I definitely did not get that out of it. The romance arc helps add another layer to the character that romancing him helps you see and understand, but the rest? Not so much. His feelings were real. He wanted to be honest about it. But for reasons we - and Lavellan - couldn't know at that point in time, he had to pull away. And when you consider the truth, yeah, it's not something that one romance cut scene can adequately explore. It would have felt cheap for him to be all, "Yep, orb, Cory, Dread Wolf," and have you either gasp and chase him off or fall madly into his arms anyway. That would have been some weak writing and a very cruddy thing to do with Solas's character at that point, regardless of the stinger at the end.
And while Solas is flawed and makes bad decisions, just like the rest of us, we really don't know if he will be a villain when we see him next. He might end up like Hawke and oops another catastrophe, or he might be the direct result the world goes to **** (again?). Or he could be attempting to stop worse things from happening and that's why he had to leave to set things right. I'm not willing to find some manipulative ulterior motive to everything he was written to say and do. That weakens the character just as much, and Patrick Weekes has proven to be a far better writer than that.
Agree, I didn't take the podcast news as negative. Nor do I think Solas is the villain he is made out to be. No one who can love Lavellan like that can be infinite darkness. ![]()
Heard this song on the radio today, realized its a very good Solas/Lavellan song. *starts crying*
"Miley Cyrus - Wrecking Ball" song
Solas, you wreck me.
Sorry, don't hate me for saying this, but I cannot associate anything that comes out of Miley's mouth with Solas or Lavellan. D:
