It could be that the Dalish see Fen'Harel as the 'lone wolf' as opposed to just a general bias against wolves. The pack is strong together, just as the Dalish are strong together, just as the elven gods were strong together. Fen'Harel, to them, is the outsider. The lone wolf. The lone wolf threatens pack structure, he brings disease, he is more likely to attack than an actual wolf pack.

I don't mean to imply he actually is the lone wolf archetype, just what the Dalish might be thinking while revering some wolves and being cautious of others.

"Ma" means both you and my/mine. Example, "ma serannas"-thank you- translates to "my thanks."

So "ma vhenan" is "my heart."

It could be a way to emphasize possession. I'm trying to think of an example. In Turkish, canim is "my soul" (darling) and "canim benim" is also "my soul" but a more poetic way to say it.

I know, what I mean is, isn't "ar lath" without "ma" incompete, as "i love" without "you". I know little of this kind of thing, really, I don't know if I'm getting something wrong

yep, and the Exalted March and fall of Dales happened in the Glory Age, the one right before Tower Age

Maybe the myths currently spoken about Fen'Harel are pretty recent, then, and appeared around the Glory/Towers Ages and not soon after the fall of Arlathan.

Didn't the codex talk about how the word harellan show up until a certain age or something?

http://dragonage.wik...:_The_Rebel_God

Yeah, it says it didn't show up until the Towers Age.

Uhhh wasn't Flemeth born in Tower?

Another coincidence... But why would Flemythal start the Trickster stuff?

Yikes, seems like theres a lot of different things that can be missed due to bugs. I somehow managed to completely miss the fact that your companions had the spec books and went through half the game before figuring it out! So glad I did that in retrospect!

I had no idea about the crazy Miranda/Cullen threads... The weird Tali stuff was infamous across the internet so I knew about that, but never heard about all this other drama... So glad people are nicer here!

The tali sweat chart will go down in history. A hundred years from now in modern-history classes they will examen the social behaviors and activites of humans in the 2000s, and they will have internet data archives. Kids in classes everywhere will roll there eyes, and think that tali fans were utter lunatics..and wonder if they were a secret cult..run by the goverment. ;D

But back too more important things, like Solas <3

I don't really know how it's supposed to go, and I think it could go either way- "ar lath" could mean "I love you." Or it could be "ar lath ma, vhenan." We might only be assuming that's how it should be because it's more like English construction.

Someone maybe can tweet PW about it? I don't think it's a big deal myself.

Dude, seriously, this is making my heart break even worse for Solas. :(

Because think about it in sort of modern terms:

A family pet, a guard dog (Fen'Harel). The kids (The Dalish's ancestors? The slaves?) love him. He's a companion and he protects them, their parents (The Creators?), and their household. He's even friendly with the neighbors (The Forgotten Ones?).

But then the parents and the neighbors start fighting. A lot. In the house. Violently. It scares the children, threatens them, maybe they even started getting hurt in the process. This cannot be. It cannot stand. It must be stopped. The vigilant, watchful guard dog - in an effort to protect the children - locks both the parents and the neighbors outside of the house. The struggle is tremendous and draining, so he goes into a deep sleep.

The children are protected. For a time. Until the food runs out. And now they are starving to death inside their home when the guard dog awakens, and he sees to his dawning horror that his actions to protect them have now condemned them to a "worse" fate. And now the children view him with contempt, for they are starving and frightened and lost without their parents. They feel betrayed by him, he tricked everyone and now they are forsaken!

Maybe I extended that analogy way too far and/or oversimplified it too much, but that's sort of how I'm viewing the whole situation at this point.  :crying:

I'd rather start a chart of "how sensitive are Solas's ears."

@Dragon Racer

You are making me sad why.

Yea, but the language is so inconsistent.  It appears it can be used interchangeably as you or me/mine.  If you just use this game alone as the language guide than it appears the 'ma' means you.  Solas never calls Lavellan 'ma vhenan'.   I have a feeling the VA for Solas just put the emphasis in the wrong place but I can't really blame him when you're given lose rules about a half-made up language. I would imagine, as the story from this game progresses, we'll get more grammatical and vocab. rules on the language.  As far as Merrill's use of the term is concerned, one could conceivebly argue her usage is wrong because the Dalish only were able to save a little of the language and that was only some words and phrases.  Forget the actual nitty-gritty of the grammar.

The subtitles in-game say "Ar lath ma, vhenan," so that's what I've been going with. I agree with you, though--it could probably go either way.

They can't be that sensitive if they're exposed to the elements all the time.  How have the elves not lost all their digits/ear tips to frost bite? :P

The barefeet thing is pretty bizarre. I can understand Solas might not be bothered walking on the cold snow barefoot, but it seems like its just a natural thing for elves to do. They have magic feet.

Why is that inconsistent? All languages have homonyms. "Ma" means "my/mine" in other common phrases, like I posted up above- ma serannas being the example I thought of.

Anyway I don't hear this misprononciation people seem to. "Ar LATH ma, vhenan" sounds just fine to me. I think people are just assuming he makes a pause there rather than an emphasis?

I was thinking more...erogenous spot sensitive. If I had elf ears they would totally be erogenous spots.

I think this is the part where people usually say "I'll show myself out" so...

Haha, no I get it.  But it's just sort of hard to have it both ways.  On t'other hand, the same thing seems to be going on w/ Qunari nipples.  So.

I know. :(

But the "relaxed" pose wolf statue is sooooo cute. It's like a protective guard dog. I want to pat him on his little doggy head and then go play fetch in the backyard with him and maybe afterwards he'll roll over and I can tickle his belly for a while, laughing at the way his little doggy tongue falls out the side of his mouth.

And then that mental image fell into the "betrayal" analogy and oh god feels why.

it's definitely no big deal, and if it was not right there in the moment he says he loves her I might have never thought about it twice.

Have to admit that I can live with all the clipping in the world, or even minor incoherences in lore and such, but I can be very nitpicking when it comes to dialogues and voice acting, probably because it's what I value the most... and I know it and I don't usually bring up (much) this kind of complaints, but since this was already being discussed...  :P but I'm stopping now
