On another note....holy cow. Have you guys seen this? (I'm sure you have)

That guy needs to finish the mod, Solas may have to pry the Vallaslin off Lavellan's cold, dead corpse.....O.O

Right? And add in the hair mods.  Gah, I think I'll have to keep Quizzy for myself.  Sorry Solas.

SAME. I promise to use my likes with better discretion bot mods. Please give them back so I can like all these comments? T.T

If there is one thing I know about dudes, it's that they cannot escape the inevitable pull of where their boner wants to take them. Kingdoms rise and fall. Oceans fill and burn away. Power comes and goes.

But swiggity swoo, Solas is coming for that Lavellan booty.

Every time. I will say this every time I write a post, in this thread.

I. Am. Not. Caught. Up. :pinched:

Having that out of the way, I felt the desire to post in regards to some comments being made. Posts referring to how they/we/one feels towards these pixelated characters, and the attempt to explain to others "not in the know". I wrote a post on a private thread, a while back, and shared a video. This video was actually introduced to me, in one of the Lobby threads.

Sorry for the copy/paste, but was too lazy to rewrite everything.

So a while back, someone started a thread in the off-topic section, basically asking if you "cared" about video game characters and why. The OP included in his/her top post, a YT video relating specifically to this topic. It is short, but so exacting on why many of us gather in such fan-threads. When telling friends and love ones (if you are choosing to), that you are emotional about a video game character, this might be helpful. Perhaps. ;)

In the video, I love that they really focused on the aspects of "agency" and "contingency". Two things that - on occasion - may have been overlooked, in a few BW games. Or at least in regards to certain characters. Hopefully, these aspects are considered, when continuing Solas' storyline.

Needless to say, here is the video in question.

Doesn't Sera's card have a similar looking bow, btw?

Yeah we were talkin' about that theory yesterday. I think Sera is connected somehow to Andruil, either directly or as just characterization-wise.

Everything's connected to the elves! So everything's connect to Solas right?

Lol imagine if they come out with a character customization dlc with more hair options. Solas will come back to all his Lavellan's with new epic hair-dos. He won't be able to resist lol!

I just read that theory. So if that is true and I'm completely making up an alternate universe in my head....

Maybe andruil's key is inside Sera. Like how I said the keys go free after the archdemons are killed for good. They possess people the same way mythal possesses people.

I also think this might be the reason why sera is so terrified of ancient gods being real. Because I think something about it terrifies in her in a way that torments her on a regular basis. I assume this is probably from a much more mundane event like being hurt by mages. But if andruil is trying to control her, and Sera is resisting, that might be why. Like Sera is very adamant about saying that religion is "crazy". Maybe she keeps telling herself that the dreams and voices she hears are her being "crazy" and it's the only way she can deal.

But this is all assuming that everything made up is true. Which odds are most of anything I have come up with and other people have come up with are NOT true.

Ahh "contingency" I'm so glad we have a name for that now. My anxiety for Solas' character rests on that. Will our actions affect what he's going to do or will it all be for naught? Will the effects make sense or will they seem hand-wavey? So much anxiety x.X

It's not just video game characters. It's happened with movies or books.

But book/movie characters lack the "contingency" aspect. So in this context it's not 100% the same.

Of course it does. ;)

And the video does point to that concept. Video game characters becoming more of an emotional investment though, is still a bit new. And this video focuses on that, primarily.

Once someone asked Gaider on Tumblr how precisely fans managed to guess the actual ancient history of Thedas, and he says that most are wrong, but there are some that are spot on, but then he says that as he reads the theories further, they become more and more inacuarate.

Did you? I just skim though for pictures on pages I missed sleeping.  XD

Yup!  Hooray for quotes! <3

Oh, trust me, I know those feels.  I explained it like this to my Hubz the other day...

I'm a highly-sensitive person, incredibly empathetic, the "wear my feelings on my sleeve" type.  I'm of a creative mind, and prone to fits of fancy often.  Raw inspiration fuels my life, and so, when I feel none, there's a level of darkness that creeps in, almost like the colors of my life shift to a dull and muddied grey.

Art brings me life.  Music, painting, dance, storytelling, fills me with passion, a driving force to help me with the mundane.  (Adulting is hard work!)  I like to get lost in a good story, it brings me the widest range of emotions in a very intimate setting that feels fine-tailored to me.  The last chapter of a book seems so bittersweet, so final, I'm not good at goodbyes.  Even though that particular tale had no mention of me, the person, I still placed a part of myself there.  The same is true for games I play...

Could be vain, but I generally model my main characters after myself.  I like to think it's a natural tendency for most... But there's something exciting about not only imagining yourself, but SEEING yourself (even if it's a, not quite, but close enough resemblance) become involved in these bigger-than-life adventures.  Also, MAGIIIICCC!  Haha!

I don't know if I'm making sense... I've had 3 hours of sleep, plagued with dreams (and not the good ones either), and now I'm working on my second cup of coffee, because, why not.

I also think this might be the reason why sera is so terrified of ancient gods being real. Because I think something about it terrifies in her in a way that torments her on a regular basis.

I find comparing Solas/Sera to be really interesting because I think they both have a similar problem, or it at least seems like they do.

Sera chooses simplicity, a world where magic is "wrong" and the elves are "wrong", etc. But she does so in such a way as to reject those things completely. She doesn't understand both sides and then come to the decision that one is better, she just pretends one if false and bad and that the ONLY decision is to choose the other. When confronted with another view, she completely rejects it, and tries to impose her viewpoint on the other person instead.

Solas chooses the past, and wants to restore what was lost. But he does so without really consulting or understanding the people living in the present. He comes to the decision that the past is better, and pretends that the current situation is Wrong and that is ONLY option is to fix his previous mistakes alone without involving the people that are actually going to be affected. You cannot confront him because he won't even admit that another person could possibly understand the situation.

Now, the end of the reasoning line for both Sera and Solas can be valid. If Sera wants to say that it's better if everyone gets along, that "us v. them" is bad, and that the elven culture is not valuable then those are all 100% great opinions for her. If Solas wants to say bringing back the past is better it might very well be (we don't know because he doesn't share his reasoning). But the way they come to those conclusions is deeply flawed, because they do so by rejecting the other opinion completely.

So...if Sera is connected to Andruil, I think it would be really interesting for her to have to accept that elven culture is real, and then to still reject it. For her to acknowledge that it's real and still not want to participate in it would make her arguments against Solas' point of view a lot stronger, I think. Like how the Quiz can say that the vallaslin have been re-appropriated so she wants to keep them *shrug*. Then maybe we would get to see Solas' POV shaken up a little more too.

EDIT TL;DR: Sera deals with challenges to her beliefs by putting her fingers in her ears and saying "lalalala". Solas deals with challenges to his beliefs by rolling his eyes and saying "you just wouldn't understand". They are both like teenagers not confronting the other side of the argument and I hope they have to do so in the future.

The only way I'll be cool with Sera turning out to be Anduril is if she has amnesia, and once she remembers, she hates herself.

And then my Lavellan will laugh in her face.

Otherwise, I don't need anyone else to suddenly turn out to be a hidden elven god. Solas and Flemeth are enough, thank you.

Just another thought on the Veil.

Maybe it was some kind of a failsafe mechanism, to keep something in the Fade at bay? Like the Blight? In this case building the Veil up was a necessity.

I like the thought of her having the blood of Andruil, but I can't think of a way where revealing her as Andruil would make sense and not come off as sort of out of left field. Solas worked perfectly, Flemeth worked about as well as it ever was going to. But Sera?
