Guys, I feel optimistic about the future of dragon age. Yes, this game has some problems and it's not perfect, but it's clear that they are going back to making games that take a lot of time and effort instead of the 2 year DA2 development period. I think now that they are used to the frostbite engine and have a bunch of plot + resources in place, they can really spend their time on making a perfect game. It's going to be years from now, but I'm excited for DA4. I am imagining a big and beautiful world like the one we have in DAI, a longer core story that is better integrated with the world, and better pc controls now that they don't have to worry about the first gen console folks. I also imagine lots of Solas (and hopefully Lavellan next to him).

Never really thought about the parallel of them pulling each other back before. I tend to think of it in terms of Solas trying to walk away. This is beautiful.

I am constantly in awe of how good the animation and cinematic team are. They had to plan this all out in detail, not just the finer points like arm and hand and hip positions and movements.. but they also had to know what the scene was about, how to convey the emotions of it, on top of the essence of the characters themselves (Solas's general posture is very unique).. just

You know, looking back, isn't it interesting how Bioware didn't really give Solas much focus on these trailers? For VERY obvious reasons of course.  ;)

I mean in terms of companions, they always placed big prominence on Cassandra, Varric, Iron Bull, and Vivienne in the trailers that it just makes me so amused now that the unassuming bald elf turned out to be the character with the biggest role in the story.  :P

Viv was the first new companion revealed, wasn't she?  She was shown in the early Crestwood demo (very annoyed they took out the 'village or the Keep' mission from that...) so a lot of people assumed that Viv would be first mage.  It was only a short while before the release of the game that we realised that Solas was the first mage we got (due to one of the trailers showing That Hand Grab scene and a screenshot showing Solas' character screen with him at low level).

So much optimism this morning! I say at least two hours before we descend into bitter tears of pessimism again.

I'm already pessimistic but I wouldn't have developed my awesome humor without it. Making light of things is my favorite activity. You think of the worst thing that could happen and when it happens, it's never as bad as you thought it would be so you feel content with the result. If there is ever a worst case when it does happen, there will be no surprises.

How do optimists react to situations that aren't as they hoped? I feel it happens pretty often and they are more likely to feel disappointment.

Well aside from the context of this video game, optimism is good for taking actions and risks.

I would argue that you don't need a pessimist to be prepared for anything. I consider myself an optimist! I just don't worry about it. I'm happy with any outcome. And even if my expectations aren't met- eh, that's life. You move on. Or you make a long post about it on a forum speculating how you might have done it better. It doesn't really ruin my day.

I enjoy the excitement of speculation. Sometimes, I think I might enjoy it more than actually finding out the answer.

Thanks.  If I ever get this thing finished I'll be sure to credit you (currently the fic is in the stage of 'open word doc, read what I've written, stare at screen, close word doc')

Personally chapter one keeps getting tweaked while I try to figure out the best way to handle chapter two's five year time jump then I go watch TV.

Productive it's not.

Wow, those gowns are awesome! Do.want.in.game.NOW! I'd totally pick the first one for my Lavellan... and probably the rest for my other characters :P

And those vids are also really good. It seems that really a lot of content from the early trailers was cut, than? Never got to see the crestwood-mission, Cullen with his helmet, Sera in the grain field wandering and with dead person, etc, etc...

I actually think his story - or at least we'll find out about Lavellan/Solas before DA4.  I think DLC will do a lot to set that stuff up - much like Legacy did.  Like it's not IMPORTANT that you get it but it fleshes things out and fans will get it.  I think he'll be back in the big games - certainly - because his character is way too crucial to just relegate to the background but I think BW will continue on with new protag. and new companions like they've done before. It makes it easier for them to clean house a bit - kill off characters, drop too tangled plot threads etc.  I actually kind of like that - new romances, new issues.  That's why I enjoy the series - they are not totally railroaded into going a certain way like Mass Effect.  Like they can have big events shape the world, but the smaller story stuff is new and interesting.

I'd kinda be happy if we could keep playing Inky, I never felt so attatched to any of the other Protags.

But playing a Lave Inquisition helped that quite abit, with all the elfy stuff happening.

