Oh my god. Heart cleanly broken once more. That affirmation of my speculations on Solas in that moment... Just... I can't. The tears have come and the words have gone. Time to listen to depressing songs and watch my Solavellan scenes over and over again. Luckily, I still have ice cream in the freezer.

 

And here my husband thought he wouldn't have to hear about Solas anymore. Tsk tsk...

Not surprising.  Solas is SUPER PISSED about the Wardens and their plan.  He disapproved when I forgave them and I was like, "Suck it, they deserve a second chance."  I mean, I get it, Solas likes thoughtful, elegant solutions, not half-assed, panic-fueled shenanigans, but it's totally hypocritical of him to take a "the ends justify the means" stance when it comes to himself, while deploring it in everyone else.  Honestly, I think he's not so disturbed by what the Wardens /actually/ intended so much as he's alarmed and angry at how close they came to interfering w/ his own plans.

I get the feeling that Solas is so critical of others because of what he's done in the name of helping his people. He's got Walter Bishop-level guilt. He sealed away a cruel pantheon of gods away only to have his civilization collapse, and then his mistake with the Orb nearly destroyed our world and the Fade.

One thing I've been thinking on is how Patrick Weekes mentioned that Solas is "dedicated to finding the truth". He has a statue (or the Dread Wolf does) inside of the Temple of Mythal, which considering that she's the goddess of justice isn't the kind of place where one would expect to find a representation of a trickster god and Flemythal calls him "old friend". What if Fen'Harrel acted as a kind of soothsayer or for irony's sake, a Seeker of Truth for Mythal?

Truth and Justice are related concepts, and what better way to figure out what's in someone's head than by being able to traipse around the realm of thoughts and dreams? Dread Wolf would be a pretty fitting title for someone who hunts down those who lie to Mythal.
