You could say that all books are fanfiction for life. At least, that's what I snarked to my prof when we were talking about this during senior seminar during undergrad. I got a chuckle and then a glare >.>

There was almost an Alistair DLC?! I would have played that! Never played Leliana's Song, and while I love her in DA:I, can't say I've been interested in her for any of her other (many) appearances.

Leliana's Song is actually really fun and has an amazing soundtrack (but I'm biased, she's one of my favourite characters.)

I was looking through my screenshots to see if I had any to add to the 1700+ page celebration. Most of the ones I took for my Solas pile have already been captured by others, but I did find this one that made me grin. Tiger Festival seems suddenly aware of her imminent doom and misfortune at having me for a player.

"Did you have to make me kiss him? Don't you know that this will END me?"

Also, unfashionable teal velvet vest thingy for the scene. Very snuggly at least. Probably.

  Gotta say, I was giggling all the way through your post. I love stories of Solas taking people by surprise like that. I've heard variations on, "so I thought Solas was boring the first time around because bald and then I saw the ending" so many times, and it never gets old.

And even though I wanted to romance him from the very beginning, I was also caught off-guard by how...confident he is. I mean, he's conflicted all the way through the romance, but every single scene just sizzles. Was not expecting that at all.

I was actually interested in Solas from the beginning. I remember, when the LIs were not announced yet, and I was like "Oh gods let him be romanceable pleeease". Then I managed to spoil myself regarding his true identity before I even started playing, and it got me even more interested.

Shartan was a people-person. I did not get the impression that Solas was a people person to rally the slaves together for a cause. A scholar, not a leader.

Look how hung up on the past he is. The modern Dalish are playing "telephone" and passing information that is completely different from the original but so were the slaves a thousand years ago, just a little closer to the original messages. He dislikes elves for getting it wrong and he dislikes elves who don't care at all.

Ugh, "people-person" makes me think of Sera. By the way, she's trolling Lavellan and Solas, did you know? ("That's all right, because I meant boring. The elf always takes the elf so that banging bits will mean something").

But Solas has come a long way

I still remember the days when ppl were like "EEwwwwww he's bald dun want dat one to be a romance option"

And now he leads all the romance polls by far lol

He leads? He does? Then our chances of Wolf Hunt is exceedingly high, hell yeah!

Friendly reminder: please include the source if you're posting fanart. You can always do a reverse image search on google if you're not sure where it's from.

iy7nrC8.gif

Needs some Solas since it's the top of the page! (And I made the gif, so no source necessary lol)

*wub*

Your avatar is interesting, too. What outfit is that?

About Solas not being Shartan because he was a people person: I don't think Solas was Shartan, but I also think people misread his elfanthropy. As I've said about his anger towards the Wardens, I think a lot of it is misdirected anger at himself. He'll say this when he's challenged, that he was hoping for something different and can't expect more out of modern elves or the Dalish. He blames himself for the way the world is, after all. He just doesn't have a lot of hope that the current world state can be salvaged. That's where I hope we can convince him he's wrong.

Unless he's not wrong. The Dalish stuff didn't bother me much until the part where my girl says her clan kept Fen'Harel statues to keep bad spirits away. It made her sound like such a rube. Like, the kernel of truth is there, but the Dalish are basically banging sticks together hoping to get Arlathan back. *sigh*

I think it's because, unlike in DA2, you don't see all of their content unless you're actively on good terms with the characters.  Like on my first play-through I ended up missing almost all of Iron Bulls/Blackwalls/Dorians/Solas'('s'?'s''''') content because I really really really  like playing as an evil ****-in-your-cheerios kind of character.  Also on a lot of people's initial play through they tend to pick options that don't always align with the extremist views of the characters so sometimes people end up missing content if they don't agree read: lie   with the different characters' opinions in the dialogue choices, so without context and if you don't take them exploring (read: walking the dog) to get banter then they can seem two-dimensional.  But if you put in a little extra effort into getting on Solas' good side and getting all of his content, then bioware rewards you by RIPPING OUT YOUR STILL BEATING HEART. ahem. Anyways. Yeah.