Yeah. I hear ya, but a lot of people didn't.  They like their human protags, or their Qunari and Dwarf.  So BW has to play fair - they can't make an entire game about elves and make it more important and crucial than the others.  They actually already kind of did that with this game.  The romance is far and away the best one/most interesting, the plot elements are intimately tied to elven culture.  A m/f Lavellan inky - especially a mage - gets more out of the story.   Whereas the others  it kind of feels like they have no stake in what's happening(I know that's been a complaint that's been tossed around).  I want to stress that I love my Lavellan and the Solas romance, but I don't need it to continue for 3 more games.  I want to know what happens but like a simple wrap up in a DLC would be fine. Solas and Lavellan need a happy ending and to just wander together.  Knowing that would be sufficient.  Like I would LOVE to go back to Orzarmmar or see Kal Sharok.  I would love for the dwarves to finally get a good romance and story because they are awesome and deserve.

Perhaps that is true that we feel disappointment more often, but I also believe it allows us to bounce back from said disappointment much faster, to look for the good in a bad situation, and I think being an optimist allows me to be open to seeing other sides besides my own that I may have not considered before.

I'm making Meatloaf so of course while I cook I have my phone on reading everyone's theories. I may make a handy dandy graphic later with concise information about each elven god and what we know to be true, their associations, their vallaslin once we get that nailed down, and all other pertinent information. Maybe one graphic for each one with corresponding codex entries from each game.

That way all the information is easily accessible in one place.

I wouldn't mind playing the Inquisitor for a second go. There's certainly enough plot threads for another game.

I don't know as some optimistic people are different. But me I'm optimistic but also realistic I know there could/can be a down side to things and if that happens I might be sad and upset for awhile but I get over it and move on I don't dwell on things or at least do the best I can not too and I don't focus on the the negative so much life's too short to be miserable. I like to be happy and every day is not going to be perfect ( I don't tend it to be) I know that and that does not wreck my optimism or at least I don't let it.  :)

Plus I pray to the Good LORD and he helps me.  ^_^

Oh! I didn't mean like, Just use the Elf Inky. I meant I wish we could just continue with the Inquisitor in general. They are kind of like Sheperd in the way that they have the ability to seemingly fit into all situations/perils and what not due to them being the leader of the, you know, Inquisition. I'm just sort of tired now of getting attached to characters/companions and then bam, new game, new character, It's fun and all.. but It makes me sort of miss my old favorites. (( Like Fenris, where did u go bby :c))

Question for everyone:

If Solas had told her the truth, about why he couldn't stay, couldn't be with her....what would your Lavellan do?

Politically?  Romance/emotionally?  Would she tell other? Keep the secret?  I'm curious what people think.

Mine would understand, but move forward.  She would seek to restore Elven society, or at least dispel some of the myths and inaccuracies held by the dalish, and she would be open to learning and working with Solas in the future.....but she would understand their romance was over (except for the occasional fade romp perhaps)

I don't think she would tell anyone else...yet...maybe Varric.  I don't think she would love another either.

So far I have a human and an elfy playthrough and I'd be content with either of them starring in the game(s) to come. Because of Solas I have yet to get past the wrist grab with another race, so its a good thing I did human first. I still want to replay my human + Cullen PT because it was my trailblazing one where I ended up getting a lot of people killed or alienated with the war table stuff especially. Either way, I'd happily pick up either one of them in the next games.

The Inquisitor accomplishes much regardless of race, and even though the game deals heavily with Elven lore, I personally don't feel it subtracts from non-elf experience.

I know people are complaining that they shouldn't pull the Shepard card, but on the other hand, I'm curious how they will deal with our heroes if they don't. Look how important the Inquisition has become. With ties reaching every major population in and below Thedas if you played your war table right, how can someone as prominent as the Inquisitor fade quietly into the background with a form letter codex entry, like our warden or be content with a contrived cameo, like our Hawke?

It actually makes me uneasy to think about it, considering what my Hawke's fate will always be in my canon world state.

Why does the romance have to be over? The romance will nevaaa be over. I don't know what my Lavellan would do because no one knows Solas' exact plans right now.
