As much as I love Solas, there are still times when I see his face and want to say F*** Y**! *10,000 punches*

This is why I really hope when we meet him again, they don't stick you on an "angry dialog track" when you pick an angry dialog option.

It annoyed the crap out of me when I realized if you pick the "are you kidding me" dialog option, all your following options continue to be angry. Maybe I'm just schizophrenic in my emotions, but I totally am ready to go:

Solas!!!

FIREBALL!!!

*hug him and never let go*

That makes a pretty good argument for pro-human. Do you think Justice could have eventually developed more human complexity if he spent more time on his own, and not jumped ship to Anders? He totally could have found a less decomposed corpse to inhabit so he didn't scare everyone. While his connection to things out of the Fade are more tenuous than Cole, it's possible he could end up like the Grand Oak (rhyming tree in DAO) where he just accepts it and develops slowly over time.

The reason Justice had to switch bodies is that the corpse he was in was decaying, as I recall, and there was a risk of Justice dying/being returned to the Fade because of it.  Corpses only stay fresh for so long, you know...

Yeah, well the Qunari don't value individuality either and I really disagree with their way of thinking.
My Lavellan is always soaking up Solas approval, the first thing they ever disagree on is spirits and how they should be viewed. In retrospect, Solas obviously knows more about them then Lavellan ever could but I still have a hard time giving their lives the same value as people. You say they have their good and bad qualities, but all they have is their good or bad quality. They're either this or that...it's so very alien from how humans think and live.

According to Solas's dialogue about his personal quest, every spirit has its own personality.  His friend Wisdom was different from any other spirit of wisdom.  She had different memories, different experiences, and a different personality.  Also, although she was a spirit of wisdom, she was clearly capable of experiencing other emotions.  Same goes for Cole, who can be excited, fearful, etc.  He's a particularly powerful spirit of compassion, and unique in other ways as well.  I remember there being dialogue about how he might become super-powerful thanks to the Inquisitor's actions, if he is made a spirit, thus, Compassion might one day have as big an influence on Thedas as Nightmare does.  That's not something to take lightly, and it isn't something that Cole could achieve as a human.

What I'm getting at is that spirits already are unique individuals.  Just because they embody a specific ideal (not necessarily an emotion) such as Justice, Peace, Valor, Compassion, Mercy, etc., doesn't mean that there isn't more to each individual's personality.  That's one reason Solas doesn't like them to die--they MIGHT be reborn, in time--it's harder if one dies because then they can't influence the world--but it wouldn't be the same individual; the new spirit would have a different personality.

That said, I am fine with either decision because both have their merits and their drawbacks.

You have no idea, how I am flattered, because I'm self-taught. Kudos! Now I'm trying to decide how ti paint it further, my previous idea escaped me.

I'm using PS+Wacom Bamboo.

Oh, and do share, it's always interesting to see other works!

Ahh ok, I use the intuos Wacom and SAI.  Not sure I am ready to post up what I have so far...maybe tomorrow I can PM it to you.   ^_^

this is just personal preference but possibly use a dry brush to spice up the skin texture?

edit: to go in further: it's to simulate pores.

Yeah, see I have no idea how to simulate pores in SAI and am struggling with how I want to proceed in regards to skin texture.  Not sure what a dry brush is though or how to apply it to what I already have started.

I want to pull a Mass Effect 3 jack style kiss. Jump from the balcony, punch him in the face, then make out super hard.

I will state again, I am a crazy person.

I'm on your team, Birdy.

They've painted themselves into a corner.  For some people Hawke was way off in DAI.  HoF is a War Table mission.  It's getting messy trying to balance all of the possible outcomes for each protagonist, their romance, and companions.  I don't see it as feasible any more to have a new protagonist in each game.  Not unless they're going to do a major jump in time.  If they're going to stay in the current timeline... nope we need some consistency.  And I agree a DLC isn't enough to do the story justice.  Especially not with how massive DAI was.

Part of what makes Mass Effect such an incredible experience (not interested in debating the ending or how bad anyone feels ME3 was) is the fact that Shepard has 3 games to build a team, 3 games to get to know everyone.  Some companions return, and there's new ones.  I am glad that Dragon Age didn't just follow the same formula.  The changing of the guard has worked, up until now.  Going forward i see the Inquisitor for at least one more game.  I know a lot of folks don't like that idea.  I just don't see how it helps the story to have to get to know another protagonist and all of their companions.  I would love for once to stick with some of the faces I have already built something with.

I want to believe you are right.

I feel like the Inquisitor's story isn't done yet, especially because of their anchor and their (bad/good/wonderful) connection to Solas.

I'm not really ready to let the Inquisitor go yet... I feel like there was no real ending to her story, unlike HoF - even before Awakening I felt like her story is done, same for my Hawke (part of why I didn't really want Hawke in DAI, I was afraid her story will go off rails to a direction I didn't like, I was quite content with imagining her & Fenris together, living in some place with nice.. grass.. And trees... Or something. Although I sacrificed Stroud I know she won't have a happily-ever-after with Fenris since she went west with the wardens :|).

Plus, it'd be weird cutting off such a big organization, the actions of the Inquisition affected the decision of who to choose as a divine! That's one big deal, among other very big deals.

Doesn't the epilogue state that "new dangers await the Inquisition ahead" or something similar? Sounds very much like a Sequel Hook to me.

On the other hand, if they don't want to continue with this, they can just say that the Inquisition was disbanded as everyone has their own business to attend to.

