I like this line a lot. Not just in the tactical sense, but its also the way a wolf would hunt.

I'd love to see Solas really let loose as Fen'Harel. I want to see him play the game/wage a war/bring down empires. So. damn. sexy. Then he comes home to Skyhold and Lavellan.

SOLAS: Vhenan, I must finish these orders for the scouts in Orlais.

LAVELLAN: Orlaise can wait ma lath, the Wolf Queen demands kisses.

WuYscXu.gif

I have so many wolf .gifs now I have to keep finding excuses to use them xD

I'm pretty sure the ONLY concrete clue the quiz elf would have is:  Abelas' use of language for her (He calls her Shemlen), and then for Solas (He groups Solas in with the Elvhen). It's subtle and I ALMOST mistook the 'shemlen' as being a referral to Morrigan. I had to watch it twice.

But otherwise, the other signs mean nothing because Solas has the reasoning of exploring the fade for anything else he seems to know. ;}

Was that confirmed to be a mistake? I thought someone asked if that was intentional and it wasn't clear.

Hell yeah. But I'd want my Lavellan to be by his side, not sitting at Skyhold waiting.  :D

I imagine she's doing her own thing. He'll probably want to keep her away from the direct limelight because it would draw to much attention to their cause. She's so prolific that she's not really the best choice for those sorts of tactics. If she stays apart from them, she can use the weight of the Inquisition to convince the nobility that she's a trusted figure all while moving them around the chess board.. Then Solas can frustrate them and keep them desperate so they play into her hands.

They'd make a great team

Well what we know for certain of the eluvians:

  1. While some were destroyed, many just inexplicably stopped working
  2. They can be tainted and transfer the blight
  3. They were used instead of roads during the time of Elvhenan
  4. They don't just lead to places in Thedas *coughcoughlockedawaygodscough*
  5. While they've been used since, even the working eluvians aren't usually fully functional.

He does hear the mages out, it's just before you encounter the spirit. They say that they bound the demon because they were afraid of bandits and are pretty adamant that the Wisdom Spirit was always a demon and that Solas doesn't know what he's talking about by saying otherwise. Their stance is pretty clear. It's useless to speculate if he would have reacted differently if they'd actually been apologetic, but I think he understood their perspective well enough.

The dialogue with Sera is pretty interesting, especially this part:

  • Solas: Some of your forces, valuable until now, have no interests beyond creating disruption. Chaos for its own sake. They must be repositioned where they can do no harm, or removed if necessary. You replace them with organizers willing to build a new system and carry out the ugly work that must be done.

He says they need to be removed "if necessary," but that is not his first decision. He can be calculating and ruthless, but violence is not his default solution to those problems. TME spoilers:

I hadn't really considered how Solas reacted before freeing his friend, but you're right that he did let them talk. Something else I didn't consider is how easy it is to keep Solas from killing the mages. All it took was a gentle call of his name to get him to back down even though he did disapprove. It does relieve me when someone points out that violence and ruthlessness aren't his first resort.

I agree with LliiraAnna, though...I would rather be by his side when he's doing his thing. We could topple Tevinter and free the slaves together. Dorian could help with reconstruction. Cuddles would be welcome later, though.

Well, if you're into smut that will make you faint, this fanfic focuses on what young solas was like (he shows up during the game time frame)... it's... like... uh... Well I think the young one is hilariously written as an upstart. Hahahahaha also... I don't usually read romance at all, so it totally shocked me.

It is def. NOT SAFE for work though (NSFW) and it also has some very liberal intimate things... http://archiveofouro...hapters/6479051

But it's fun if you already read romance or are pretty open.

I'm pretty sure being able to enter the crossroads or a single eluvian is very distinctly not the same as the network itself. Doesn't Morrigan actually comment on that? Both in explaining how eluvians need keys, and how some may have been destroyed?

This isn't true. The Elves intentionally shutdown the network because of civil war within the empire. This is revealed both in TME and by Morrigan in DAI (but only if she does not have Kieran and drank from the Well). It was previously thought that the system collapsed after the fall of Arlathan, but they were closed long before the fall and it was 100% intentional (and almost simultaneous. A lot of people were trapped).

"During the fall of Arlathan, many Eluvians were destroyed, while those that survived the conflict seemingly stopped functioning or became corrupted, capable of trasmittingDarkspawn taint."

I wish I had quick access to my world of Thedas and RPG book, I'd crosscheck the wiki if I could. However, we know lyrium can also be tainted. So this is interesting to me.

I just finished reading TME recently as well. Oh man... Felassan.  :( I knew what was coming from reading the speculation thrown around in the thread, but I hadn't expected to like him as much as I did.

I've been moping to my little sister about Solas. She isn't a hardcore Dragon Age fan (yet) but she indulged me. I let her watch all the romance scenes, and even she got sad! I did tell her about the interview and the information we got about Solas's intention of "telling his secret" when he brought Lavellan to the pond, and I swear to the Creators, she said to me, "Damn, he has the willpower of a GOD to walk away!" and I was sitting there just kinda going :| don't react don't spoil it for her.

I think it might be that there is lyrium in the Eluvians or something. We know lyrium is alive because it can be blighted and it is used to enchant things. I wouldn't be surprised if the inanimate objects that have been tainted have something living like lyrium in them (especially since enchanted/magical items seem to be what gets the taint).

My interpretation is that it was intentional. Shemlen literally means "quick children".  The Dalish use it to refer to humans, but as we learn throughout the game, the Dalish got a lot wrong. The Ancient Elves may use the term shemlen for anyone that isn't immortal.

In the eyes of an Ancient Elf, Lavellan would be a shemlen. She's not immortal. She's not one of his people. She's an outsider. Abelas makes that pretty clear. Solas will also show this opinion to some extent depending on the PC choices and dialogue options. He does/did not consider modern elves to be his people.

It's deliciously ironic to hear a Dalish Inquisitor referred to as shemlen. As far as Abelas is concerned, Lavellan is no more one of The People than a human would be. It's also a big hint that Abelas refers to Lavellan as a shemlen while recognizing Solas as elvhen. It's a clue to his identity that a non-Dalish Quizzy misses out on.

Maybe the eluvians were made of lyrium, or with help of lyrium. I never really thought about it earlier, for some reason.

Yeah, so maybe they're kind of like Lyrium? Or made out of Lyrium?  And if the Warden ends up learning how to cure the taint, maybe they can fix the blighted eluvians, too?  Maybe that's why Morrigan goes west, to team up with the Warden? *pure speculation*

Someone else brought this up, too.

For clarification: my comment came from the wiki, and was not meant to argue the time frame for when the shutdown happened - more to address the fact that they HAD been shut down. Since Morrigan went to the crossroads and still couldn't get them to work, I would say the shutdown goes beyond just being able to get there.

The 'inexplicable' was just meant as 'details I couldn't really confirm' (don't have my books to check right now). I just know they got shut down.

I'm not sure what TME stands for in the forum? I'm new. ;}

As far as Morrigan goes, Solas ends up correcting her several times. Her understanding of history is incorrect. One of the things I like most about the world they're developing is that the lore itself is imperfect. I think while this gives the writers some freedom to surprise us and not be so stringent on things, it also makes it more realistic (like a game of telephone - much like real life legends) and also leaves more room for mystery and discovery. I'd probably be more inclined to check a first hand experience from a character stand point, one of the novels, or the history/rpg book.
