Question for everyone:
If Solas had told her the truth, about why he couldn't stay, couldn't be with her....what would your Lavellan do?
Politically? Romance/emotionally? Would she tell other? Keep the secret? I'm curious what people think.
Mine would understand, but move forward. She would seek to restore Elven society, or at least dispel some of the myths and inaccuracies held by the dalish, and she would be open to learning and working with Solas in the future.....but she would understand their romance was over (except for the occasional fade romp perhaps)
I don't think she would tell anyone else...yet...maybe Varric. I don't think she would love another either.
That's a really good question, and hard to answer.
For starters, my Dalish Inquisitor (who romanced him) wouldn't tell anyone his true identity. She would keep his secret and respect his desire not to have his true nature revealed to others, no matter how she felt about it. (In general, my character is very respectful of other people's desires, particularly elven-related. In the Temple of Mythal, she chose to respect the rituals of the place rather than charging in after Samson, and agreed to act as respectful guests and not touch the Well when she first met Abelas and the ancient elves. Then, when the narrative makes it clear you need that water, she made it clear to Abelas that while they need the Well, she won't touch it without his permission.)
Emotional/romantic reaction: It's hard to say. I think "shocked" and "overwhelmed" wouldn't begin to cover it. I think she would reel, think his claim was a cruel joke to mock her at first, then feel shocked and angered and horrified after she realized he's serious. Then confusion on what to say since there's so much to consider: What?! You're an elven god? Our gods are real? Our stories are true? How much are they true? *gasp* You're the Dread Wolf? The one that ruined everything? How could you?! What really happened? So you were slumming with a mortal? Was it fun?
Yeah, it's unkind, but things to keep in mind: a ) The Dread Wolf is a trickster who gained the gods' trust and then betrayed them in the Dalish stories she grew up with, and Solas lied about his true identity, stole her heart under false pretenses, and is now dumping her after telling her the truth. While she knows the Dalish only know bits of their past and often get it wrong, it's hard not to get that knee-jerk reaction when you find the man you love is an immortal being (especially a known trickster) who has been lying to you all along and is now dumping you. b ) As an elven traditionalist who has deep reverence for the divine, she would find it very hard to believe that a divine/semi-divine/super-powered being could truly love a mere mortal like her.
As for how she would react to future plans... that depends on Solas. Since we don't really know what his future plans are, I can't pretend I know how my character would react to it.

