Did the Veil exist during times of Arlathan? Could its creation be a "betrayal of the world"? Or... I dunno. We know so little. *sigh*

Unfortunately, there's evidence both for it and against it. We know that Solas seems to remember a time without the veil. And we know that magic was a lot more powerful back in the days of Arlathan. But then you also have the ancient elven artifacts that strengthen the veil, and the dreamer mages. [Although I suppose its possible that you could have dreamer mages without the veil.]

As for the location of the statue- in game, the end scene takes place in the crossroads. But its hard to say if they intend it to be in the crossroads, or if they just built it there for convenience sake.

I do agree though- I think Mythal's death may have sparked Fen'Harel's actions in sealing away the other gods. No real proof to that, just the feeling I get.

I think it didn't, just from the way Solas spoke about spirits roaming freely. There is a tone to his voice when he is close to speaking the truth - he becomes very earnest, then catches himself and reels back.

Goddamnit, GDL did such a good job on him.

Or, perhaps he has been in the Fade so long, it could be his own desire.

Was it- was it like legend of korra kind of roaming spirit?

On the note of betrayal- we do know that Solas personifies betrayal as a she. Although I tend to think he wasn't speaking of a specific person in that scene, there's always the possibility that it was a female who betrayed Mythal/the elven gods. Perhaps Andruil?

*snorts* Could be. I honestly haven't watched the show, lost track, but I know what happens.

Omg, now I want spirit bunnies. 8D

Yes. I think it was either andruil or Ghilan'nain.

This has probably been talked about before but...

QVEbcBj.png

Where is this supposed to be? it's not anywhere else in the game and it has both their statues in it. Was it their shared elluvian? I feel like this confirms that they were like BFF.

I like the idea that Mythal and Solas were/are best friends. :)

[Images of mythal and fen'harel doing best friend stuff enter my mind]

It also confirms my idea that mythal being killed was the catalyst for Fen'Harel to put his foot down and do all the stuff to stop slavery and the wars.

That takes place in the Crossroads. Ladyinsanity did a stream one day and in that stream, she used the flycam and we saw the entirety of the area, including that location. She had used flycam in the epilogue to know the surrounding features of the area. There were lots of Dread Wolf statues further beyond, and we also saw Merrill's eluvian somewhere in there. It was pretty cool.

"We were all betrayed"...Means the betrayal was personal to her, but also not just something that hit her alone. Could very well mean that she was acting as a barrier to keep the rest in line from doing something that would have wrecked things. Perhaps it was the raising of the veil. That it was never meant to happen. She was holding to keep them from doing it. For whatever reason. But who would speak against Mythal? Well, it would make sense if Elgar made the order to go against her. And that someone else's knife did the killing. Which would have been a huge sacrifice to create something as massive as the veil or using the veil to pull Arlathan away from the world. Perhaps they thought they were saving it. Even if it meant destroying the rest of the world and cutting it off from spirits and messing up magic. It would also have made it sort of poetic for Fen'Harel to use it to bind all of them to their mirrors or into the veil.

Just a theory...

Yeah, wish I had it on PC/had a gaming PC to begin with. It was REALLY mindblowing to everyone. She uploaded a part of it on YT, and I know in her broadcasts she was doing her Dorian romance at the time and she did it when the Morrigan + eluvian scene happened.

It could be that the veil was put into place [with each of the elven gods having keys to pass between it easily] as a way to keep hold of power. If other elven mages, such as Ghilan'nain, were getting enough power to rival them...then, the easiest fix is to throw up a wall that only they could pass through.

Here's what I think re: the Veil. The Fade and the real world have always been physically separate. Solas seems surprised/amazed to be physically in the Veil if you bring him along for Here Lies the Abyss - as if he has not been there before. It seems like the Fade - or something like it - existed since before the fall of Arlathan since the Crossroads are created as a place very near to the Fade. Why would the eluvians be necessary at all if someone could walk through the Fade itself, since doing that would negate distance and time anyway? But I think the perceived difference between the RW and the Fade was very slim. I think it was possible for spirits to come from the Fade without the difficulty that seems to be there today, and I think that the elves were able to manipulate the real world in ways that the current people of Thedas could not dream of. Solas has a banter with Viv about how her conception of magic cripples her abilities. She believes magic works in one way and so it does, but believing that it can work in other ways would mean she could do more with her powers.

I just really like the idea that the Veil isn't like a physical thing. Like it's a side-effect of something that influences the Fade or the Real World... not really sure what I'm getting at.

In my main Solasmancer I let him kill them. They were just ignorant (and supremely annoying), but Solas views spirits as equals and my Lavellan sympathized. Plus, they just killed one of Solas' best friends. My Inquisitor knew that even if someone 'accidentally' killed her best friend, she'd do the same. She wasn't going to deny that to Solas. Character flaw but it works for me! : p

Also, G'd morning Solas thread.

Killed them.

Because, frankly, they essentially enslaved, tortured, corrupted and then forced an innocent to murder for them... then lied about it. Then begged for their lives claiming ignorance.

I think of it this way: Who else will they hurt? What if those had been kids they'd done that to? Or someone's mother or grandpa or something?

Nothing makes that utilization of anyone or anything right.

Well, we do know that spirits can change into demons if one expects them to... could the Veil be the result of something similar? Like, the world before used to be perceptive to people's feelings/emotions/intentions, and when they started unconsciously/consciously fearing/restricting magic/spirits, the world changed and the Veil appeared?

Edit: top of the page AGAIN. But I only have bad quality screens with russian subs to boot. :P

...ugh, that's some crazy stuff I came up with XD

Yeeeeeesssss. I think "demons" have been around forever - Solas talks about "Fear" and "Desire" being some of the oldest spirits - but yes. I think the Veil came about because people started trying to confine the world to one type of thing rather than let it be malleable. Like whatever the Seekers do but on a massive scale.

I tend to follow this line of thought, built off several conversations and a bit of reading:

Fen'harel was one of the Elvhen. So were those referred to as 'gods' now days. However, what would distinguish magical immortal royalty from a god? I think they were just the nobility of a time when magic took centuries to weave.

There were no roads because of the network of eluvians...and some of that 'royalty' held cities in places OTHER than the world we know, because the eluvians could travel across such barriers.

Fen'harel rebelled to free the people (Viva la revolution) ... and his means of doing so was to cut off transportation, this actually trapped the people in their respective cities because ...no roads...and with no eluvians, no way in or out.

It's possible the way we KNOW the fade now was a consequence of this, but not, perhaps, the fact that the fade may have always existed in some form.

Perhaps it was his intent, not to free the enslaved elves, but to free the enslaved beings we now call spirits? There are far more questions than these. But these are the immediate thoughts I've pondered for my own happy writing. ;} And also for when I was constructing my DA RPG campaign for friends.
