To be fair, it's implied that he's quite drunk at the time.
That's the stem of the problem. Losing his sobriety was absolutely jarring.
I'm sure Mr. Weekes wrote that part with a reason in mind, but I cannot understand why.

The clipping was terrible, and then it gets worse if you decline his dance and he just throws his arm around Lavellan. That move also seemed out of character, so maybe the hat made him feel like a new man. Or maybe that's what all the ancient elves wore to their balls...?
How is putting his arm around her out of character?
I know this isn't the right thread for this, but for you artists and Fenrismancers, there's art of what his tattoos look like under all that armor. Renmiri has it on her Tumbler, but some people don't follow those things so I wanted to get this out there. Source: http://mattrhodesart...ind-scenes.html
Spoiler because size
What really got me about PW interview is that... Solas is just a guy. He may be Fen'Harel, but really he's just an elf. Who is in love. I always knew that of course, but somehow i couldn't realize it, if it makes any sense. Maybe I was too fascinated about the big revelation, too busy thinking about that.
I finally understand why I love his charcter so much. It's the sweet sweet tragedy that he carries in his eyes when he looks at Lavellan and sees the woman he loves. Just that. He loves her for who she is, whoever she is, he falls deeply for her.
That made me restart again. I'd finally gotten my Lavellan's face right, gave her a cool background and I was almost done in the Hinterlands, but NO. I planned her to be too serious, stuck on her duty. No, now I just want to play as someone who can make him forget for a while, who will make him feel like he's just. another. elf.
There she is, Nehn (joy in elvish), proud of herself, talking him into wearing that stupid hat with her.

I dunno. Solas seems pretty comfortable with casual physical affection after the balcony scene. (not that we got to see much interaction after...) During the ball he laid his hand on her shoulder, wanted to dance, and would cuddle if the dance was declined (though as jello said his behavior that evening did imply that he'd consumed enough alcohol to let loose). Though, during his final scene there was all kinds of hand holding, shoulder bumping, and butt touching. He was affectionate with Flemeth who was just a friend (albeit a longtime one),too. I think his affection with them show how open he can be with people he is really close to.
FemCadash- *sighs* I love you solas!
Solas- Did you say something Inquisitor?
FemCadash- What! No! Of course not! *blushes* Sod it! Can he read minds too?
#Unrequited love
Unrequited love = anything-with-a-pulse + Vivienne. Get it? because her husband.... ok bad taste.
But I have a play through dedicated for the sole purpose of trying to romance her. Like until I am proven wrong, I firmly believe that if you ask her "Any chance we might..." a certain xxxxxxxx number of times eventually she will give in and just be like "you know what? Ok. Yeah. Fine. I love you too" and until then I will continue my Vivimance.
About Solas dumping Lavellan
Solas doesn’t believe he deserves to be happy. He believes he has to pay the price for his misdeeds and the only reason he doesn’t allow himsef to do the ultimate sacrifice is because “my people need me”So basically in his eyes he is living on borrowed time and the only reason he can justify himself being alive is to fix his misdeeds. He won’t do anything to make himself happy. And having happiness with Lavellan is a too cruel a reminder that he doesn’t deserve to be aliveWhat a gutless emo egg!
I think it's less "he feels he deserves to die/be unhappy" and more "helping the People is more important than this love affair and if he stays with Lavellan he cannot achieve his goals."
He's no coward; I think it took a lot of inner strength--and yes, bravery--to walk away from Lavellan and acknowledge to himself that there may be things more important than his personal attachments. It was, however, selfish not to express that it was a true and final farewell, and it was cruel to cut her off in the way that he did, no matter his original intentions.
As others said before, though, the downside to this is that, while he may be weak to future advances from Lavellan, it also means if he cared that much about her, was that close to telling her the truth (about who he is? What he wanted to do? What he had done? We don't know... I presume it was his identity, at the very least), that there is very little we could do to change his mind now. He was able to walk away, even though what he clearly wanted was a future with Lavellan. It's not a matter of feeling he deserved it or not, it's a matter of staying true to himself, and to his People.
Ugh. More than anything I just want him to be happy. If we're not going to get a happy resolution to the romance, fine. But Solas should be happy. I can't remember if I made this comparison earlier or not, but here:
Mordin (ME3): Possibility that Mordin gives up his life for what he believes in. Not only does he have conviction, he's happy with his decision to cure the genophage. He's made his peace with the consequences (dying), even though he still has things that he would like to do. He doesn't have any doubts that what he's doing is absolutely the right course of action. He would cure the genophage whether it was necessary to fight the Reapers or not. If you let him die and cure the genophage, he comes off as a hero and his efforts help Shep. Mordin's death is a real redemption for his past actions: he caused the genophage and he dies to right that.
Anders (DA2): Possibility that Anders gives up his life for what he believes in. He has conviction, but he's not happy about his decision. All he can think about are the consequences, and how much he will be hated for what he does. There are things he would like to do, but believes they are unattainable in the world regardless of any efforts Anders makes to achieve them. Blowing up the Chantry is a last resort because he believes he has no other options, and he hates that. No one views his actions as a good thing, and if you kill him the response is basically "good riddance". Ander's death is vengeance: he doesn't cause the situation in Kirkwall, but he is punished for the (admittedly ridiculous) actions he takes to correct it.
The Mordin arc was great, the Anders one not so much (IMO). I'd be happy if Solas' takes a route similar to the former, and very unhappy if we get Anders 2.0. I just want Solas to feel like he deserves to be happy, because he does.
What got me about Mordin's death was that he got up there, adjusted the temperatures...then just stood there. He had plenty of time to get back to the elevator and survive. ![]()

