Okay, I have to admit something to you fellow Solas fans. I'm a crap roleplayer, so I have been reading peoples headcannons here to substitue the lack of character in the inquisitor. Don't worry I'm not stealing or claiming your inquisitors as my own. I guess the best way to put it, is your headcannons fill the blank pages that the game didin't give me. So i'm living precariously through your headcannons.
So thank you for sharing.
That's okay. IT MAKES IT MORE REAL.
But are there better compassion spirits? Can spirits really be all that unique or is just the circumstances that change them? Could any justice spirit have become Justice or any compassion spirit become Cole?
Humans are naturally unique and individual because of our genetic make up and then our lives and experiences shape us. Spirits don't really have that. They're simplistic and don't seem to hold on to things. (Cole does, but only because of his contact with humanity)
I'm going to go with "yes" to that question. There is a codex entry or two that talks about the differences in spirits that feed on terror. Some only take the basic shapes of things that scare the person they are focusing on. Some take a more complex method to feeding on terror, like the one we encounter in the game. There are "lesser" and "greater" versions of whatever emotion the spirit holds onto.
Spirits themselves have a bit of personality variety as well, if only because the trigger for "deciding" their bit of the psyche they emulate would be different for all spirits. I imagine that they are sentient and can adapt, but are...more like real world autistic children. They have lots of trouble coping with too many, or too much experience at once. They tend to focus on a few specific things that make them comfortable, but with patience they can adapt. Autism itself has a wide range of how it affects people, so there's that too.
I'm out of likes, but... yeah.
Spoiler
Team Optimism, give me happy Solas theories and things. I'm feeling down tonight.
Lingering in the Sun - My fluffy post-game reunion piece.
And for you, more fluffy reunion, hidden beneath the spoiler tags.
Anyway, that's all the happy I've got in me.

Who really knows. Being unique + complex doesn't automatically mean it's better. We just value that cuz we're humans/individualists. People from collectivist countries might not see what's so great about being unique. Spirits have their own strengths and good qualities which is why Solas puts them on a pedestal.
As much as I love Solas, there are still times when I see his face and want to say F*** Y**! *10,000 punches*
RIGHT? I've said it before and I'll say it again: this experience was way too much like an /actual/ break-up.
I must be blind because I don't see freckles?
They are really subtle and you can only see them in certain lighting. Which makes them even cuter!
Fluff do?
"Scout Harding!”Harding very, very subtly froze. Cassandra narrowed her eyes. Everyone was trying to slink away from her this morning. More than usual.
“Yes, serah?” Harding asked. Perfectly respectful, yet.
“Is there a reason you are attempting to avoid me?” Cassandra decided to try the direct approach. It worked for the Inquisitor. Why not try it?
“Er.” Harding let a noise escape before catching herself. “You, ah. When you return to Skyhold after a long mission with Her Worship, you can be. Ah.”
“Cranky and unforgiving?” Leliana finished.
Cassandra wrinkled her nose at her. She was starting to agree with Cullen: Leliana needed a bell.
“Her silence is her form of agreement,” Leliana added serenely. “Have you seen the Inquisitor?”
Harding hesitated before answering. “Her Worshipfulness was in the garden with her gentlemen, last I saw her.” And made a quick retreat into the armory before she could be interrogated further.
Cassandra huffed as the pair meandered toward the lower garden in the side courtyard. “I am neither cranky nor unforgiving.”
“Much,” Leliana corrected her. “You rode into the castle at almost dawn after a week of hard fighting along the Storm Coast. You are allowed to be cranky and unforgiving, Cassandra.”
They found Solas reading under one of the more lush trees. At first, Cassandra thought him alone, and she started turn sharply about to chase after Harding. Leliana placed a hand on her elbow.
The Inquisitor was fast asleep on Solas’ thigh, her face hidden behind her fist, and her body tucked tight against his side. Solas had one hand resting lightly in her hair, absently stroking along her ear as he read a book propped on his other raised knee.
“The Inquisitor declared that my lap was a siren, calling to her from across the castle,” Solas offered without looking up from his book nor releasing his hold on the elf in his lap. “That was several hours ago.”
Cassandra’s ears went pink. Both Solas and Lavellan were rather private individuals. “We beg your pardon--”
“Oh your gracious ladybits!” Sera sing songed. She and Dorian were traipsing down the courtyard stairs. “Time for dodge the arrows and fireballs thrown by friends not evil god shats time!”
“Inquisitor!” Cullen shouted from the upper courtyard. He and Josephine were leaning over the battlements above. “We must meet in the War Room--”
“--Dragon!” Lavellan sat up with a start. Her hair was sticking straight up on one side, and there was an impression of Solas’ belt on her cheek. “Bad dragon! Bad! No dragon biscuit! Stabby stab!”
Everyone paused. Sera cackled into her fist.
Solas leaned forward. He soothed down some of Lavellan’s wayward hair. “No dragon, emm’asha.”
“No dragon?” She parroted back. Then looked down. “Why do you have pants?” she asked in the sadest tone imaginable.
Even Cassandra cracked at that. Sera doubled over, and Dorian smacked his face with his palm. Josephine lead Cullen and the crowd above away before they could intrude further. Out of the corner of her eye, Cassandra could see Leliania try to cover her own smile with her fingers.
“I believe the Inquisitor is not yet prepared for daily meetings. Let us try again on the morrow.” Leliania herded Sera and Dorian back up the stairs.
Cassandra followed but glanced over her shoulder. Solas’ ears were bright pink, the only thing visible behind his book, and Lavellan happily snuggled back down against his shoulder.
That was hilarious, you've made my day. Or night ![]()