If Solas had told her the truth, about why he couldn't stay, couldn't be with her....what would your Lavellan do?
Interestingly enough, the more I think about it, the more I understand why he didn't tell her the truth ![]()
In my Lav's case, she would be shocked at first. Like, she wouldn't believe her own ears. But she trusted Solas for so long, so she'll agree to at least hear him out. She'll have trouble wrapping her head around it, definitely. Maybe she'll ask for some time to spend alone to think it all over. And then...
...and then, she'll have a lot of questions for him. About everything. She'll be sad about him basically lying to her for so long, and I can actually see her breaking down in tears over it, but, as pointed out above, what happens next largely depends on what Solas will say/do. ![]()
Edit: aand I remembered the song it reminded me of. Angels by Within Temptation.
You took my heart,
Deceived me right from the start.
You showed me dreams,
I wished they would turn into real.
You broke the promise and made me realise
It was all just a lie.
Could have been forever,
Now we have reached the end.
This world may have failed you,
It doesn't give you a reason why.
You could have chosen a different path in life...
I agree, a lot of things would fall into place. I think after Leliana's report, she would admit what she already knows- he's not a normal elf. He knows too much and carries himself differently than any elf she's ever met. When I lived overseas, my friends told me that people would be able to tell where I was from even if I looked like everyone else. They said it was because people from my country carry ourselves a certain way. Well Solas doesn't carry himself like an elf- not a city elf and not a Dalish. My Lavellan would be much less shocked than she probably should be. A lot of pieces about Solas would fall into place and throughout her whole crazy journey as Inquisitor, she's learned to just accept what would have seemed crazy to her before.
I'll admit, I think my Lavellan would do best finding out who he is in the middle of a crisis.
Like: "Oh maker! Everything is on fire. Also Solas is the Dread Wolf."
"Well...****, lets do something about that fire first."
having Solas tell her he's Fen'Harel makes me think of how'd I'd react if my husband told me he was the devil or something.
That's what I was kind of thinking. Fen'Harel is like the boogeyman or something. I might think he was sick or crazy. Though obviously there is no magic IRL, so maybe it wouldn't seem so crazy. There was convincing reasons to believe that Mythal was who she said she was, so Solas might have been able to do something similarly convincing.
I was going to write something about how my Inquisitor would react to finding out the truth, but it really kind of depends on a lot of other things... I feel like writing it for myself would be like admitting that I don't think it's ever going to happen in-game. ![]()
However, all that thinking did inspire some fanfic ideas. We'll see how that goes...
You guys move fast! I just caught up on around 25 pages of new stuff.
That video of a Dalish inquisitor accusing Solas of not doing enough to help the elves made me sad.
He didn't even get mad. He just sounded tired. I know Weekes said the romance made it "sadder", but I'm glad that he's able to have at least a few months of happiness with a romanced Lavellan.
And here's my contribution to the ongoing songlist. The lyrics work really well, as does the dreamlike sound of the music.
Lyrics:
Mine would need something more than "magical time control. go with it" before actually believing Solas is Fen'Harel. If he was going to do a big reveal, he would have to do something that put a little doubt in her mind. Yeah, she finds out the Dalish don't have a very good grasp on the little they think they know, but there is little evidence to indicate that Fen'Harel was anything but the Dalish devil.
I feel like Solas could have eventually told all Lavellans the truth if he pieced out information over a long period of time. It would have been easier if she were given information about other things to put enough doubt in her mind so that Fen'Harel might not be as much of a shock.
"Hey, just so you know that X you believe isn't quite right."
"Well, ok. That makes sense."
"Hey, this other X you believe isn't quite right."
"Interesting. I'll bite."
"Hey..that thing you believe about Fen'Harel isn't quite right."
"Well..that's a little harder to swallow, but all these other things were wrong too. Maybe it could be true?"
I liked and want to emphatically agree. You have a short-ish DLC. It's beaten in a weekend and then everyone else - on PC and PS4, PS3 has to wait a month. But it's spoiled for literally MOST of the people that played the game. But devil's advocate - the vg247 link - says "premiere content" that's vague marketing speak. It could mean, non-story stuff like armor packs, in game-character modifier(like the mirror thing in DA2). I want to believe that they wouldn't release a major story pack to be spoiled. I want to believe that but these companies with their idiotic timed exclusives continue to surprise me.
Btw, ahem

In short:
UPDATE: Microsoft has clarified that the exclusive content will be the first single-player add-on for Dragon Age: Inquisition. This will arrive first on Xbox (360 and One).
Single-player content could be silly things like armor packs but.....
Although it does say 'add-on', which may be only wording, but makes it seem less big

