oooh, shiny new thread! wow, it got big fast. i love you guys!

 

i would still be here if Solas turned out not to be a LI. as for his personality.. even if it's not agreeable to some, there will always be SOMEone who will like him. i personally can't stand Oghren, but tons of people adore him. the same with a lot of other characters, so i have no worries that Solas will be the same. it could also be that even if people don't like his personality at first, he could grow on them. most of the characters i had to give some time to really get to know them. starting out with an interesting appearance definitely helps (pretty bald head... ) grab attention, but there will always be people here, even if he turns out to be a less than loved character.

I do wonder who is writing Solas now! I do I do! Though the answer to that question I have no clue.

And, yeah, I'd stick around here even if Solas wasn't a love interest. (So long as his personality isn't one I do not agree with.) You're all a really nice bunch and I kinda like it here, it's cosy. Though I do occasionally run around to other threads, I wouldn't deny the fact that I see this as home base.

I think he'll be a very exciting character as well! I do like the sassy and confident ones, they do make banter quite interesting. And now we know he's the one Vivienne does not agree with... hmmm.... but that's a topic of discussion I should bring to the Dorian thread. For now we celebrate that Solas might not be #1 on her sh*t list?

 

I agree on that the people on this thread are so nice and it's good to have some people to chat with without them chewing you out cause they don't agree with you!

I'd be in the same boat if I didn't develop more of a love for Iron Bull over the past couple of weeks! And Cullen's a'ight but I haven't quite fallen in love with him (not to say that I won't). I'd still much rather Solas, though. I'm glad Dorian is gay because my interest in him as a LI took a free-fall lately for reasons I'm not sure about. He still sounds like a pretty awesome guy, though! He and Viv are making it difficult to fight the urge to have an all mage party all the time 

I really like IB too, but I feel like he wont be a LI (at most I think he'll be a fling) plus I tend to like romances less if the LI is promiscuous and not really serious about the relationship (like Isabella or Zevran until the very end).

 

And I'm right there with you.  If Cullen ends up really remarkable, I might romance him anyway.  He's not unattractive.  I just don't care for his loathing of mages.  And Iron Bull--I don't find him attractive, though that wouldn't be an issue as much as his described Alpha Male personality.  I'll keep him around for humor and bromance but I don't expect to romance him.  So that pretty much leaves me with Solas, unless the devs decided to make Varric and/or Blackwall available.  Blackwall seems like a decent guy.  Physically I don't find him attractive, mostly because I'm not into huge bushy beards and big bellies.  And I would surely play a dwarf for Varric, but I think he's still going to be hung up on Bianca--I'd feel bad if I did manage to romance him.  Again... that leaves Solas or no one.  Bromance for the win?

I thought Cullen was cute and intriguing in DA:O but I didn't like him much in DA2 with his "mages aren't people like you and me" thing and he seemed really useless/clueless too (of course that's probably because every DA2 Templar was like that) maybe I'll be surprised, I hope I'm surprised. He's good looking at least. Dorian seems obnoxious as well as looking like a catfish with a Jersey Shore haircut to me so I REALLY hope to be pleasantly surprised by his personality. With my luck the last male romance will be some sexual predator thing with Cole (like femshep with Vega)

Nah, I can't see Cole being available as an LI at all.  And if he is I'm not touching that one with a ten foot pole.  I think he's asexual anyway due to his very nature, so even if he managed to mentally mature by learning more about how to be human over the course of, say, two or three decades, he still wouldn't want to have sexytimes with anyone.

 

Blackwall, as I said, is a decent guy so even though he's not physically attractive to me, I might go for him if he were available.  Varric, almost certainly I'd go for in a playthrough if he were an option.  But I'm with you on Iron Bull--he's promiscuous, unlikely to settle, and then add to that the Alpha Male Won't Take Orders Must Be Boss Man thing... no thanks.  He sounds like the sort of guy who'd want to take charge and treat my Womanquisitors like "little ladies," unable to care for themselves... and I don't go for that.  It's fine for those who do, but it's not my preference.  My lack of interest in Cullen aligns with yours as well.  He's cute, but the anti-mage statements were offputting.  He'd have to have some absolutely stellar character development for me to pursue him, since I mostly play mage or rogue (I'm trying a replay of DAO as a human noble warrior, but I confess I find it a bit boring).

No matter what, I'm going to try to give all the characters a chance. I hated both Morrigan and Sten my first playthroughs but once I got to know them, I loved them both.

If Solas doesn't turn out to be an LI I will still be a big fan. Even from what little we know he is a very intriguing character and I think he will add a lot to the game. (I really want to know more. :U)

I've been wondering lately if it's possible for a mage to tank in DA:I (like an Arcane Warrior could).  Because I don't consider Dorian off the table as a LI option (I've been warming up more to the idea lately), but I'm not removing Solas (and Cole) from my preferred party and...well, that's a really mage heavy party, even for me.  I like to keep things balanced and I'm also concerned the new special class skills are going to make it annoying if I don't run with a proper warrior.  
 