Yeah, I'm way more stuck on the Inquisitor than I ever was on the Warden or Hawke, though I do love all three characters.  Part of it is that my Lavellan's story feels so unfinished; it might feel different with another quizzy.  My best friend is invested in Solas's story (partially because I won't shut up about it), but her quizzy doesn't particularly care what he's up to and is perfectly happy just riding off into the sunset with Cullen.

The other part of it is my Inquisitor's personality; she's not a badass in the traditional sense.  My Hawke and Warden were both Amell mages with very forceful personalities.  My Inquisitor is gentle, sweet, and forgiving--much more the Sansa than the Arya.  It's been a lot of fun to find strength in that character and watch her grow.  I feel like she still has so much more growing to do, even after DA:I.

Agreeing with DAI's story feeling unfinished or just... kind of unimportant? After the stinger, Corypheus really doesn't seem like he was that big of a deal (also the weak boss fight). They did leave a lot of room for DLC though, so maybe we'll get something that's satisfactory out of that before we have to move on.

I think choosing the Divine is going to be an "illusion of choice" choice. It should be important but it only actually affects who may or may not have a cameo/mention in the next game. The same way choosing the king or queen of Fereldan doesn't really change anything.

Found some more fan art. Would be awesome if he made Lavellan his lady again if his plan goes well :3 I mean, he didn't leave her forever, right? "In another world..."

I mean, at least give us the option damn it >_<

What kind of blood sacrifices must be performed to have this in the next DLC/Expansion?

No matter whom you pick as Divine (and how much people scream about their favorite candidates on BSN), things do get better overall regardless.  The three Divines implement things differently, but each of them still improves the condition of the mage/templar thing, and the inclusivity and stability of the Chantry.  Even Vivienne, the status quo candidate, realizes that things can't just revert to the way they were before.

Yeah, it's one of those things where everything ends up in a "close enough to the same" state. If the Divine is relevant in the next game, it will be in the same capacity that any configuration of who rules Fereldan has been. The same events occur in DAI no matter who you put on the throne. It feels like it's a big choice but it doesn't really change the story.

I used to use SAI, they have good basic brushes and I like their blending tool.

My drawing habits are spotty so i'm no way at good explainer. but generally dry brushes is good for changing of light in pores. This is especially important for close of pictures and generally seen with men. Though the further you are, nobody is going to see your pores unless you have super eyes. . Here's a little idea. Like I said, it's just a preference.

Hello!

I haven't really been hanging around this thread yet, because I don't want spoilers, I just wondered if anyone could tell me spoiler-free if there are any romance-specific scenes I have missed.

I'm 80 hours into my 3rd and completionist playthrough and so far I've gotten the romance versions of the conversation in the Fade and the balcony scene after All New, Faded For Her.

I've done Adamant and Halamshiral, and got to dance with Solas (squeeeee!!!), but I don't think I've locked in the romance yet. I was just wondering:

How many more Solas romance specific cutscenes are there? And is it possible to go and kiss him like with other love interests? Please no spoiler details.

Happy New Year and Dread Wolf Take You!

As for why Solas could be race gated...at this point, its anyone's guess. It could be they just thought Fen'Harel would never find interest in a non-elf. It could be that future plans involve rebuilding an empire, and a non-elf would not make sense to be intimately apart of that. His actions could restore elven immortality. Or, it could simply be that they wanted to write the romance with a heavy focus on elven lore and customs without taking the time and effort to stop and explain them for non-elves.

Let me distort what you wrote there

-Waves an extravagant, over the top team optimism flag-

How about!

Whatever Solas does returns immortality to elves, and since Solas is afraid of dying alone (and perhaps watching loved one dies) then Solas will feel comfortable in the relationship if the lover can be immortal as well? Humans, dwarves and qunari won't fit this position, Solas would've had to dump them.

That way Solas & Inqi can be together forever?  :D

To be honest, I just like to think that Solas just has his preferences.

I got a friend who likes pale skin and dark hair (he really isn't attracted to blonde hair), nobody questions him, they just accept his preferences.

I have a friend who is really put off by skinny, I got a friend who is put off by even slight chubbiness, I got several friends with redhead fetish (it is a beautiful hair color, though it makes me think of Iron Bull >_>, Lavellan is a redhead, I felt disturbed for her when he went 'mmmm... redheads'), I got a friend who pretty much refuses dating guys who are shorter than her (and she is quite a tall girl, so they are hard to come by).

They are all good people, even if I'll never understand them ^^;

Heck, when I was younger I had my preferences as well - they were entirely inspired by Johnny Depp (now I basically know that I'm attracted to intelligence, if a guy is smart [plus nice, obviously], I can find him handsome, even if I thought otherwise before XD [coughSolascough]), I couldn't imagine myself dating a white nerdy guy (even if they are usually spot on personality-wise).

So, basically what I'm saying: whatever the reason for the gating, I personally feel it makes him more of a real person, even if the gating is inconvenient. I don't think they need to justify the gating, like they don't need to justify Dorian being gay (a lot of people wanted him to be romanceable for females, he is, objectively, really handsome + awesome personality) or Cass being straight, or Vivienne/Varric not even being options.
The only thing I'm curious about is the "super story" thing, I just hope it means DLC.

So was reading, the 43 most romantic quotes and this one got me thinking about Solas/Lavellan:

I’m watching her talk. Watching her jaw move and collecting her words one by one as they spill from her lips. I don’t deserve them. Her warm memories. I’d like to paint them over the bare plaster walls of my soul, but everything I paint seems to peel.

—Isaac Marion, Warm Bodies

I don't know what its from and the context, but well...its got an obvious Solas thing to it :)
