I always felt a little slighted by the mistress option. I made Alistair king. I helped with his family, I saved his life, saved the world, etc. And he wasn't willing to take a stand for me? At the very least as Princess-Consort or something? The best he's going to do is accept the prejudice of the world because he's afraid of some nobles being mad that he's marrying the Hero of Ferelden? Maybe I should have let the Blight take the whole stupid kingdom. He talks about "needing an heir" but he's perfectly OK marrying someone that is in all likelihood infertile?

But the bigger issue is to get that option at all you have to "harden" him, which isn't explained anywhere in the game so it's completely possible you miss the option entirely.

I don't think I will ever like Alistair again, not after he killed Yavana in The Silent Grove. It was cold-blooded murder, just because he was "tired of being a pawn". Great excuse to start a killing spree through all Thedas.

That would be my thought too you know, all the references and stories about Fen'Harel.... but it's so different than what I would have imagined him to do.

Maybe Felassan is an ancient elf like Abalas but instead of being servants of Mythal he was a servant of Fen'Harel. But maybe someon else got to him first and was forcing him (or not? ) to help with the Eluvian thing. Maybe he didn't know Solas had woken, or maybe...well I don't know. I'm just thinking out loud.

This is why I think it might not be Solas. Abelas has vallaslin which to Solas are slave markings no matter who wears them and Solas hates slavery...and Felassan has vallaslin.

I posted this a few days back, but this is my personal theory about Felassan:

I tend to side more with Felassan being a servant of some other elven god, perhaps bound by its will to the point that even if he saw the flaws in his god's plan, he was unable to act upon it directly.

I'm not convinced though that Felassan's vassalin is real. I got the impression the whole time that it was so he could pass as Dalish, but you raise a good point.

If they are real that would mean he is someone other than Fen'Harel's servant.

I almost bet that another of those God's Solas though he locked up didn't really get locked up after all and is mad pissed.

I've seen people argue that Felassan's fascination with Fen'harel is a sign that he has been working for him all along, but personally I think it mean the exact opposite.

My interpretation is that Felassan is fascinated with the tales of Fen'harel, because Felassin desperately wants to rebel from whoever it is he himself is bound to, and the simple act of telling the stories of the Dread Wolf is as much rebellion as he is able manage until he goes too far and is killed for it.

This is my interpretation. Saying "you know she reminds me of Fen'Harel" to someone that Fen'Harel betrayed would also probably ****** them off. It's basically saying "yeah, I just helped someone that reminds me of your mortal enemy against your wishes lolz."

So for more interesting things I've found in DAO re-play. I don't really think they're connected, but the Lady of the Forest has the same black eyes and green skin as the tarot card elves:

Spoiler

It's probably just an artistic choice, but I still think it's neat. Especially since the elves are the only race that have a tarot card that looks completely different from how they look in game.

I want you to know that I hear Falling Slowly everytime I read one of your post describing Solas. You are that good.   Do you write fanfics? I think you would keep him in character so well.

Thank you!  I haven't written a ton of fanfic because I hate it when I try writing a character and they start going OOC on me. That's also why I usually don't read fanfic (though I've broken down and started reading more because of Solas). I actually really want to take a swing at writing some Solas/Lavellan, though. The ideas for fics just won't leave me alone.   For instance, I had an idea for a one-shot centering around a sort of "gift quest" that we didn't actually get in-game. Figuring out what kind of gift Solas would like, and what kind of gift Lavellan would get him seems like a fun thing to write about.

I wish I had a dual monitor set up so I can both play and keep up with this thread. Lots of good discussion, but you all are distracting me from my Cullen playthrough so my next Solas one won't feel so bad. D:

Heh. I'm currently on my laptop while playing Inquisition on my PS4. In Emprise both for grinding schematics and taking lovely pictures of Solas and Lavellan in the snow.

Sashimi and her videos! <3 It's all good, they are fun watching!

ARGUE WITH ME!

But seriously thanks. I'm starting to feel like I'm onto something. They would not put all these different codex entries in there. Show us the "in between" place. Have morrigan say there are KEYS to things.

Also with corypheus trying to accelerate the wardens killing the dragons. There has to be something....

I think you guys are definitely on to something as far as the connection between the gods and the dragons. Because the perfect lead up to that is to show a 'smaller' version of it with Corypheus.

I could see Solas having someone with vallaslin working for him if they were a former master's vallaslin and I could see Solas killing someone who betrayed him like Felassan betrayed whomever he is working for (because the datamined notes do speak of Solas's ruthlessness.) But I think Solas's anti-slavery, pro-free will principle is so strong that it's something he wouldn't compromise. I don't see him being anyone's master.