Even if I luck out and Solas is a bi LI, I'm still curious if I could get away with a party setup like that.

I often tanked with Merrill as a mage, in DA2 (even without Arcane Warrior). I would set my Hawke up with Force Mage, and Merrill with Wrath of the Elvan branch, completely upgraded. I would run in with Gravitic Ring and Pull of the Abyss (depending on the enemy types), and I would position Merrill right in the center of the Gravitic Ring. It was a pretty sight. Have Fenris as DPS warrior, and Varric or Issy for more slaughtering goodness.

I would say, you will still be able to do such things. I am one of those who finds, "A great defense, is a fantabulous offense."

I'm hoping for good things from Solas, since I'm not at all interested in Dorian and Vivienne, I'm going to need a mage.  Plus I think Solas will go best with my Necromancer.  Him and Cole, perhaps Blackwall as a tank for that group.

Or maybe they won't until/unless they release another trailer with the different characters speaking. It would be a bit odd to hear them speak for the first time through a VA interview...

On the subject of Cullen, he is the unluckiest Templar in Thedas. If I had been trapped in a demon prison by crazed mages I don't think I'd be a big fan of magic either. If I then witnessed my new boss take a lyrium sword and turn the courtyard statues into something straight out of Final Fantasy I would seriously contemplate insanity, or finding another job.

Solas: So he's supposed to be our military advisor?

Varric: Yeah. How long has he been standing there?

Solas: Since the meeting ended. I'm not sure that eye twitch thing he's doing is entirely healthy.

Reading through some of the other threads makes me wonder if the current niche popularity Solas has will drop if he is revealed to not be a love interest. What do you think? Will you be less inclined to come here and discuss him if all he'll ever be to you is a good friend? We won't really know how interesting he is as a character until his reveal and future gameplay, so for now all we have to go on is his appearance and speculation. The mystery is alluring; will having turn out to not be so good as wanting?

 

 I'm mostly interested in being bffs with Vivianne, Dorian, and Iron Bull because they sound like the most fun to be around and while I'm hoping for Solas to be a LI I'll certainly be his bff if he's not. I would not abandon his friendship or lurking this thread just because my fem inquisitor couldn't get at his digital booty.

 

But god I've been thinking about his personality for a while now and I'm starting to imagine him similar to someone like Feanor from the Silmarillion. Beautiful, Introverted,genius, passionate, fiery and certainly deadly....but hopefully not too crazy. My mouth salivates at the thought....

So here is my tipsy ass evaluation, on the potential LI's. Mind you, this is just from the different play throughs I hope to do, so it is purely based on my own tastes and preferences. Forgiveness if implied otherwise....

1) Straight Female Inquisitor - Solas.

2) Lesbian/Bi Female Inquisitor - Cassandra/Solas

3) Bi/Gay Male Inquisitor - Solas/Dorian

4) Straight Male - Scribbles/Cassandra

Again, this is just my preferred. Now!! I need to make a few amendments...

1) If Varric is a "race-gated" LI, I would totally do my ironic Brienne of Tarth version of a dwarven Warrior for him.

2) If IB is an extra LI, I would do a either a male dwarf, or if race gated, a male Qunari warrior/Rogue.

Here is the problem I (personally) have with Varric and IB. Varric, I still imagine being with Bianca; either literally or in memory (not that I don't wish for him to move on, but I am just saying...I could see him sticking to that, as he did in DA2). For Iron Bull, my biggest hurdle is "the Qun". Even if he is an outlier, and more at "ease" with bedding whomever, I still admittedly have a problem with RPing a PC, that would be fine with the Qun philosophy. A male Warrior/Rogue Qunari PC, I could do, and MAYBE a male dwarf. But not a female, mage, human or Dalish elf. I just can't do it. Maybe as a "fling", but that is it.

Just got through looking at some of the twitter posts and when I asked Allan how the ideas of the characters come about. It seems even he doesn't know except that there is a BAM everytime one is created.

It also seems John Epler likes demons. If he hasn't written a character I might have suspected him to write Solas

Well I also found that part of Feanors charm but I like a little drama, I'm weird that way . Anyway If Solas is a hermit loner in the woods somewhere I can definitely picture him at least a little paranoid..Those are the vibes I'm getting anyway. 

 

i can say nothing about your love of drama - my favorite of Feanor's line is Maedhros :3 

 

i agree that if he is actually a loner hermit the paranoia would be a good fit. i'm looking forward to seeing how this set of mages are different from each other. i think they've done a really good job so far of keeping my interest in my least favorite (but still very useful!) class by giving us characters that make me want to learn about their backgrounds and why they do the things they do. and these three seem so very different, i can't wait to interact with them and get the whole story. how are their different abilities going to help us? or even hurt us? i'm sure there are going to be some situations where an elf isn't going to be looked upon favorably (nor a necromancer in Dorian's case).
