Sometimes I forget that all the power we see in the game is actually Solas'.The giant explosion at the beginning, the rifts, the floating mountain at the end. That was all Solas' power.

Imagine how powerful he would be if he was the one wielding it. He actually knows how to use it.

It's terrifying to think about.

Both terrifying and fascinating...Petition to get Solas a new orb!

Nevermind that half of that power seems to be in the Inquisitor's hand, which can tear open the friggin Fade. How crazy was Solas when he had hold of all of that?

If he ends up being the villain, he'll probably be one of the most powerful we've ever faced. I wonder how much he recovered by sucking up Flemythal like a milkshake.

Seriously, if we don't get to see him in a badass wolf form, I'll be so disappointed. Look how cool the dragon designs and movements were in DAI, can you imagine an enormous wolf? Especially if it's black with all the red eyes like in the tarot card. Cool. Way cool!

This has to be one of the best analogies I've ever seen,on the subject. :D

Ohhh I am imagining a scene now. Solas appears to the people of Thedas as even more terrifying than Corypheus at haven (honestly, he didn't scare me at all). He would be wielding an orb and have the glowy eyes + fierce expression at the epilogue cutscene. You only see the Fen'Harel in him and not the Solas. Then Lavellan appears from the masses looking at him in shock and his expression suddenly softens reminding you of the old Solas.

Solas has a solar panel for his sex machine so I think as long as it's always sunny he'll never get tired.

Little more serious:  he may be in his 40s but I get this feeling that Solas is not the type to get worn out easily.  (Not talking about sex, for real I'm not!)  He seems to be full of surprises that go against expectations.

His bald head is like magic Viagra.

I wonder, who's going to 'nudge history' now that Flemythal is dead?

Spoiler

History needs a good shove; apparently more frequently than expected!

It's terrifying to think about.

Its hard to say how much of that power is his and how much might just be chain reaction from Cory botching it. Kind of like ramming your car into a house with a weak foundation.

That said- I would still say he's insanely powerful compared to most of the mages running around today. Its probably equally terrifying for him to be without that kind of power. And a bit understandable why he always thinks he can just fix things. You have to think that having that kind of power does eventually get to you.

Even if Fen'Harel was able to resist going completely bonkers like the other elven gods, he still had the world bend to his whims once. His personality was shaped by that. Also terrifying to think is how bad things must have gotten for Fen'Harel to take a step back and realize they had gone too far.

Yep, would hate this so much.

I'm fine with a God baby choice (thought I'm not sure where everyone thinks one is going to come from?). But telling a female inquisitor she is going to lose her lover if she doesn't immediately want to have children with him is kinda gross to me.

I think if the choice to have an elven god-baby happened, it would be either the choice for the Inquisitor to do so, or no one.  I don't think they'd bring Merrill back just for that, and even if they did, do you really, truly believe she'd do the horizontal tango with Fen'harel?   I can't see him forcing it, so...  I also don't think it'd be something you'd have to do to stay in a relationship with him.  I'm sure if it comes up, it'll be optional.

Hrmm I still don't believe this "quickening because there were humans" at all...

Why would humans cause aging/mortality but dwarfs (and/or animals) not?

And they had contact with dwarfs some time before humans came from Par Vollen if I remember right.

I'm not entirely convinced it was "because humans" either.  Read Abelas's codex entry... it sounded, at least to me, like immortality may have been lost even though it was part of who and what the elves were, because their leaders were dead/dying/gone.  The young elves simply couldn't learn about what they were the way that they used to.

Tee hee!!

Yes I agree with this 100%. I would love for there to be an ending where he is turned mortal. And I think this would actually be a HAPPY ending for him. I think his immortality has only brought him torment and pain. Living a mortal life with a woman he loves would be enough.

Like in my stupid fanfic i plan on him dying like an old man in bed with Lavellan. And he is not remembered as the dread wolf or anything else. He's remembered as a trustworthy and wise man who was in love with Lavellan. In history he's written down as someone who helped the elves build a new empire and a lot of positive stuff. So the best thing he ever does is let himself die.

I actually think Solas would be miserable as a mortal.

Abelas frowns on shemlen (elven and human and otherwise) and Solas thinks Sera would want a gift that was "human and fleeting."  Ancient elves do not do "fleeting."  A mortal life would seem far too short for Solas, I think, especially after how long he's already lived.  The longer you live, the faster time seems to flow due to your perception of it.  He'd have a hard time adjusting to making shorter-term plans and goals, and then he'd have to suffer the aches and pains of aging, nevermind the potential for that brilliant mind to deteriorate if he happened to contract an elven version of dementia.

