Not surprising.  Solas is SUPER PISSED about the Wardens and their plan.  He disapproved when I forgave them and I was like, "Suck it, they deserve a second chance."  I mean, I get it, Solas likes thoughtful, elegant solutions, not half-assed, panic-fueled shenanigans, but it's totally hypocritical of him to take a "the ends justify the means" stance when it comes to himself, while deploring it in everyone else.  Honestly, I think he's not so disturbed by what the Wardens /actually/ intended so much as he's alarmed and angry at how close they came to interfering w/ his own plans.

 

I know im behind in the tread but this caught my attention.

 

At first, when I came to realize who Solas was and what he wanted to do, I felt just like you, that Solas was pretty hypocritical. He keeps disapproving the inquisitor and other influential groups/figures for **** he would also do.

 

But then i mellowed my stance because its clear from his personality and back story that he disapproves just as much of himself for the choices he made and the actions he thinks he has to take.

 

The Inquisitor would be just as hypocritical the say he shouldnt put all his energy towards his goal and accept the consequences that come from decisions made for the greater good as it is exactly what the Inquisitor has been doing the whole game.

 

 

 

But still, if ther was one mistake he could undo without settign the world ablaze, that would be coming back to Lavellan. You got to take victories where you can, Solas!

Question for everyone:

 

If Solas had told her the truth, about why he couldn't stay, couldn't be with her....what would your Lavellan do? 

 

Politically?  Romance/emotionally?  Would she tell other? Keep the secret?  I'm curious what people think.

 

Mine would understand, but move forward.  She would seek to restore Elven society, or at least dispel some of the myths and inaccuracies held by the dalish, and she would be open to learning and working with Solas in the future.....but she would understand their romance was over (except for the occasional fade romp perhaps)

 

I don't think she would tell anyone else...yet...maybe Varric.  I don't think she would love another either.

 

Mine would not react well.  Her faith is pretty important to her and finding out that the gods are real and they're just elves would be a pretty big shock (assuming this took place before the Flemythal reveal, which I believe it does if you talk to Solas as soon as What Pride Has Wrought is done.)  She'd be horrified at his involvment in the Breach and feel betrayed that he hadn't let them know everything he knew about Coryfish and the Anchor.

I'm going to don the tinfoil hat here, but Mythal's murder and her hunt for vengeance seems to be a pretty major plot point and Abelas is pretty quick to say that Fen'Harrel didn't kill her. What if Mythal's death is what kicked off the war between the Elven Pantheon and the Forgotten Ones? The gods weren't exactly unified to begin with and the murder of a goddess in a society of immortals would probably be shocking enough to cause blame to be cast between the members of the Pantheon.

If Solas was Mythal's spymaster/soothsayer then it would explain why he could go between both factions as a friend, if you hold the mantle of the God of Truth (or an equivalent) then it would be assumed that you weren't operating under false pretenses. It would also explain why there's statues of the Dread Wolf all over the place (none can hide from Mythal's justice when her Dread Wolf can see your thoughts and dreams).

If that's the case, Solas must have either figured out who killed Mythal or had an idea who did it...and the Pantheon wasn't willing to believe him (the whole "madman and fool" dialogue). With the war between the gods threatening to destroy Elven civilization, Solas lured the gods into the beyond and sealed the Fade and Eluvian network. Society collapsed and Solas was branded as Mythal's murderer.

He can't free his brethren without the truth of who/what murdered Mythal and vengeance for it, and to be honest he's tired of fighting for an ungrateful pantheon and people. Laying down his burdens and staying with Lavellan would put an end to it, but that's not the kind of person Solas is.

My theory is that the elven gods started warring for whatever reasons (maybe slavery?) and Mythal, Fen'Harel, and one other god were on one side and the rest on the other. Also, somewhere there is a painting in the game, and I cannot remember where it is, where a dragon is presumably leading a group of elves in a certain direction (war?). I think that other god who was on "Mythal's side" betrayed and murdered her and was perhaps working for the other faction the whole time. At some point Fen'Harel, who I think of as a general/spy/enforcer of Mythal, was like alright time out you naughty elves and locked everyone away.

With everything that happens towards the end of the game, my Lavellan would probably be torn between utter panic and almost casual acceptance. Her faith is just about crushed after the well of sorrows and she has admitted to herself that she knows very very little about... well, anything.

 

On the other hand, it's not a small thing he's keeping from her that's what she---*smack!*...

Speaking of time travel fics, anyone else been reading this one? https://www.fanficti...ky-Will-Be-Kept It's more of a fun comedic one; been enjoying it so far.

Good question from Dgyre - it made me think over somethings that I haven't ever concidered and I didn't realized. I was hesitating weather to write my opinion about it , mostly because I don't think it's possible for him to tell her the truth.

 

I mean, I kind of understand him - the way he thinks, what he's fighting for, think I'll agree whatever his plans turns out to be.Because as much as I adore him as my LI i love him most for what he represents. A fighter for freedom, the idealist that wants to help, make the best out of the people. Giving them choise to decide alone what they want to be. For the worst - to make an example of the change that could be. For the best - to become that change the world desperately needs.
Also the way he works toward that goal is incredibly attractive to me - as if he really is a predator , waits , learns, hides then strikes at the right moment(or when it's needed to strike - and leaves us in shock!).
He waits for the plan to succeed and concideres thoughtfully his every step of the way.

As for Lavellan - she is more or less burdened by the way she was raised - all her life she was listening to the same stories, praied the same prayers, sang the same songs, she lived as she was told to by her dalish clan (all we know is they were not that correct in...pretty much everything), which restricts her in so many ways, takes her freedom away. That is the first thing is stopping him from telling her the truth. I'm not saying that she is limited in her perception, just the oposite - she is quite open to ideas and knowledge. But lets don't forget that the player knows more and is more aware of the ****s that are happening around, than her. So I think she first has to understand the truth about so many things in her life and the elvhen history, before she could understand the truth about him. Most replies here are about her strong fate and the importance of her beliefs (which is respected by me, and also is  true for her, I think). The time it would take her (as all you said by your opinion) to understand and assimilate the truth, to decide how even to react to it, might slow them both and it's not like they have all the time in the world, unfortunately...

Again comes the problem that Solas HAS to put the pain of two souls under the importance of the potential pain of all his people. Even though one of these two souls is his oun and the other is the one of his vhenan... Isn't it devastating!?

 

But lets pretend there is a scene where he tells my Ningannel the truth of what he is - as far as her reaction depends on my decision (devil) - she would embrace whatever he would  have to offer and will follow and support him till.the.end! Even if he doesn't want it from her - she still will be there for him. Ofcourse after thoughtfull conversation with him (which will not change anything, anyway)
