Friendly reminder: please include the source if you're posting fanart. You can always do a reverse image search on google if you're not sure where it's from.
Needs some Solas since it's the top of the page! (And I made the gif, so no source necessary lol)
OT here, I know, but dammit...why can't mage quizzy light veilfire all casual and nonchalant like that?
Instead of the flamboyant flailing-arms nonsense. ![]()
Thank you. I hope to assimilate with this lovely tribe of the blanket fort.
Welcome to the thread! I'm sure you'll get along fine here. ![]()

Cutscene magic! Solas does the flamboyant arm flailing during gameplay too.
Thank yout very much ~Welcome to the thread, and bsn.

I'm currently running a rogue trust me Solas does the flailing thing too, I think it's goes back to what Bull's said about all mages being a bit show-offy.
Despite the stories they have about Fen'Harel the dalish still lug his statue around and have him guarding the camp from spirits. It would be an easy thing for them to include him among the Forgotten Ones and not acknowledge him at all.
Lol...I know he does it too, and it's just so...excessive. No big deal, though. ![]()
This is from Fen'Harel's wiki page and reflects what Dalish Quizzy says when examining the statue at the Temple of Mythal. Doesn't this imply that, despite everything, they could have some memory of him being some sort of protector? Or am I totally misreading it?
In the modern day, statues of Fen'Harel are set facing away from any Dalish camp, as a reminder that the Dalish must always be wary, or else to protect against evil spirits.
Hey Solastians! Can someone please provide a link to the best translation of what cory says to him in the Fade? Google search is quite messy
I'm pretty sure it's somewhere in the FAQ section in the thread's first post. ![]()

It is the nightmare that speaks to him in the fade, I believe. As far as an accurate translation, we don't really know. We asked if Weekes could deliver a translation, but he has not yet done so. Presumably because there may be spoilers. Elvish does not really seem to be an exact translation language, so it could honestly mean whatever the writers want it to.
I believe the first post has a list of possibilities though. It seems to be generally assumed that the Nightmare starts off by saying, "Tell me, trickster" and then either comments that 'Solas' isn't real, or, that Fen'Harel should be used to having everything he loves die. Then Solas responds 'nothing is inevitable.'
But again, our perception of what it is and what the writers intend may be very different.

Yes, I've wondered about that, too. Because I saw that on the Wiki page, but could have sworn I'd heard somewhere that one excuse also given was that they were separating him from the other elven god statues or otherwise outcasting him. Like, not enough to totally abandon him, but definitely to make him feel an outsider from the rest.
But I can't for the life of me remember where I'm getting that from. Wanna say it was part of the stories you could ask about when in the Dalish camp in DAO during "Nature of the Beast", but that was so long ago.
In other news, stumbled upon this GIF. It's totally what I want to do to poor Fen:

Regarding show off mages:
Hrm maybe its similar to the mnemonic memory that links certain movement to certain biotic technics? Or was that made up by Me Fandom?
But it would be logic? Movment one makes fireball. Movment 2 makes barrier and so on?
Or does magic in da require certain movement? I assumed it came from focus and a strong mind and visualization.
I remember Wynn saying she had to learn to cast a spell just so and it would make sense mages learn to cast a certain way not just for their own safety but to get the result they want. Or in less words ITA casting is mnemonic memory.
Biotics using mnemonic memory is canon iirc Kaidan talks about it some in ME1.
Shoutout to Buffy fans: Does this thread remind anyone else of that scene in "Superstar" where Tara and Willow are adding mementos to their Wall of Jonathan Love?
Because I can't think of us any other way now, LOL!
Oh, man...old school! I love it! Yeah, I can see us like that.
To save time on making new animations. By using a human mesh, solas can use the same animations as the other companions and there is a large proportion of which are human. Rarely care for sera but I'm going to assume she also has human mesh since she's larger than an elf inquisitor so that they can reuse animations with Josephine.
Since bioware added an extra year to develop solas and cullen romances, it would have been easier to use the animation blackwall was using onto cullen and solas rather than spending time making male elf animations specifically for Solas.
edit: crap. Now that I think about it, I haven't animated or rigged in years. Just take this with a grain of sand then.
This is still basically true.
We can start the chart for what elf sweat tastes like.
Dude, seriously, this is making my heart break even worse for Solas.
Because think about it in sort of modern terms:
A family pet, a guard dog (Fen'Harel). The kids (The Dalish's ancestors? The slaves?) love him. He's a companion and he protects them, their parents (The Creators?), and their household. He's even friendly with the neighbors (The Forgotten Ones?).
But then the parents and the neighbors start fighting. A lot. In the house. Violently. It scares the children, threatens them, maybe they even started getting hurt in the process. This cannot be. It cannot stand. It must be stopped. The vigilant, watchful guard dog - in an effort to protect the children - locks both the parents and the neighbors outside of the house. The struggle is tremendous and draining, so he goes into a deep sleep.
The children are protected. For a time. Until the food runs out. And now they are starving to death inside their home when the guard dog awakens, and he sees to his dawning horror that his actions to protect them have now condemned them to a "worse" fate. And now the children view him with contempt, for they are starving and frightened and lost without their parents. They feel betrayed by him, he tricked everyone and now they are forsaken!
Maybe I extended that analogy way too far and/or oversimplified it too much, but that's sort of how I'm viewing the whole situation at this point.
Y U DO DIS
WHY
(like the analogy tho)

Except Solas is way hotter than Jonathan. But yes, I feel at once ridiculous and oddly compelled.

Hi everyone! Took me long enough to catch up with the thread ![]()
So heres my 2 cents on all of this...
I cant help but feel like this whole 'did he love someone else - did he have a hand in other big events' as part of why we cant have good things. And I am totally against dumping all big events on Solas and making him the be all end all of the whole Thedas.. like anyone else couldnt have had things done in the last few thousand years.
But. I feel we are somewhat giving him reason to keep his identity secret. To avoid the whole 'so maybe you and Adraste...' Nope, the guy doesnt need that right now and the Inquisition is busy and need to stay on track.
He found the one person who isnt slinging him right to his past mistakes, an anchor to the present. As much as I find umcomfortable to know more then my Lavellan does, I believe he intended it that way and it may not be such a bad thing. It gave him a chance to live a little instead of running after his tail trying to fix things that will eventually break apart again (not that we really made him stop. yet.)
Its like the whole 'is he good or bad' debate. It takes a much wider sense when you get to see all the decisions you made have long term consequences. We cant really look at things the same way: who's to say the Inquisition wont bring more hurts in a hundred years? All Lavellan knows is that he is / can be a good person in the moment. That his decisions seem to come from a good place. Just like ours id presume.
Dont get me wrong I love all the theorycrafting going on in the thread, but that doesnt affect what my Lavellan sees of Solas. Shartan/Maker/etc theories dont take away from their starcrossed romance where they both got to learn about themselves in a way they never thought possible (she learned about her roots / he learned about the present). Now if we could get more interaction between them and some closure ...
I know I'm a bit late, but I'll be graduating with a degree in Linguistics this Spring and I kind of want to do a giant analysis of all the Elvish we have available as a summer project before grad school... has anyone done that already?
