It's sort of implied but not crystal-clear

Side with Janeka "I feel like...a different person":

Side with Larius "My head is clear now" "I thank you for my freedom" "My gratitude you have for my freedom":

Yes this bit. First time I played it I felt it was obvious that it was Coryfish possessing them. I was calling Hawke all kinds of idiot for just letting them go.

Hrmmm

Question...

Did you let Solas kill the mages who summoned his wisdom friend or did you stop him?

Aithne lets him kill them and would help him if she had the option to. After all if spirits really are like people, and after getting to know Cole she believes they are then Mages binding them is no different from the Tevinters enslaving the elves.

She really hates Slavers and takes the Dalish thing of never submitting really seriously. I really wanted her to be able to quote it to Coryfish when he tried to make you kneel to him at Haven but the "I will never Yield" option turned out to be some wishywashy speech about "forcing the fight for no reason"

I stop him, because it feels like a rash decision made in anger, and even though they have done something terrible, it was done in fear and desperation, without an understanding of the consequences. (I'm trying to remember if I got an approval hit for that one? I think we did, but I'm always willing to take an approval hit to stay in character for my Inquisitor.)

Personally he might regret if he kills them on spot no? People can sometime do rash stuffs when really angry, and losing a close friends might give a healthy amount of wish to kill her murderer... Still, it will not make him feel better. Just like Cole's personal quest...

I haven't told my SO quite how I feel about Solas. I'm afraid he wouldn't really understand because he just doesn't connect to stuff in that same way. But we've had multiple long talks about how involved I get with books/video games/TV shows - regardless of whether or not I'm in a weird lovey relationship with the character - and he knows that they give me weird sorts of feels. I almost always get nostalgic and sad when I finish stuff... it's hard to explain >.>

I don't think you have to explain it to us, here.  I feel like this is part of the price one pays for having a rich inner life.

Or, ya know, just being a crayzar. :P

In my main Solasmancer I let him kill them. They were just ignorant (and supremely annoying), but Solas views spirits as equals and my Lavellan sympathized. Plus, they just killed one of Solas' best friends. My Inquisitor knew that even if someone 'accidentally' killed her best friend, she'd do the same. She wasn't going to deny that to Solas. Character flaw but it works for me! : p

Also, G'd morning Solas thread.

I like this way of looking at it. I have to admit, if someone in RL killed a dear friend of mine I'd probably lose all ability to sympathize with their struggles and just want vengeance.

I played through both ways to see what happened. It doesn't seem to really matter, since the death is offscreen and the only thing it changes is Solas's approval.

I ended up stopping him. My Lavellan's main reason for doing so was that it wasn't just one stupid guy, he had two other assistants with him. And there's really no telling who was just going along with the main guy's idiot plan and who wasn't.

I also think his reaction surprised her. Usually its my Lavellan with the temper. She's used to seeing Solas more calm and collected, and to suddenly have him go on a murder spree was a different side to him. It wasn't a side of him that scared her, but it was one that she needed to know she could reasonably reign in if she had to. So I suppose there was a pragmatic angle to her actions as well.

First pt when I was shipping Cullen I stopped him.

Second pt when I was romancing Solas I let him kill them. I felt kinda bad; they were ignorant and stupid but they weren't evil. But my Lavellan would do almost anything for Solas and she's an assassin herself, so..

Oh, trust me, I know those feels. I explained it like this to my Hubz the other day...

I'm a highly-sensitive person, incredibly empathetic, the "wear my feelings on my sleeve" type. I'm of a creative mind, and prone to fits of fancy often. Raw inspiration fuels my life, and so, when I feel none, there's a level of darkness that creeps in, almost like the colors of my life shift to a dull and muddied grey.

Art brings me life. Music, painting, dance, storytelling, fills me with passion, a driving force to help me with the mundane. (Adulting is hard work!) I like to get lost in a good story, it brings me the widest range of emotions in a very intimate setting that feels fine-tailored to me. The last chapter of a book seems so bittersweet, so final, I'm not good at goodbyes. Even though that particular tale had no mention of me, the person, I still placed a part of myself there. The same is true for games I play...

Could be vain, but I generally model my main characters after myself. I like to think it's a natural tendency for most... But there's something exciting about not only imagining yourself, but SEEING yourself (even if it's a, not quite, but close enough resemblance) become involved in these bigger-than-life adventures. Also, MAGIIIICCC! Haha!

I don't know if I'm making sense... I've had 3 hours of sleep, plagued with dreams (and not the good ones either), and now I'm working on my second cup of coffee, because, why not.

EDIT: Top of page love comin' up!

(Edited again to add a little hot-n-cold Solas!) Yaaaaay variety!

I always find it incredibly difficult to express how things make me feel, or rather, to express the extent to which things affect me to others without them thinking I'm insane. Your post makes me happy <3

You sound very much like me.

woke up with the blues today...UGH that line about hardening your heart to a cutting edge makes me wanna punch something. Adding another song to the solas x lavellan playlist (thanks for putting up with me guys)

Spoiler

The line about hardening your heart at first tickled me pink because I started as a reaver, pain=power so... but my other playthrough it just hurt ;v; what a mean thing to say. But if you look at what Weekes put in saying he broke his heart too he was probably mourning as much as Levellan, it shows when you snap at him with the last option and he sounds hurt by it.