However, I do think a third party (Falon'Din like zambixi suggested, whomever killed Mythal?) is a possible suspect. Perhaps a third party did get locked up but are now attempting to escape. They could have needed the Eluvian for that. And I also like mim's theory that Felassan was trying to undermine the person he is working for.

For some reason in my head I had the feeling that Solas was once a servant of Mythal (and she was cool with him not wanting to be a slave anymore). Or maybe was once a slave and freed himself with his own power and talents. So he never had any set of slaves at all.

In my head he was born a slave then freed himself and fought his way to go status, despite being an outside (something that is noted as him always being). Which is why he hates it so much.

I also think there were two types of slaves. Ones who offered their services as an oath (Abelas) and those who were actually born into it and treated as properly. They had two different statuses in society.

I'm pulling all this out of my butt, but it seems to make sense to me.

So...the Lady of the Forest was a spirit bound to the body of a white wolf, who eventually created a corporeal form of a woman for herself and gained consciousness. She talks about being able to experience love, joy, pain, etc. She is multifaceted and represents a single idea - "the forest" - but a number of different expressions of it.

Does that seem like Cole to anyone else? I know she was bound initially, but it seems like she transcended that bond and instead of being corrupted was able to create a second manifestation of her spirit? I wonder if Solas took a nap in the Brecilian Forest and encountered her >.>

I've said before, I think Solas killed Felassan for being a traitor.  There's too much evidence pointing to it.  We know from the mages incident that he'll kill out of passion, and we know from Flemythal that he'll kill even a friend for the sake of his cause.  I don't think he's evil, he's just a very amoral sort of character. It was a bit hard for me, because I really liked Felassan (he's in my sig even), but that's what it looks like to me.

Does anyone have a link or can tell me what all the Creators' relationships were with Fen'harel. I am wondering if he and June ever had a relationship as in friendship/hate/love/etc.

We know next to nothing about June.  Even what very little the Dalish know (that he's a god of crafts) is believed to be incorrect, and a cultural reassignment since whatever he originally represented is no longer known or understood.  I suspect he is either involved with the eluvians, or just magical technology in general.  Engineering, architecture, things like that which aren't relevant in Dalish life but would have been important to an empire.

I don't think I will ever like Alistair again, not after he killed Yavana in The Silent Grove. It was cold-blooded murder, just because he was "tired of being a pawn". Great excuse to start a killing spree through all Thedas.

It made sense to me, considering he killed Yavana for the same reasons he'll execute Loghain.  It's unfortunate, especially in hindsight, but I always found his reasons understandable.  The reactions to this actually reminds me a lot of the reactions to the idea that Solas might have killed Felassan.  It doesn't fit a perfect rosy view of a character, but it isn't OOC when you really examine it.

Can't argue...too busy cursing not having a scanner....but it's okay, it's just a sketch to guide me when I go running amok in photoshop and painter. :P

Beware, it is EXTREMELY low res and iffy in quality, but hey, you can see progress and that that dress is being worked on outside of my concept sketches...

Sorry, this is a post for the last page's conversation, and darn it I will always be playing catch up with this thread. Anyway, if tea makes it difficult for Solas to enter the Fade maybe alcohol makes it easier for him. Just, have the image of Solas sleeping contently on that couch of his. An arm hangs over the side, fingers dangling above a flask.

Yeah, I would agree. There was probably a large array of slaves in the empire. Some are just going to be your bottom tier grunts that keep people fed and cleaned. Then you have servants trusted with more intricate matters. You might even have noble families pledge children to the gods almost like families would pledge sons to the priesthood back in the middle ages. There would be honor in being an upper tier servant.

Not so sure about Solas though, just because we know he was fairly arrogant and aloof in his youth. That speaks of nobility. I think he just always valued freedom. He was the renegade of the god group, perhaps even the villain.

I see where you're coming from. I don't know if I think Solas was a slave, but I could definitely see how it would make sense that he was. I suppose it depends on what happened after he got tired of his mundane village life. I do agree that there were probably two types of slaves. Abelas seems willing to be under Mythal's service and doesn't seem too broken up about leaving it when the time comes. In his diary he did talk about people being born into service and talked about the elders weeping when they entered uthenera, though, so those serving Mythal could be a mixture of both. I don't think Solas was lying when he said nobles used the vallaslin of their favorite gods to mark slaves, though.

I wonder if Solas could have been a slave to Dirthshmirth if he was one, the creature that took on the form of the gods.

This is far more likely in my estimate.

While I do want some DLC like yesterday, I also want this game to last me awhile, because the wait for another full game gets longer every time.

I expect it won't be a full four years or more though, since next generation console is already here and the engine won't be new anymore. But it'll still be several years and so as long as this one will last me will be great.

I would actually prefer smaller DLC first anyway. Fix Solas's side quest we never got and give me new hair and and an in game mirror of transformation. I'd be pretty happy with that to begin with.