There was another one where he had even more votes ;)
I wonder if the devs were expecting this or if they are shocked haha

Um, they added him as LI at the very last moment, so I guess it's at least a little surprising :)

And that coupled with the fact that they basically know nothing about said Arlathan. Or gods. Or anything. Heck, most of the things they believe in turn out to be just wrong. Which is really, really sad, and they are unlikely to aknowledge that they have been mistaken for so long.

Truth is I was hoping initially for a romance with any of Gaiders characters, because of Zevran and Fenris, but when I knew there was no chance for a female PC with either Dorian or Cassandra, I started begginf for Solas to be an option, because he was the only one that seemed interesting... And I have to say that thank the creators, the maker and everyone else, because I couldn't be any less interested in Blackwall and I've tried Iron Bull's romance and I have to quit, not because of the sex part, which I'm fine with, but because of all the "I know what you need", "Let's lay some groundrules", "let her rest"  :pinched: so not for me... I don't think I could emphasize it enough   As for Cullen, it would be going back to ME and romancing Kaidan: he's very good looking, he's very sweet and I find him very not atractive. I've done his romance (at least this one I could end it) but meh... It's the kind of romance I'd make canon if there were n better options only because I always have to romance someone

btw, on the subject of hot elfs, I always thought my thing was Gaider writing, not elfs, but now I don't know... I did prefer Legolas to Aragorn  :P

Also, about Solas/Shartan, I'm with the skeptics. Maybe he's the "maker", the one who talked to Andraste in her dreams, but more than that I don't think so. I'm totally on board though with elven gods=old gods (I think that could be what made him so angry about the wardens trying to kill them)

I wouldn't say they know nothing. The kernels are there, but they've been distorted, and as Solas says, the farther they go on, the more the distortion grows. I do think that many of them will not come back. Maybe I've gotten emo as I've seen clan after clan wiped from the face of Thedas, but I think only a remnant of the remnant will be able to transition to whatever's next. The rest will become what humans think they already are.

Teal velvet would be an improvement on what Solas is wearing in my game. He's back to goodwill couch-patterned armor. It does look quite good for snuggling though. Most of his armor does. He just keeps layering things. Regardless of whether those things actually go together. Apostate Hobo is right.

Though if we're being honest, I love his hobo look. Solas can sometimes get rather...intimidating. He's scary smart, knowledgeable, confident...actually an elven god. Him looking like he got attacked by the contents of an old lady's attic makes him more real, somehow. Cuddly. Whenever I put him in the keeper armor, he looks amazing, but also a lot less approachable.

But if you put in a little extra effort into getting on Solas' good side and getting all of his content, then bioware rewards you by RIPPING OUT YOUR STILL BEATING HEART. ahem. Huh, that's interesting. I found it fairly easy to get everybody's content. Even Viv, who hated my decisions, was on good terms with my Inquisitor. My Quizzy was the respectful, fairly serious type, though she was more playful with her friends. I don't think I ever had to game the approval system like I sometimes did in DA2 (I couldn't stand Fenris's rivalmance, but I also played a pro-mage magehawke, soooo...)

And speaking of Viv, I just got her comment on Solas/Lavellan. Of course she'd be the first to notice.

I do think Solas's content in particular rewards those who put the effort in to get to know him. The amount of foreshadowing was pulled off very well. It seems like it's everywhere on a second playthrough, but if you don't know then it doesn't give anything away.

I'm reading through The Silent Grove and this piece made me thinking insane things. Discussion, maybe?  :D

Spoiler

I'm late I know. But a woman has to sleep and dream of Solas sometimes.

And you people are insane, so many new pages ^^ My likes are gone and the day hasn't even really started.

Anyway, can we talk about this Rift/Breach in the picture? WTF?

We were here in this thread happily making flower garlands and posting pictures of unicorns Edit: and coconuts for months, then we got the spoiler...then, then the whole world changed (sorrynotsorry again), we went through a bit of panic and dread (also not sorry).  I don't think any of us expected him to be as popular as he is, it makes me happy though.

Her comment reminded me of that things occur in the game without out my knowledge, it made me start imagining them glancing at each other while exploring Emerald Graves, or sharing a smile when everybody's sitting around the fire of the camp at night.