I don't think she would tell anyone else...yet...maybe Varric. I don't think she would love another either.
I think eventually my Lavellan would come to terms with it. So much has happened that has forced her to question everything about her own faith, and her people. She accepted removing the Vallaslin, so she is capable of handling hard truths.
Blackwall's deception, and her ability to give him another chance, will help her to forgive Solas. My Lavellan sees people for who they are and try to be rather than what they are. Blackwall is still Blackwall no matter who he was before, and the horrible mistake he made. She spent enough time with him to see how good of a man he tries to be. That's why she kept him in the Inquisition. It can be the same for Solas.
It will be shocking, it will hurt. Oh Maker it will hurt! She's her clan's First, she's supposed to protect from the Dread Wolf. What she discovered at the Temple of Mythal has already forced her to look at her history differently. She knows they got a lot wrong. Why not Fen'Harel too?
I think the revelation would make her want to help her people even more. Depending on what Solas' plans are I think she would help him if it restored even a fraction of what the elves used to be. All depending on the cost, of course. It'll be a hard road, but I think Lavellan would want all of the elves to know the truth.
For one thing, I do think Lavellan suspects at least that he's an ancient elf. There are too many things that don't add up (being called trickster by the Nightmare, dodging questions about his people, being totally flustered when asking about the court experience... And these are just the ones we see. If the two are a couple they should spend a lot of time talking, and as a First she certainly pesters him for every bit of elven lore he discovered). Actually, I headcanon that at one point they talk about the gods, she repeats what she knows about them, abd when it comes to Fen'Harel she states he's been said to wander the Fade ever since, and in that moment her eyes narrow and she looks at Solas and wonders if that's who he's looking for. Why else spend so much time in the fade?
That being said, she'd still be shocked. And need time to process it, probably a day or two. And then she'd sit him down for a serious question-answer session in which she wants to know the true story behind those Dalish legends. If his answers convinced her that what she's seen is his true face, and not just a masquerade to fit in, and that either that the Dalish legends were wrong, or that some crucial part of his motivation was missing. And she'd probably still be wary, for a while. At the same time, once she'd accept it she'd also be incredibly enthusiastic about the chance to recover so much knowledge she thought lost. And she'd make him swear by whatever is holy to him to not try any more mad schemes on his own ![]()

Well, I, in default, just assumed that the understanding of what happened to Arlathan & the Elvhen pantheon will be fed to the Inquisitor by the story, events & settings (like some 'must-read' codexes on which the Inquisitor comments)... It will soften the blow, clear up things for the player (that can't be cleared with short-long dialogs), plus make Quizzy appear like some Sherlock Holmes (in case they want to use their brains).
Maybe something like Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts - content you uncover during some mission, you don't have to invest yourself in it but if you do - you'll get better grasp on what's going on and perhaps get more dialog options/better choices.
really interesting responses, good reads
Reminder about DLC: Microsoft's big announcement at E3 was that the first single player DLC for DAI would be a timed exclusive for XBox One only.
All the rest of us will have to wait, unfortunately.
It probably will just be a month of waiting. Also, those of us on PC in particular should probably be glad of it, since it means a month of extra time to fix any bugs--note that XBox and PC have pretty similar code and architecture. The Playstation folks may have a hard time of it, because as far as I know, Playstation is still rather dissimilar to PC and harder to code/bugfix for. Hopefully it works out well for you people as well.
Playstation users always seem to get the short end of the stick when it comes to content timeliness. I feel a little bad for them because a lot of times Xbox and PC will have their content fixed and released for several weeks before being given to Playtation people. I hope Bioware makes content releases a little more even, outside of contractual exclusivity.

Also, PC players get mods. I wouldn't trade this platform for anything; not even early access to more Solas. I do feel for the Playstation people, though. They never seem to get to have any fun. ![]()

Nevertheless PS4 FTW

A month seems kind of long, actually... or is that just me? I hope that it's only a week or two at most.
Probably like he reacts when Lavellan accuses him of bringing Fade tongue into the mix.
"I did no such thing!" In a somewhat indignant tone...
Nahh. It sounded like he was smiling when he said it; startled, but amused.
Wait, do we know if the "timed exclusive" is a story-thingy? Maybe it's just weapons or a face changing mirror or something.
(As a PC gamer, I try not to cry.)

All we know is timed exclusive.

It sounds like the same deal as with Skyrim. Microsoft loves their dirty tricks.
I hope Bioware reconsiders but since it's already been announced that this will happen, we might as well brace ourselves. I didn't even try to avoid spoilers with Skyrim. No use in doing so. So the enjoyment of the DLC was much reduced. It was just like "eh, here you go."
