Hmm..it's a very very dark red on my TV....almost black with red highlights.

Lol, I know I'm not the only one who got brown.  It's brown in all the videos I've seen of him too.

And it fitsy theory that he.... Enjoyed life very much in his youth there must have been so many gorgeous elevn girl back then.

But none were as perfect for him as Lavellan!

I think a rift mage Lavellan hactually has a pretty fair shot at figuring things out (minus the whole, Fen'Harel business)

 

Thought process:

 

- Everyone whose tried to do rift magic other than me has failed/gone insane. I can do it cos of the anchor. 

- Solas can do rift magic. He claims its because he's spent so long studying the fade. 

- The power of the anchor came from the orb. 

- Solas knew what the orb was. And was sadder than I expected about it being destoyed. 

- It was awfully convient for a fade expert who knew what the orb was to be so close to the breach...

- OMFG THE ORB MUST HAVE BEEN HIS, THAT'S WHY HE'S THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN DO RIFT MAGIC OTHER THAN ME!!!

- Corypeheus must have stolen it from him or something! And he wanted to get it back this whole time!

- But why wouldn't he just tell me that....?

This is formed by his experience though.. What he sees is that races who were once great and powerful (and that is all of them in Thedas) have become weak and diminished. Fewer humans are born with magic and where once their mages were treated fairly (and often revered) they are now treated as little better than slaves and cattle, dwarves are dying out because their connection to the Fade has been cut off.. huge portions of their empires have been taken over by Darkspawn, and they lock themselves in their two remaining cities and underutilize the majority of their population due to the caste system, kossith are now following a ridiculous religion that leaves no room for personal opinions or individuality and the elves have been reduced to living hand to mouth, being treated even worse than Circle Mages are treated (and Maker/Creators help you if you are Circle Mage and an Elf) in tents and city clums. He is racist because people have devolved due to his actions rather than evolving to be better and they are not the people he knew. .. It is more blame the victims because blaming himself would make him suicidal than it is racism because he hates everyone but elves.. Thedas is dying when he intended to save it by locking the gods away so he hates others just as he hates himself.

I agree. But one thing is... We don't know what would have happened if he hadn't locked away the gods etc.

The world could be 10 times worse than what we saw in the redcliff future.

I wouldn't judge his actions back then to harsh. We don't know how bad it really was.

Thus I see it as more misdirected self hatred than hatred or bitterness towards others. And it is misdirected because while he locked away the Gods, freed the slaves of Elvhenan, and placed the Veil he is blaming himself for the things that happened after that - things that are not his fault. The Elves, the Humans, the Dwarves, and the Kossith made their own choices at that point and it is they who should own him.. But then it is rather expected that an ancient elven "god" should have a "God Complex" that tells him that everything that has gone wrong ever is his fault even when it isn't.

I agree with a lot of this, but I'd say he isn't that much fonder of elves (the modern ones anyways) than the other races. To me he only seems a little less wary of elves because they're the most familiar. Elves get the same treatment in the "I hate you" dialogue, I believe. That's one reason I'm not as put off by his prejudice towards races as I could be, because it seems to stem from cultural elitism (which isn't necessarily good) rather than hatred for races because Qunari have horns or humans have round ears etc. There's also the fact that he doesn't let his prejudices blind him from compassion towards people.

And they had contact with dwarfs some time before humans came from Par Vollen if I remember right.

 

 

I don't know exactly, but the codex entries say that contact with humans specifically caused the quickening in the ancient elves, which led them into panicking / initiated the circumstances under which Arlathan fell.

 

As for why contact with the dwarves didn't cause them to quicken? Unofficial theory: The dwarves are too short and the quickening couldn't reach high enough to infect the elves.

On another note, I've been reading Reddit, and somebody has just compared Solas to Hitler. Literally. Because of the racism.

See, my theory is that he's going to try and go back and undo the actions that led to the imprisonment of the gods.  We know the orbs make time travel magic possible. Then I found it very telling that Cole says to the Inquisitor, "You're real, and it means everyone could be real.  It changes everything, but it can't."  

In Solas' mind, everything that's happened since the fall of Arlathan is a "mistake" and "not real," a large-scale parallel to the future Quizzy saw when time-traveling in Redcliffe. It's much easier to view the Dalish--to say nothing of the other races--as miserable and inferior, to take away their right to exist.  Instead of questioning his assumptions or reevaluating his goal, however, he chooses to reject the Inquisitor.  He mourns the loss, but after all he's done, he thinks he should suffer, and if he realizes his goal, the Inquisitor will never have existed in the first place.

Completely agree.  They should have modeled the child after Morrigan, for immersion sake, that way no matter if Alistair performed the dark ritual, or the HoF, at least the little guy looks like ONE of his parents.
 
Also, where are all the other children?!  There are NONE in this game, and it freaks me out...

I think there's a demonic force that is slowly stealing away all the children in Thedas. In Origins we have a dozen or so suspiciously similar looking children running around (all the same age too. I think Thedasians can only get pregnant every turn years). Then in DA2 we see...two? Both boys that sound like they're going through puberty. And of course Inquisition has one little boy. He is the last child in all of Thedas because of Morrigan being there to protect him!

I think that scene is different, he was insulting, and really, what does a dwarf know about the fade? They don't' dream remember.

Varric knows all. This is all Varric's story. There is no Patrick Weekes or David Gaider, there is only Varric Tethras. 0_0 We are all only characters in His story.

So I've been dealing with the feels from the reddit spoilers by finally getting the Sims 4.  Try to stop me from my happy Solavellan ending now, BioWare!   I used this wonderful Solas model since I'm terrible at making guy Sims, and it's been like 5 years since I played a game in this franchise.

EDIT: Here in America it's in our History books,there's documentary and movies etc about it that comes on Tv.. But it's a different experience going to the Museum..walking in a train cart that had people (Men Women children)being taken to a place to be executed and then trying to comfort a stranger a young lady who is 10 years younger than you are who is balling from the sight...*sigh*.

I think it may be due to the humans, but it also might be "more complicated than that". One theory is that the Veil is more conceptual than a metaphysical thing. One must only perceive to be either in the mutable Fade or the immutable mundane world to transition there (p. 141 of World of Thedas if anyone is interested). Perhaps exposure to the different perception of the humans chipped away at the innate abilities of the elves to perceive the Fade and the physical world as connected and interchangeable, and this was more the problem than the mortality itself. Or maybe I'm way off base.

 

I also suspect that the dwarves were once immortal as well, mostly because according to the World of Thedas, "sickness is almost unknown among dwarves," and the dwarves seem very far removed from their old culture. They seem to have a special connection to Lyrium, which makes me wonder if they were much more similar to the elves way back when then they are today.

I feel like Fenris is sort of a closet-intellectual though. I feel he'd agree with Sera's views on mages and magic, but not necessarily on elves (the gift you give him is a book about Shartan, and he generally seems to like helping elven slaves), and not necessarily on her general demeanor.

Anytime people compare anything to Hitler (or facism) I just stop listening to what they're saying. 99.9% of the time it's an exaggeration.

 

Side-note: We were probably like 500ft away from one another when you visited - I work right next to that museum. I always get excited when people say they've visited!

Both Zev and Fenris are single in my canon worldstate with Lavellan.  And Abelas is still kicking around too.  I'm just saying, Solas, there are a LOT of hot elf men out there for the rebound if you don't get your crap together