Awesome writing on Bioware's part. They managed to make it realistic, rather than sappy or awkward (as in teenage drama, not adult drama). Still hate it. My face mirrored Lavellan's, but it could have ended up so much worse if the script was written a little differently.
Yeah, well the Qunari don't value individuality either and I really disagree with their way of thinking.Who really knows. Being unique + complex doesn't automatically mean it's better. Guys, what do you think? Still sketchy as hell, but I would really appreciate some criticism
*snorts* what is this gif from and what is she wearing? How could you?!?!

Oooh! I like it! I notice a lot of fan artists don't capture his face...like you know it's Solas, but it's not "Solas". This is definitely Solas!
Thank you! I did make heavy reference though
I also noticed that ingame animation of eyes is weird, eyeballs are too sunk in the face or something like that. Ugh.
*snorts* what is this gif from and what is she wearing?
And I agree. Solas doesn't deserve punches... He deserves a fireball to the face!
Edit: Just noticed I'm the last three posts. Probably should of combined them....oops.
Googlefu.
The secret art of google and fu.

I love all the colors and the texture of the painting, and your shading. What program are you using? I have been working on one of my own but don't have the nerve to post what I have so far. xD

You have no idea, how I am flattered, because I'm self-taught. Kudos! Now I'm trying to decide how to paint it further, my previous idea escaped me.
I'm using PS+Wacom Bamboo.
Oh, and do share, it's always interesting to see other works!

this is just personal preference but possibly use a dry brush to spice up the skin texture?
edit: to go in further: it's to simulate pores.
Lol. Solas Recovery Wing will help with that. . . Help to bury it and never let it see daylight. >.> It's recovery, right?! We're not enablers. . .
Found some more fan art. Would be awesome if he made Lavellan his lady again if his plan goes well :3 I mean, he didn't leave her forever, right? "In another world..."
I mean, at least give us the option damn it >_<
What kind of blood sacrifices must be performed to have this in the next DLC/Expansion?
Regarding show off mages:
Hrm maybe its similar to the mnemonic memory that links certain movement to certain biotic technics? Or was that made up by Me Fandom?
But it would be logic? Movment one makes fireball. Movment 2 makes barrier and so on?
Or does magic in da require certain movement? I assumed it came from focus and a strong mind and visualization.
It's been mentioned that mages need their hands free to cast. This probably isn't completely true, but I suspect it's true if they want to cast something specific without it misfiring into a magic mess. There's some implication there that the hand movements and arm waving done during some casting isn't just for show. The idea that it's a sort of ritualistic focus technique seems likely. Maybe particular hand movements correspond to a particular spell, and others might be for more generalized effects. It probably takes a very advanced mage to safely cast certain spells with little to no focus tools or techniques. Visualization seems to be the core of how to mage, but I imagine controlling intent is also important.
So I'm at the Urn quest in Origins, talking to the guardian of the urn. I'd completely forgotten about him, but he seems to be the human version of Abelas: the guardian of a sacred relic bound to live until such a time as his service is no longer required. So apparently immortality is not necessarily something that only elves can achieve. He says his life is tied to the ashes because of a vow, and that he remains until the ashes are gone. It's also pretty interesting to me that he can tell you about your history down to naming the people that were involved, so clearly he has some connection to something.
Anyway, just thought it was interesting. It is probably a completely different type of magic from what I think made elves immortal, but still cool.
That guy was a spirit; Morrigan calls him out on it if you have her in the party.
He has a hunchback. And Shartan has had a hunchback in every one of those mosaics I've seen.
Where are they coming from, btw?
Those pictures are in World of Thedas Vol 1. Pretty sure the hunchback guy is Maferath, and the guy holding the urn is Havard.
