i realize he does this for all the other inquisitors, but it's just so romantic in the context of the Lavellan Solas relationship. He paints for her, he gives her a home, he treats her when she's ill      . To be honest, Solas might be one of the few characters who is an equal to Lavellan. Unlike the other pcs we played Lavellan is special in that she has a power (the mark) that no one else in the game has. Hawke just simply a hero of circumstances. The HoF didn't have special powers either. The other characters were not revered in the same way the inquisitor is. Hence, people like Cullen who are Lavellan's subordinates might not be her equal and the relationship is a bit unbalanced in that sense. With Solas, it's unbalanced in the other direction, but Lavellan has the potential to catch up whereas the other companions really don't. I guess if you make Cassandra the divine, then she is equal to the inquisitor, but then you can't be together so...

Cassandra fought dragons before I did, lol. She doesn't need a handicap from me. The woman was already phenomenal

As for Solas, I don't know if what Cornflakes does in the end of the game was due to his taint fueling his power, along with the red lyrium, but if Solas was anywhere near as powerful as that, he outclasses us by far.

Of course, that didn't stop us from killing Cornflakes...

I like Jesse Cox...he has respect and likes Solas. I quit watching his DA:I playthrough though cause he has really rude fans that are badgering him to stop putting Solas in his party...jerks.

I'm listening to the 5 hour long party banter video and Solas' lines are interesting. It seems to me like his motivations are a lot less towards restoring the old ways/releasing the gods and a more towards stoping slavery in every way no matter how it turns up.

Maybe he isn't trying to release the old gods at all. Maybe he has a different plan that none of us can see yet.

That makes sense with my other theory that the Dragon Souls are the keys to unlocking the old gods. And that the blight is the old god's way of manipulating humans to unlocking them. Sure it takes thousands of years but immortals can play the long game.

This reminds me of a new southpark episode, lol. Watching other people play, then bitching at how they play... seems really sad.

Oh yeah, gotta sell that GOTY edition.

I do worry that the suits will say "this guy was a romance option only for female elves? alright, you get this tiny pile of zots to acknowlege that and the rest needs to be ****** and action." I mean, the writers only have so much say over what gets produced.

I'd assume that the writers got the go-ahead for the entire arc, not just whatever appears in DA:I. So if there is supposed to be something more to Solas' romance it's probably already been approved. Otherwise why put in something you know is going to be lackluster? Weekes isn't some disconnected marketing dude (though I love you marketing dudes, you're my people), he's just as involved as we are. I don't think he'd agree to write Solas' romance at all if he wasn't sure he'd get to resolve it. For better or for worse...

We can hope, but also recall that Solas originally wasn't a romance option at all.

Which is one of those things like the fact that Jessie was originally supposed to be killed off at the end of season one of Breaking Bad. The "last minute change" that makes the story. For me, anyway.

I swooned at his "release the slaves of all races" comment he made to Dorian. I really appreciate that his prejudices are shallow compared to his compassion and belief in the free will of other people.

It is possible we're not done with Skyhold yet. There's a lot of weirdness in Skyhold that doesn't seem to do anything. Like the evil book at the bottom of the stairs, numerous empty rooms, and the upgrades. [Although the text does say that the upgrades are cosmetic, and does not actually suggest they would give a bonus to anything.]

Still, creepy book.

There's also the mention in one of the notes about the heat coming from underneath that has me curious. Hot as a forge in spots, I think it says.

And I really want that tiny library alcove fixed up for my Mage!Lavellan.

It is hard to say what Solas's end goal is. Except that we know that it requires a substantial amount of power, and that it is for 'the People.'

I'm not sure if he just wants to free slaves. If he did, then he would feel more empathy for the plight of the city elves and other impoverished groups. It could be that he wants to release the elven gods. Or it could be that his job is still to contain them. If there is another elven god about to break free and wreck things up, then it would be understandable that he'd need the power to be able to face them. But that seems much more like a noble goal, not one that he'd be feeling guilt over.

I do think whatever is going on, its fairly complex. Mythal's motivations seem centered upon revenge and restoring the old ways. Mythal apparently knew that Solas would need her power, which was part of the reason she nurtured the spark. [Possibly.] That does imply that the great betrayal of the world, and Solas's end game, is linked.

@Creepy book: When you go to Skyhold, run to Josephine's room. Don't go to the war room, take the flight of stairs that attaches to her room down into the large empty space. Follow one of the hallways in the far corner, and it will lead you down to the spooky book room.

