Unrelated, but does anyone with the Deluxe edition listen to the game soundtrack while playing? It's somewhat amusing to hear Val Royeux's music while exploring the Fallow Mire, or Thedas' Love Song while fighting demons or a dragon.

I STILL can't hear that song at all without getting very upset, lol.  It's made romancing other characters very difficult.  Happy, nice love scene, the music kicks in and I am sobbing.  It's a very conflicting feeling.  That song is burned in my brain for all of eternity as the exact moment Solas shattered my heart.  I almost wish I had a Cole that could help my hurt so I can hear that song without feeling like I am going to die.

I think I'm on Team Optimism, but between the podcast and me accidentally looking through my 6k screenshots at all of the Solas/Lavellan ones (they're scattered in between all of my Inquisitors! there is no escape) and Melodies of Life randomly coming on, I am sad about Solas and Lavellan like I was when I finished the game.  I don't usually get this attached to characters or romances in games, this is... weird. The "Thedas Love Song" makes me weirdly melancholy every time I hear it, even if it's supposed to be a happy, romantic scene. ughh.

 

I should have known I was doomed when the Fade!Haven romance scene made me actually start giggling uncontrollably for at least a minute straight. I do not giggle. :|

It's probably the not knowing that's getting to people. Like I said, think Morrigan and Loghain.

 

Oh yeah I can understand that but still don't let it cloud your thoughts everybody and make you think it's doomed and that's the only option we are going to get with the couple or with Solas and the Inquisitor.

I think the physical side of whatever the Black City is, exists at the center of the planet.  Which is why it can be seen from everywhere in the Fade.  (I don't think it's Arlathan though.)  And after the magisters unlocked it like Pandora's Box, they came out of there tainted, unleashing the Blight along with them.  That's why they emerged from underground.  I wonder though if the Blight is something intrinsic to Thedas' cosmology, or if it was created.  If it was created, the main suspects are the elves and the dwarves.  I don't know if the elves created it, because it sounds like it's something they mostly avoided unless we're talking about Andruil, and it sounds like she used it as a playground rather than created it.  There's some evidence from the primeval thaig that ancient dwarves may have worshipped it (possibly the Stone?), but that might suggest they didn't create it either.  What all this does tell us is that the Blight predates the Tevinter Imperium, which means the magisters didn't create it, only released it.  While the elves may not have created it, it's possible they weaponized it, and it may even have been the rumored weapon Fen'Harel promised each side of the elven pantheon before sealing them away.

 

Another possibility I've wondered about, is if the Forgotten Ones were the leaders of elves living even deeper underground than the dwarves with the help of magic (such as the eluvians).  Maybe the Black City belonged to them, and they created and *controlled* the Blight long ago.  And that's why the Old Gods still hold sway over the darkspawn.

 

 

Tell that to the people who had to pick between Hawke and Alistair.

Since we were talking about fade things as well, does anyone one have an screenshot of the black city in Inquisition? Solas mentions it in the fade, but I never noticed it.

DO IT DO IT. I did it, not for psychology but for literature. Actually I did a series of papers talking about the nature of literature and people's involvement in it. It's not just "nowadays," you should check out what happened with Sherlock Holmes (it goes back earlier but Holmes is a popular example). The Pleasure of the Text by Roland Barthes talks about plaisir (in the simplest terms I can make it...pleasure derived from the familiar), and jouissance (in this conext: greater/worse pleasure that results from the fracturing of the familiar), and I think it'd be really interesting to look at the different DAI companions - especially Cullen/Solas - through that lens. Now I wanna write it...

That's it, I'll have to dig up different sources regarding this phenomenon etc. Maybe if I have free time, but it would be an interesting passtime between nonexistent social life and yet another run through DAI

Haha. You're probably right.  Fade-survivor will be slung over Solas' shoulder as he's riding on a griffon to take Lavellan to a lovely party in his heroic return.  In all seriousness: I could NEVER sacrifice Alistair. When he cried over the letter you get to him from the HoF I wept.

Also want to share a song, lyric doesn't fit perfectly since I know my Levallen would trace Solas to the end of world rather than waiting. But the feeling is the same.

Can post it at last after that interview, knowing that Solas cares Lavellan that much do fill some empty holes in my heart.

Now I heartily feel they are each other's angel.

I'm really nervous about what's going to happen to Solas...  I was prepared for him going all well-meaning bad guy, or even leaving Lavellan forever...  But if he does some kind of self-sacrifice or something even worse to himself in order to "fix" whatever...  I'm...  *curls in a fetal position in the corner*

 

With all those comparisons to Mordin...Let's hope he doesn't have a similar fate; with Lavellan saying "Solas, no!" as she watches him sacrifices himself, unable to convince him otherwise...

I can't sacrifice Alistair....mostly because my dalish from origins had a slight note of a threat if Inq lets him die. Which instantly went to me thinking of a HoF vs Inq showdown. Dalish fight! .....hmm....who would win.....

Luckily my Mahariel made Alistair king, so they're still "good." If being the mistress to a king who can't marry you while you both have a ticking time bomb on the Calling hanging over your shoulders is "good."

 

Is any Hawke "good" with their romance anymore? Hawke seems to either be in the stuck/dead in the Fade, or stuck/dead in Weisshaup....

 

If Solas doesn't come back to Lavellan, maybe she'll just take up a life of wandering the world with Dorian, seeing who can get the most hotties. That's the best happy ending I can come up with.

It does say "may likely die" when you hover over the choices, not "will die." Could be there's a big Fade rift in Weisshaupt fortress and there's demons and **** possessing everyone, which causes the internal war. Whoever you sacrificed runs out of the Fade rift just as your Inquisitor gets there, and whoever didn't get sacrificed is The Big Evil because s/he's possessed by whichever Top Dog demon started this mess.

Even if it's sad, I'm just happy that all the deep implications and emotions we were reading into his final romance scene were completely correct. Mr. Weekes confirmed that, and if he cried while writing it then we are definitely justified in our hearts breaking over it too!

 

It's that deep feeling in just a few scenes that makes Solas my favorite BioWare romance ever! And I'm so thankful that GDL voiced him because he did a fantastic job. Not every actor can transition to voice acting and some are terrible at it but he was brilliant!

In this playthrough, my HoF was an Amell and my Inquisitor is a mage Trevelyan.  So it would be a battle of the Circle mages who fell for ex templars

Yeah, I planned it that way because reasons.
