Hrmmmm.  It's funny, the first time in my life I ever read fan fiction was after this game.  I blame Solas.  (Please don't anyone who writes fanfic feel offended by that.  There's just never been a situation where I felt the need to seek it out.  I appreciate the effort and time you all put into what you do.)

Oh right you wanted suggestions.  I guess whatever you feel you NEED to get out.  The only thing that really makes or breaks it for me is the characterization of Solas.  He's gotta be so ridiculously hard to get right.  The fics that I've read that I've enjoyed the most have been Crystal White by Brekalor, the beautiful story that Cheerios789 did, I apologize so much for forgetting the name.  Brass_Buckle's post game story is wonderful as well.  I don't know if you've seen any of those, but that's a good indication for what I've found enjoyable.

I'm sure Mr. Weekes wrote that part with a reason in mind, but I cannot understand why.

I believe Solas was way more relaxed in his youth. A young god, court, the game and parties. Wine And so many lovely ladies.

He enjoyed it.

Maybe it was like revisiting his youth. With a very special and very very lovely lady. ;-)

(I admit I'm still not sure why people are reading it, it's sad and I've cried at least twice trying to write it.)

I am grim and fatalistic!  

In all honesty I like stories that evoke emotion.  I'm not scared of being sad.  I'm not sure what it says about me as a person but I do seem to be more drawn to the tragedies.  When it comes to video games, the super happy endings feel unrealistic a lot of the time.  Especially when it's a band of heroes over coming insurmountable odds.  Sometimes I find the sadder or more difficult stories cathartic.  Maybe that's why BioWare games seem to resonate so strongly with me.

So I had "the talk" with my fiance tonight.  He's felt for a couple weeks now that something's been off with me.

A little back story -- He HATES spoilers.  It frustrates me to no end some times, because babes let's be realistic, you're not going to have time to play this franchise.  I mean, I am still holding onto all of the pain of Shepard.  Please, can you play the ME Trilogy some time soon, so I can purge all of this ****?  I mean, Mordin, Legion, Thane,  Shepard.  I hurt.  So much.  And on top of that I have to hold onto everything for DA as well.  Which hasn't been as difficult for me until now.  Honestly I've never wanted to tell him about how much my little heart loves Alistair.  He'd give me that look.

 

And then Solas came along.  I didn't even mention his name.  Kept it as vague as possible.  Confessed how once I finished the game the world lost a little colour.  Explained how the writing and acting for Solas melded together in such a way that sometimes he was a little too real.  That statement got a reaction.  "Are you cheating on me with a video game character?"  He wasn't serious.  We had a laugh.  I then had no choice but to explain how it was embarrassing for me at first that a character was making me feel that way.  Because I have such a fulfilling relationship that has me content and happy.  But these damn pixels were breaking me to the point that carrying out every day life was difficult for almost a week.

 

But then I told him about you guys and this thread.  It's helped me immensely. Thanks Solas thread!