Patrick says that he added the Solas romance IN A WAY to make it sadder, because he wanted to show how much Solas cared for you, in the last scene he was so close to telling the truth about himself but then twists it into the vallaslin story because he gets scared. He wants to forget about the past but he chickens out at the last moment and because he did not tell you the truth about him and feels like if he doesn't pull back after the kiss, he's going to feel like he's betrayed himself. I DON'T WANT ANY OF YOU DOUBTING SOLAS' FEELINGS AFTER THIS YOU HEAR ME! *shakes fist*

I must admit, after his "reveal about the vallaslin" I was simply not convinced that this was his actual reveal he wanted her to tell. So I kept going and played my Lavellan with one huge sceptical eye //*shakes fist* SOLAS!

OKAY I THINK...

I THINK I'M CRAZY...

BUT I ALSO THINK I'M RIGHT.

[spoilers]

“The Dragons Unlock It”

About a week ago I found this written next to my bed when I woke up. I’ve been trying to figure out exactly what I was thinking in my twilight sleep every since and I think I’ve figured it out.

Hear me out and listen to my whole Theory before you dismiss it.

The 7 Dragon Gods of the Tevinter Empire held the keys to opening the doors to where the Old Elvehn gods are. My assumption would be the souls are the keys to the Illuvians that lead to the old gods.

Morrigan says that all illuvians have a different key to open them. Like how the one at the temple of Mythal needed the power of the well.

[quote of morrigan saying all Illuvians have different keys]

Morrigan’s son has the soul of one of the Dragon Gods that was killed in Dragon Age: Origins, which opened the Illuvian she had. Morrigan was able to first open that Illuvian when she was with the god baby. Morrigan says she doesn’t understand how her son was able to open the Illuvian, but it was because he had the soul to open it! I don’t think she ever really figured this out and never realized what the soul in him was really needed for!

Corypheus was a worshiper of Dumat, the Dragon God. But he never actually saw Dumat as evidence of his final words.

[“Dumat if you ever existed. Ever truly existed. Aid me now”]

So I am assuming at the point of being worshipped by the Tevinter Empire, Dumat and the other dragons are stilled locked away deep underground and the dragons are speaking to the Tevinters through dreams of some sort.

Dumat is the one who told the Tevinters how to get to the black city, and this resulted in the Blight. Dumat WANTED the blight to happen. Dumat was the first archdemon to be corrupted by the darkspawn as well. Which in turn resulted in dumat finally being killed by grey wardens about 70 years later. When he was killed and the grey warden died, that released the soul. The Key.

Now look at this quote found in the fade written into red lyrium.

            "Whispers Written in Red Lyrium:"

WE ARE HERE

WE HAVE WAITED

WE HAVE SLEPT

WE ARE SUNDERED

WE ARE CRIPPLED

WE ARE POLLUTED

WE ENDURE

WE WAIT

WE HAVE FOUND THE DREAMS AGAIN

WE WILL AWAKEN

Who is we? I think that is the old elvehn gods working through the blight. Red lyrium is blighted lyrium and it is alive. The writing in the lyrium are so similar to how ancient elves talk. “we endure” is a common thing elves say. And “we slept” can be referring to the ancient elves in Uthenera, wherever they are locked away.

So now let’s talk about Solas’ reaction to all the Dragon Gods being killed. The grey wardens wanted to go into the deep roads ahead of time and kill the last two Dragons to stop all future blight outbreaks.

“how do you know things wont get worse if you kill them all” [Paraphrase]

He responds angrily to all the dragons being killed. He is the one who locked away the old Elvehn gods. So he probably knows that the dragon souls are keys.

It all just seems so similar to how doors are opened in Dragon Age Inquisition. What with having to open doors with smaller pieces of magic. Examples being the door at redcliff for the mage’s quest, the door at the temple where time is frozen, and the doors in the temple that only open if you collect all those weird skull thingies.

So overall I think the blight has been a very long game by the old Elvehn gods to release the keys to their prison. They are eternal and have all the time in the world to wait. Solas’s prison is sturdy and they needed a long and powerful plan to get out.

But where do the souls go after they are released? Do they go straight to the Illuvian to be unlocked? Why did Mythal want the soul/key? Why did Solas want it? How does this all fit into Mythal’s revenge/justice plot?

[/spoilers]