It's easy to romanticize growing old together, and that's fine for people who are already mortal.  For you or me, or any of us mere mortals, it's an adorable thing (and I've seen so many older couples who truly, deeply love one another and it is very sweet!).  But for someone who doesn't age already?  It's quite likely a horror story.

I want all of my PCs to go on to have happy, simple lives with their LIs. Unfortunately they seem to be destined to always be caught up in something. Even the HoF - who could so totally just disappear - is off trying to cure the Calling. Heroic people have to do heroic things. It's sort of tragic how no one is able to escape from it. I sort of like it too.

Anyway I consider the Dread Wolf to be an upgrade from apostate hobo >.>

I feel like Abelas would also have issues. His name means sorrow, come on. If Lavellan is going to move on to better... well if better means "safe" she should just go find a nice alienage boy with no magical powers or face tats.

He said before the interview that he would not be talking about any future plans or content. When they say spoilers I assume they mean Inquisition spoilers.

Oh, Abelas probably has more baggage than an airport terminal.  A relationship with him would probably involve teaching him about Thedas in the Dragon Age, while he taught the Inquisitor (probably an elf, because like Solas he might not be able to get past the non-elven-ness) about ancient elven ways.  So you'd be on equal terms, and there'd be no hahren/da'len dynamic.

Of course you could forget about the smexy romantic relationships and have him go for a hahren/da'len mentor-type relationship.  I know some people go all kinky for that, but I don't--if he did that with my Lavellan, they'd be purely mentor/student, no romance.

Or you could just be the guy's friend.  He seems like he'd need a few friends.

Imagine the **** that would go down if suddenly the elves in the alienage stopped aging naturally. Presumably elves in Arlathan still died from accidents and the occasional disease, but all of a sudden Thedas would be facing an impoverished class that isn't going anywhere. Not a lot would happen at first, but eventually, the elves would start to outpace the humans.

I would love to see where that would take us. Would there be riots? Vengeance? Would some elves not want to be immortal? Drama!

How does Thedas compensate for such a dramatic change in what is essentially their worker class?

Some elves very well might not want to be immortal, particularly the ones who were suffering the most.  But in being immortal, that would give them more motivation to fight back.  Which... might get them killed.

The Tevinter, and of course some others, would probably become very, very interested in how it was, exactly that elves were immortal again.  That would not be good news for elves.  They would also gain value as slaves, for that reason.

Basically, it would probably not be good for the elves unless someone stood up to protect them while raising them up to immortality/possibly giving them all magic.

On a tanget but; If anyone would want to read some Solavellan smut, I wrote a fic here!

Just had to quote this because I'm amused that Abelas is writing Solas smut.

I would rather have a choice of Lavellan and Solas being together than not. I know some people like the tragic sad endings but not everybody does. If it takes Solas to lose his powers to be with my Lavellan that is okay by me. With what he's gone through for centuries he deserves some sort of happy ending as does my Lavellan.

Happy endings is my kind of thing.  :P

@HurricanGinger  I was thinking the same thing,it just doesn't sound like Flemeth..maybe it's Andruil?

I definitely think a happy ending would be better and hope we get one. But, for some reason, this time I'm not upset about the heartbreaking ending, and I'm not sure why. Because it is nicely done? or maybe just because a "we love each other but circumstances keep us apart" is easier to swallow than, "hey, how you've been? I'm going to have a baby"? I don't know

I have a random thought. What if the elves losing immortality thing actually has something to do with the blight? Like maybe the Creators and Forgotten Ones were trying to create a powerful weapon to kill each other and some of the gods went too far and sacrificed a lot of elves' to make this weapon. They used blood magic make a new weapon based on faulty theory and the weapon did not turn out to be as expected. It was the blight and the blight started taking over the elves making them go insane and making them lose their immortality. Solas saw that the only way to cure the people of the blight was to seal Arlathan + the gods + most of the blight away into the fade/black city. But a lot of damage was already done and the elves are no longer immortal. There are also random side-effects such as the case that when they have babies with other races, the babies don't look like elves. Solas also took care to erase this part of their history from the memories of his people so that people won't go looking for the black city. Unfortunately, you cannot erase all history so the magisters eventually found the black city anyway thinking it was something special and end up spreading the blight again.

In that case, do we need Mythal?

She wouldn't stand for anyone asking what kind of milkshake she is. Probably.

I'd say mint, by the way. It would be called a Minthal shake.

I could definitely see Solas thinking that. He seems open to the idea of the Maker in his talks with Cassandra.