Hi everyone, me think in a very few moment I would join this thread soon since I am making a Lady Lavellan to go for this most fascinating character in DA:I :)

A quick question: is romancing Solas with a mage give a better dynamique compared to romancing him with a non-mage? For comparison Cullen's romance have a slightly different dynamique if you're a mage compared to non-mages. Is this also the case with Solas?

Thanks in advance!

There's a whole thread on this on the page currently, but to sum up what I say there- I stop him. They're ignorant and too dumb to live, but even Solas recognizes that people act out of ignorance and misunderstanding. He says this if the Inquisitor kills the demon without trying to unbind it first. He's just too angry to extend the same mercy to the mages.

I also just love the way AWR says his name, and it only takes that one word to stop him. He doesn't even argue. That tells me he was acting out of emotion and not reasoning- going against his own usual M.O.

When we discussed his Myers Briggs type, this was the big indicator to me that he's a T vs an F. He isn't interested in mitigating circumstances, and when he's stressed, he acts out of his weakest trait- extraverted feeling. That's why it seems so shocking. He's a person who feels very deeply but you rarely see it.

Well, killing those guys will not bring Solas' friend back, so doing so is basically useless (though revenge in general is pretty useless...). Besides, there is something awesome in how Lav just mutters his name quietly and he backs down instantly.

I stopped him on my first playthrough, and didn't interfere on my second (where I am romancing him). I think it is a pity that we cannot bring it up at a later point though.

So, I got this little canon in my head that in an Assquisitor run, if Cole is recruited then one of the major reason Solas stays after getting punched in the face is to protect Cole from what he knows the Inquisitor could put him through if left unchecked. Good thing Varric and Solas are there to offer good guidance for him.

Solas could easily end up respecting the companions (Cole, Cass, Varric, Tal-Vashoth Bull, etc.) more then the Inquisitor him/herself.

Totally! Now that I've thought about it.. it seems kind of ridiculous that they didn't have a conversation about it.

I did. Just like, if someone killed Hawke, no matter out of what stupid reason, will my Lavellan stop Varric avenging her?

If someone murder Felix, will I try to stop Dorian kill the murders?

I can't have it handle differently just because Solas's friend is not a man but a spirit -- that makes me feel I'm as arrogant and ignorant as those mages.

Maybe I should post this in the Abelas thread instead, but I had the strangest dream last night.  (No, not one of those.)

I was visiting the seashore and suddenly a fairly famous psychologist arrived (I've no idea who she was) and decided to create a support group.  And then Abelas walked in and joined the support group, and I left.

Then I came back a few months later and everyone was all happy because Abelas had finally been able to tell the group one of his war stories and he was grinning from ear to ear.

WTF?  Thanks, rhodiola supplement before bedtime.

I stopped him from killing them. They were idiots, but I didn't think they deserved a firey death. And I usually play the kind, compassionate character so, yeah. :P

Edited to add: I did let Solas kill them on my Trevelyan playthrough though. ^__^;

I drew a bunch of Sollavellan fanarts... then saw that these were a bit (ok... maybe a lot)... more... uh... NSFW... than my usual works.

I'm too embarrassed to post them on my usual tumblr account. They are still classy... nothing too crude about them since I dislike in your face, crude erotic arts. Still... this is a far departure from my usual pieces...

I'm wondering if I should make a separate account for uh... them less than safely presentable in workplace works...

Oooh! I'd love to see some NSFW Solavellan fanarts. (I'm not a perv, I swear!)

I'm at work on my phone and can't watch videos...what's said?

Cole says Solas doesn't need to be sad. And that Solas can find happiness in his own way. Solas pretty much says no.

Then Colas says they wont be gone so long as Solas does not forget "them". And he can remember them and also "let them go"

And coles says "you didn't do it to be right. you did it to save them."

And you can ask what cole is talking about and Solas says "A mistake. One of many made by a much younger elf who was certain he knew everything"

Cole replies "you we're wrong, though"

Solas "thank you, cole"

I think it's this one:

Cole: You don't need to envy me, Solas. You can find happiness in your own way.
Solas: I apologize for disturbing you, Cole. I am not a spirit, and sometimes it is hard to remember such simple truths.
Cole: They are not gone so long as you remember them.
Solas: I know.
Cole: But you could let them go.
Solas: I know that as well.
Cole: You didn't do it to be right. You did it to save them.
Inquisitor: Solas, what is Cole talking about?
Solas: A mistake. One of many made by a much younger elf who was certain he knew everything.
Cole: You weren't wrong, though.
Solas: Thank you, Cole.

Well this account just got revived!  I was pointed here after my pointed eared Inquisitor got her heart ripped out by a wolfishly dashing mage.

I don't want to re-tread anything, and I have read most fan theories to this point.  My main question now is: Did Solas truly (incidentally auto correct tried to put this as truelove) end it? Or will he risk involvement with the Inquisitor now that the main threat has passed.

We do not know, and that is what is slowly sapping every drop of life from us.
