified that Fen'Harel is Flemythal's oldest friend.

Well Ghilan'nain went from creature-breeding mad scientist to passive champion of Andruil. Since that myth seems to be taking the "Fen'harel, Trickster God" perspective, I don't think we can trust it 100%, even if it comes from Felassan. I mean, think about his other myths. I can't see Solas telling a lovesick young man to kill a king's daughter so he can see his beloved again. And the "Slow Arrow" story seems to be an analogy for Solas's indirect way of solving problems, rather than a retelling of actual events. So what I got out of that myth was that Solas and Andruil may have at one point had a sexual relationship. Solas, and especially young Solas, doesn't strike me as the type to let himself get taken advantage of.

Off topic question for anyone who didn't roll a mage for their first Solasmance (purposely or not).

Did anyone else reroll their Lavellan after hearing Vivienne tell her that "mages need the company of other mages?" I originally created a rogue to be the typical Dalish archer, but for some reason that line really struck a chord me. I know she meant it as platonically as possible, but the idea of it affected me enough that I immediately went nopenopenope, and created a mage Lavellan instead.

I kept myself so spoiler-free about DAI that I knew literally nothing about the companions, the romances, or anything about the story. All I knew about Solas was what was introduced through his dialogue in Haven, but after hearing that line from Vivienne I couldn't get the idea that yes, Solas would be really cool to try and flirt with as a mage, but more importantly he might be willing to share more of his self than with a non-mage who can't explore the Fade as he does. The lonely apostate who could (potentially. no romance knowledge) take my Lavellan on Fade adventures they would remember? Too good of an idea to pass up.

Hmm...I can imagine a younger, angrier Solas telling a noble something like that if they were a deuche noble slave owner or something, but not just out of spite unless he really was a jerk in his youth.

 

I think a more likely interpretation of the tree story is that Andruil wanted a piece of that and Solas excused himself. While I'm fine with him having past lovers I don't really don't want to know who they are...it's just that frigging dead wives trope makes me suspicious of any hint of a past lover. Books, movies, especially interactive games...I hate that trope. And if the story is actually 100% true I don't really see it as Solas being taken advantage of, more like an amused "is she serious?" because there was know way he wasn't getting out of it.

I think non mage Lavellan is just as good. It doesn't matter that she is magical. Let's not forget that she is connected to Solas through her anchor. That is his magic in her hand. That's already very special.

Except Solas apparently only absorbed Flemeth's power, not the essence of godhood. I'm pretty sure that part was put into the Eluvian. If anything we'll be bound to Morrigan since Mythal's essence is supposed to go to her.

 

I really hope there won't be too many kinky fics about it. Solas would hate it if the Well of Sorrows thing actually did lead to her being bound to him because he would have power over her will. And it would bring up consent issues as well which is the thing I really, really, really despise about a lot of Solas fanfiction that's out there. There are already so many painfully OOC fics...ugh.