Solas is my first elf romance in my canon Dragon Age playthrough.  ;)

In DA:O, my Mahariel romanced Alistair and in DA2, my mage Hawke romanced Anders.

For DA:I, I had every intention to romance either Cullen or Blackwall but then Solas caught me by surprise. I don't regret it, even if he broke my Lavellan's heart. The romance is worth the pain.  :crying:

Also, Solas art.

haha those are my canon romances, too!  i married cousland with alistair and although fenris was my second favourite DA2 romance, anders stole my heart from the beginning.  i fell in love with dorian first, so he ALMOST became my canon DAI romance, but then solas happened <3

Hey, at least his teal velvet vest looks a lot better than the bright yellow plaid vest over green shirt that he wore in my playthrough.

I wanted to face palm. It's like how did I not see this earlier? Like literally anywhere in the game:

Oh hey look a statue of a wolf

Oh hey look another wolf

Oh hey look another wolf

Hmm... I think something's up with Blackwall...

Oh hey look another wolf

Oh hey look another wolf

.. continue for 83 hours.

It's sad. I'm a forensic science student, my investigative skills should really not be this bad. But then again, I'm also the person who romanced Solas on my second play-through because I wanted to see what would happen.  List of things to not put on a resume.

Woo, you've noticed the rift too!

Anyways, my theory is that Fade and Thedas were not divided by the Veil at some point in the past. And I think that dragon is a form gods could shapeshift into (remember, as in ancient elven writing codex)

Hey, don't be sad, it's just writers being their stealthy selves.

i liked how elves looked the most in DA2, mostly because their facial features were VERY different from those of humans.  and yeah, they were super skinny in DA2 too, but i think it was easier to ignore when i was just running around as hawke instead of lavellan D:  she's so skinny, it hurts.

I think you and I are part of the few who actually didn't mind the change to elf facial structure in DA2. There were plenty of not so great looking elves in DA2, but guess what? That's life. Not everyone will be super pretty all the time, even in a video game. lol And yeah, they could have done a better job changing Zevran's face to fit the new look, but I think he's the only elf I had a problem with in DA2.

I've always liked elves, but I've never understood why their ears seem to be their only defining trait in the vast majority of media.

Ok so I've been lurking for a few hundred pages and I'm currently on page 1578 and I've decided that trying to catch up before posting is an impossible task.

So I just finished my "glutton for punishment" run through (read: nightmare difficulty + solas romance) and I'm seriously reconsidering some life choices right now.  My original play through I have to admit I thought Solas was bland, but I think it's because I missed out on most of his content seeing as my canon ass-hattery was apparently not his cup of tea.  I saw that stinger at the end and it totally caught me by surprise, like out of all the characters of course it's Mr.If-there-are-to-be-introductions-my-name-is-bald that winds up being the friggin' Dread Wolf/Elven God of all things dark and mysterious. So I got curious and wondered how much I missed and if he revealed himself to a romanced Delf PC...

Wth.

I was not prepared.  This unassuming little elf turns out to be the smoothest mother-fucker in the entire series.  The only way I know how to describe that romance is cupid taking a dump, putting it on your doorstep, setting it on fire, ringing your doorbell, when you go to answer the door you instead end up tripping and face planting right into it. It was so good and so horrible all at the same time.  Like I've been playing the Dragon Age series since Origins came out and I've never had any reason to post or use these forums before this. I had to create an account for this. It gave me feelings and now I need a DLC or something because this is not ok.

I totally expected his romance to be something uneventful and mundane, especially since his romance was added in at the last minute during the extra production time. Like in DA2, the whole reason I couldn't romance Anders was because the way his hair was on his character model it made him look like he was balding/ had a receding hairline.  And yet now I'm in love with the Solas romance. Oh the irony.

So yes. I am adding my voice in favor of needing a Wheres Baldo DLC. Like yesterday, preferably.

Welcome to the BSN, and the Solas thread.

Alright, so if it is "before the Veil", how could there be a Rift if a Rift is a breach in the Veil? Maybe it's something else? Or I am really missing something. XD