The introverted ones tend desire the most contact, but they are only comfortable giving it once they feel really close with someone. It's like opening a piece of yourself for them to see and touch.

Why he got drunk? The servants kept refilling his cup. XD Poor man didn't have a chance.

IMO, a bit of PDA is not OOC for Messere Ass Grab.
Okay... here's what I think all the vallaslin stand for. Feel free to save this for your own reference or whatever you like.
Spoiler'd because it's big. lol

I tried to reply to this and I think it got eaten. Good work. Do you have a download link? For some reason right click to save doesn't work on the new forums. Never mind, I figured it out. Thank you!

It's not like he tried to empty it in a plant or something, though. ![]()
Hey, did we miss it? 'Cause we just hit page 1800!
Pay attention folks!
Also congrats on Page 1800!
Does anyone have a link or can tell me what all the Creators' relationships were with Fen'harel. I am wondering if he and June ever had a relationship as in friendship/hate/love/etc.
Reading through past posts... I really don't understand how you can not have a happy ending with Alistair. I've played the game probably at least 7 times and it's always happy..well..except when I played a male warden, let Logan live, romanced Morrigan and made Alistair become king..he was pretty pissed off about that... but the other times. Me and Alistair lived happily ever after. I didn't even know he could leave you until I read you all talking about it. Even when I romanced Zev he was happy at the end of the game. I never made him marry Anora though..maybe that's why. Being his elven mistress wasn't so bad...because he wasn't married. I dunno..maybe I just played the game differently. I'm always so nice to everyone....but Logan must DIE!!!
Edit: I have a horrible migraine right now so I really hope this made sense..I tend to ramble a lot and misspell things.

Well he's not drunk enough to make it obvious, just enough to be a lot less buttoned-up than he usually is. And he's in love. And having fun. Possibly for the first time in thousands of years. I don't think it's out of character at all. You're just seeing happy!Solas.
If anything, I actually would have loved to see an even drunker Solas. In my ideal world, we would have had small cutscenes for each party member. It seems like the ball should have involved everyone, not just the four you bring for the mission.
You know, I understand that a kiss Solas whenever you want scene wouldn't make sense for his character. However, they could have made a let's take a walk together scene or let's read a book together on the couch. A small scene like that so that his romance doesn't feel so empty if you're doing a completionist play-through. Cass has so many scenes and she wasn't even my love interest.

Well my first play through I was an elf mage, and I didn't read spoilers or guides ahead of time. So like a fool I made him King, and then he dumped me because I wasn't a noble. And I had no clue that there was one important line of dialogue you had to take in order for him to be ok with being King and keeping you as a mistress(which I can live with to a point, it's a bit icky though). If you're a Cousland it's smooth sailing if you want him to be King. I was always ok with him being a Warden and keeping the relationship intact that way, but then in DAI I have to choose between leaving Alistair behind, or Hawke. Which for me is an impossible decision, renders the game non-playable for me. That's what's been the issue. There are ways around allllll of that stuff. But it ruins what I consider my canon DA story.
Hope your headache gets better!

I want you to know that I hear Falling Slowly everytime I read one of your post describing Solas. You are that good.
Do you write fanfics? I think you would keep him in character so well.

Maybe the elevator wasn't working anymore? Or he was worried that he'd be trapped in the elevator? Or he wanted to make sure there weren't any other old safeguards to disable? It does still suck though. I was at least happy that he seemed to have made peace with it. He's lived a good life, and curing the genophage is his last act to correct what he sees as his only big mistake. Plus you can always convince him not to sacrifice himself if Wrex is dead...
Anyone else want to visit the ruins in the Brecilian forest now that we have all our new elfy info? I'm there now and it is so super interesting. When you walk in Zev talks about the ruins looking like they were made by humans and elves. Then when you find the Arcane Warrior's phylactery thing, there's a mention that a war may have broken out by "something that killed both the humans and elves that were here," and "elves and humans both screaming and attempting to flee from some terrible presence." It also seems like apparently the ruins were for Uthenara and worshiping of the elven gods? Ah..I wish we had more information!
I wish I had a dual monitor set up so I can both play and keep up with this thread. Lots of good discussion, but you all are distracting me from my Cullen playthrough so my next Solas one won't feel so bad. D:
