Weekes already revealed one of his characters today ... as much as i hope to get Solas .. i think we might not get it today

Oh I hope he's a romance. The awesome voice! And I want an intellectual LI and not have the really, really intelligent and focused characters being forever unromanceable.  I really hope Solas isn't just Dragon Age Mordin. That would be.....disappointing.

That doesn't make sense, though. Qunari Inquisitor was born outside of the Qun, which seems to be what Solas is actually against.

 

Honestly, race-gating him would seem to go against his description thus far. I'd romance him still but I wouldn't be too happy.

Qunari Inquisitor is Vashoth though.  Not part of the Qun.  So why would he be against a qunari who doesn't follow that sort of philosophy?

I'd be very happy with Bull being un-gated if it wasn't for what it suggested of Solas. If he's a LI.

 

It also worries me that Weekes is so focused on Bull at this panel. Makes me think the worst for his other character.

If it is Varric, it would be an effort to distance myself from him with my perception of "Hawke" because they were best friends and it would have been odd for my Hawke to consider Varric like that. I guess much like the idea of having Alistair or Fenris or Zevran back and romancing them again. I could make a character for that, sure, but... would be a bit immersion breaking for me as the player even if it's something my character would be all for.

Agreed. I can't imagine him racegated and if the last companion LI is, I'm imagining that it's going to be Varric...

 

But I'm still REALLY REALLY Praying and wishing and hoping that Solas is an unrace-gated LI...

Oh god don't say that. Funny, I would be open to ANY three-way relationship except with those two. It would just feel wrong.

Not surprised or disappointed, I expect Solas to be awesome, LI or not. And if characters are race gated for story reasons, then it is very possible that Cass, Sera or Dorian may have preferences. Maybe Cullen, although I think it is less likely in his case. And, Solas could be race gated, open minded doesn't necessarily mean he is equally attracted to all races. I expect Vivienne will be a LI and race gated, although I could be wrong. Can't wait to play, no matter who is LI or not.

Yupp, I am going to be seriously disappointed if Solas is not an LI. I've kind of thought for a while that if he wasn't they'd simply have said as much. But with IB not being racegated and only one companion LI spot left...:-/ *fan tears*

 

Well, we have two companion spots left (Sheryl clarified that it was 8 romances with companions/advisers).

 

But Solas' best claim  to a spot was as the bi, ungated male. With Iron Bull in that space, and with Patrick being so invested in him as pan, it seems unlikely that Solas is bi and given Solas' interview, I doubt he'd be race gated. 

 

My guess is that Vivienne and Varric will be the last two, both straight and both only into their own races. 

 

Solas will just have to assume his place in the Mordin Solus Memorial Pantheon of Platonic Love, population: Sagacious Zu, every (non-Asari/Traynor) woman in Mass Effect, Kira Carsen, Gault Rennow, and Risha.

Yeah, I would prefer Solas because he is not a returning character and he would mean my Dalish first playthrough won't have to be celibate.

 

But, the only one it makes sense to race-gate is Varric... so I'm thinking the final male will be Varric.  Don't be surprised if that's who it is.  Lots of people have drooled over Varric, and lots wanted a dwarf romance.

 

I would find Varric acceptable, but disappointing for two reasons:  First, he will always love Bianca first and best (the woman, not the crossbow), and this seems to be the type of romance straight ladies always get--a man who's still in love with someone else he can't have anymore (due to death or breakups or other reasons).  Second, we already have Cullen as a returning-character-LI.  Would prefer the others to all be new and fresh.

 

But hey, it would mean for those male fans out there that Varric is probably bisexual.  And dwarf lovers could rejoice.  I rarely play dwarves, so... even though I thought Varric was completely awesome in DA2 and tended to always have him with me, well... I probably still won't romance him.

Honestly you guys, I've been reading this thread and feeling almost too depressed to comment   I can't believe we're almost at the point of no hope left.  Without Solas or Cassandra, and if Cullen and IB/Blackwall are the only two straight/bi options, my femquiz is going to be one single pringle wishing she could mingle

I don't want another romance like Thane's arc .. No more LI deaths .. Blackwall seems to be near his Calling ..

If Viv is a romance, it's possible she and Cullen are the race-gated. Cullen being race-gated would make more sense than a lot of them, considering his past biases.

 

But my hope is sinking like a stone, unfortunately.

Especially for those of us who aren't into one or both of them.  I'm okay with Varric, but Cullen's anti-mage stance put me off from him forever, since I mostly play mages and sometimes rogues.  I don't enjoy warriors as much.  Iron Bull isn't my type, so that...leaves just Varric.  And he's probably going to be gated to dwarf-only or maybe dwarves-and-elves or something.  If he's not into humans, I have a hard time seeing him get hot for a qunari.
