Was that what happened to the Dwemer (dwarves) on Skyrim ? Do we have a dwarven God falling in love with a mortal dwarf beauty and them leaving and living happily ever after ?
lol...not like...LOVE!! That has to be what happened! :-P

So I finally finished the game in its entirety with a romanced Solas. Heartbreaking, but so worth it. It's a good thing he's only available to female elves, because I would be incapable of resisting him otherwise.
Well, he did say the servants were quite willing to refill his glass and that the food and drink were excellent, so he was most likely a bit tipsy in that scene. I think he may even mention something similar during his dance, but I may be misremembering that. It was nice to see the more carefree, court intrigue loving Solas, though, kind of like a glimpse from his past.
What I noticed when I did the Cullen romance, is that Cullen used all the exact same animations. I'm willing to bet they just threw the same animations on all the characters, and either polishing Solas's fell through the cracks, or the figured so few people would see it that it was an except-able bug (romance option available to the least amount of players, most people will probably choose dancing)

Have you tried a second play through yet? You'd be surprised how tough it is to romance someone else after him
.
I've seen people make a new character, not an elf, and end up re-rolling another Lavellan to romance him again. I wish you luck!
Also, welcome to the thread!
pfffffft funny you should mention half nudity cos that's exactly what i had in mind xD
it came out terribly >____> i was gonna put this up on my deviantart but that's not happening now xD
Spoiler
I don't see the picture, could you, please, give a direct link?
edit: problem solved I am an idiot
moar nudity!!
((Hugs))
I empathize with you sooooo much. I'm not a single parent. But I am doing the long distance thing as well. I will be grateful for the fact that we don't have an ocean between us though. My fiance and I have been doing this going on 6 years. Normally we see each other about 2 times a year. Thank the Maker for skype! It's a tough road to be on. In the end it's worth it though, for me at least. I just wanted to say something cuz sometimes it can make things a lil less tough when you know another person is going through it too.
it does help!
I keep telling myself it can work and seeing people doing it for longer than we have helps me believe it ![]()
You are my favorite fan fic finder! ![]()
another song that makes me think of Solas...
I like to pretend that the "abandon mage children" story is told so templars are less inclined to raid Dalish camps, and that while the mage children get some training to control their magic and know how to not get possessed, they just... don't do magic. A clan needs every able member to hunt for food, tend their halla, mend clothing and make goods. It's not like you get a pass to sit around just because you can cast lightning or something. If you aren't carrying a staff, but a fishing pole, or are making a fire from kindling and flint instead of your fingers, who the heck will know what you can do otherwise?
I'm probably wrong about that in context of the actual lore, but it just makes more sense to me than chasing off mage kids or only keeping 2-3 mage born around.
Your suggestion would make much more sense than what we heard from Minaeve, Vivienne, or Dalish. I also don't understand the mentality, when you consider that the Dales had mages among their nobility, and the Dalish believe that everyone was a mage during Elvhenan, so their view of magic is meant to be a sharp contrast to how Andrastians view and treat magic.
Sashimi was looking for some naughty Solas work like that for her video...... XD
Does anyone know who drew this? I found it on Tumblr.
Thanks to the ability to change your username whenever you like on tumblr, ir-abelas-vhenan is now da-vhenan, and this is subject to change at any moment in the future. lol
Thank you!
I know we've moved away from discussing all of our feels from the PW interview. (Maybe this has been shared here already) I just stumbled across this. Maybe it's the wine I'm drinking, but I am feeling a bit verklempt. I haven't finished a romance with Solas other than the first time. So in light of everything we learned recently, I am dreading how much more difficult it's going to be when I get there again.
Anyways this person speaks about the pain of it all better than I think I could:

I'm late to the discussion, but I have a few thoughts on the topic of the Dalish and their mages.
It's likely that every clan is somewhat different in their treatment of mages. Every clan we've encountered in the games or the books have noticeable differences from each other. They have differing attitudes towards humans, city elves, and the outside world, for instance. Some are more or less accepting of city elves that come to them seeking refuge, others despise the "flat-ears" that chose to submit to living in the human world.
The Dalish have been wandering nomads for over 700 years at this point. Over the ages, each clan has developed it's own culture. The separate clans rarely, if ever, encounter each other during their travels. It makes sense that their attitudes towards what to do about extra mages would vary.
Since clans have little to no contact with each other most of the time, the Arlathvhen is when mages are traded between clans. The Arlathvhen is only held once every ten years. Children who manifest their magic in the long periods between Arlathvhens are probably more likely to be sent away. Even if a clan prefers to trade their mages, it's not always feasible.
Minaeve's clan obviously does send their extra mages away, but Lavellan has the option to say that their clan finds other ways to deal with it. What those other ways are is left open to interpretation. There are also different options when Vivienne brings up the Dalish treatment of extra mages. So in just those two interactions we can see that practices vary from clan to clan.
Edit: Vivienne is spot on when she tells Lavellan that those who value survival can't afford to be sentimental. If a Dalish mage becomes an abomination, they could wipe out their entire clan. It's just too dangerous to have more than two or three highly disciplined mages in a clan.
On the topic of companions and future DLC, I think it was a couple hundred pages back or so that one of us here in the Solas thread (speak up if you're here!) had found some DLC content in the game data...and it was titled "arishok". So it seems that at least the first DLC may concern the Qunari and the Arishok in some way...which kind of makes sense to me. On one hand, you either allied with the Qunari by letting the Chargers die, or you defied them and they lost a dreadnought in the process. Allying with Qunari is dangerous because their "government" (or Qun, or whatever? not sure what the ruling class is called) does have a desire to spread the Qun throughout Thedas and conquer everyone. Defying the Qunari is doubly dangerous because you know they're going to come after you for that eventually. In any case, it does seem that means Iron Bull is one of the companions who sticks around for a reason.
I still really believe that only the final DLC will be Solas-related, in order to set the world up for the next game. I firmly believe that us Solasmancers will not have to wait another three years between games to get some closure. You gotta keep people invested in the relationship in order to keep them around to spend money on more content...and waiting three years to address the issue is not the way to do that.
Edit: Oh top of the page. I just got my xbone so I haven't figured out how to take screencaps yet. Probs should get on that. In any case fellow eggheads:
That was me, Arishok is on the game files as da3 dlc
I have an odd little theory about the clan limitation to 3 mages.
1. I suspect that it is something only some clans stick to, as there is so much diversity among the different clans.
2. What if limiting trained mages to 3 per noble household (as the current Dalish clans are supposed to be descended from the noble families from the Dales) was a way to balance power and prevent warfare among the various Dalish nobles. During the height of Elvhen power in the Dales perhaps excess mages were assigned to court or something. This sort of arrangement could easily be corrupted into some disparate clans limiting mages to 3 per clan.
3. Or perhaps the practice is even older and dates to the corruption of the elven Gods and their desperate attempt to maintain power. I think this is less likely, as all Elvhen were supposed to have had magic at that time.
4. Finally, it could be a human manipulation to weaken the clans. A spy could be inserted into a clan (perhaps even sent to Arlathvhen) with forged ancient documents proclaiming the practice as common among the ancient Elvhen.
So it begins. Smut in picture form.
hey nice DAI mod!

I'm totally ok with this. Also, he has those sad eyebrows. Wtf Solas. y u no be happy?
I know this isn't the right thread for this, but for you artists and Fenrismancers, there's art of what his tattoos look like under all that armor. Renmiri has it on her Tumbler, but some people don't follow those things so I wanted to get this out there. Source: http://mattrhodesart...ind-scenes.html

That's a... crapload of very painful lyrium.
And we don't even see his legs. But it certainly is gorgeous. I would love full body tattoos for the Dalish like on the tarot cards.
I would so love to see Fenris come back into the story, even if not romanced. I sure hope he's in a healthier emotional place nowadays.

This has nothing to do with what you said, but why would you use a spoon and a cocktail stick on Solas?
Everyone likes eggs, but that's weird stuff to bring into the bedroom, unless you're Zevran. Ben Crosshaw is weird!
I think it's less "he feels he deserves to die/be unhappy" and more "helping the People is more important than this love affair and if he stays with Lavellan he cannot achieve his goals."

LOL, not sure if I belong on Team Optimism or Team Pessimism. I think I'll make Team Have Faith in the Writers. If they break our hearts completely or give us a happy ending I'm sure it will make good story sense and I will be satisfied. The writing team has done a great job of foreshadowing since DAO so I'm sure the lore will support whatever we get in the end, even if we don't see it coming until it hits us over the head (looks at Flemythal - I should have guessed).
And, if you don't like the resolution, there is always head canon and fan fiction.
I still suspect, Wolf Hunt DLC or no, that the Inquisitor's story isn't finished and that we will see Quizzy and Solas back in DA4 and that is where we will get our resolution.
This is what I think also. I kind of imagine the statement he made when he broke our collective hearts were sort of a twisted confession and because he never told us the truth about himself, we couldn't know. If our eyes were a mirror, then his words were from our lips in his mind:
"And I am sorry. I have distracted you from your duties." You (Lavellan) have distracted me from my duty.
It can't happen again. "It will never happen again."
Just another reason why I think I've lost all hope of joining Team Optimism now.
But, I really, really wish I could. :C
We can't give up hope yet!
Actually after the interview I kind of believed there will be a happy end.
With such strong love between Solas and Lavellan...Nothing is impossible! They deserve a happy ending!
