I just love the story, especially if the theory proves true....

 

the courage, resolve, and objectivity it takes to do what he did for the greater good (I choose to see it this way I know), 

 

not the flashy popular hero, but someone who sacrifices your own happiness, betrays your own 'family' because its the right thing to do.. to condemn yourself to a lifetime of heartache over your actions, but to KNOW, to have the conviction, that you have to do it.....

So I have a question for everyone about Solas' appearance.

 

Were you physically attracted to him when you first saw him (in-game or pre-game) or did you gradually warmed up to his looks?

I... did not find him particularly attractive. Especially in the earlier screenshots of him in that black vest outfit. However, when someone has a personality I like, their physical appearance matters less and less. Now I find him super attractive. lol

I just noticed that the youtuber who's been chronicling all the companion disapproval conversations uploaded an elf-specific disapproval dialogue with Solas where you can hear the Inquisitor actually speaking Elven:

 

 

I gotta say, it's still really unclear to me how much of this language the Inquisitor canonically knows. On the one hand, they seem to be capable of holding at least short conversations; on the other, they also have to get pretty much every elven inscription in the game translated by someone else, and they seem to periodically forget they know any at all when other people are speaking it. Difficult to untangle how much of that is just default dialogue originally written for a human Inquisitor, and how much is actually meant to represent the state of the lore re: the Dalish and the elven language.

 

edit: Also, the Inquisitor in this video totally looks like the dude version of my mage. Weird. XD

 

Addai has pointed out that in "The Stolen Throne", the Dalish are mentioned to speak elvish in camp with one another, and they only use the Common Tongue when speaking with non-Dalish.

My Lavellan deeply loves Solas, but is as motivated by duty as he is and has not crumbled at his leaving.  His long term outlook and rational but compassionate focus have heavily influenced her development.  She has grown patient and wise.  She chose the stoic response when Solas ended the romance & has no doubt that his love is genuine.  She knows he has withheld much from her, but is willing to give him a second chance because she feels his intentions are fundamentally good and that everything he ever shared with her was honest at its core.

 

She may not yet know his reasons for leaving, but trusts his judgment and intellect enough to wait for him to explain when he is ready.  When he does, she will stand firm as his equal and show him that she has learned well all of the lessons he taught her.  She is no one's fool and will accept nothing less than full disclosure from Solas.  Her guiding principle now is to fear only the consequences of ignorance.  She will face the truth head on, whatever it is, and if Solas chooses to walk away a second time, she vows that he will not do so without knowing she is strong enough to stand at his side.

As a straight man, I usually pick male player characters in bioware games, but my close friend always picks women in bioware games "If im going to look at an ass for the next 40 hours it might as well be a women's ass" he always says.  I decided to go with the female elf, and then looked at the wiki for romance options (I noticed flirt options for nearly all the companions, and refused to believe that all of them were actually romance-able).  I decided to go after Solas, for various reasons and soon I was as hooked on him as I was on Tali.

I knew before I started playing I was gonna romance Solas or Cullen. Obviously Cullen is the more physically attractive of the two, but I felt like Solas' looks were good enough that his personality could win me over. And it did. Rather quickly.

ikr? Solas' romance is one of the best Bioware has come up with, in my opinion, because it's not just about eye candy for the ladiez (although there's nothing wrong with that, hehe), it's mostly a really really good story, and it enhances the whole experience of the game in a way that a lot of other romances don't.

But seriously, I laughed harder than I had in a long time during that game.

 

On another note, I recently got a dog from the shelter and one of his go-to toys is a ball he keeps in his doggie bed. I took it away and he had this sad expression in his eyes that made me think of Solas. Suddenly, I was laughing. My boyfriend wanted to know what was so funny.

I've always thought Solas was attractive. Some people can pull off the bald look and he can. The cleft in his chin

I never choose the characters based on physical appearances, to be honest.  The voice acting/personality of the character is what sways me.  I don't think any of the characters are hideous -- except maybe Sera.  Worst face ever.

Solas was immediately my choice based on the way he spoke/carried himself.  I saw an intellectual; confident, poised, and in control -- yet, there was something mysterious about him.  For instance, every time he'd start talking about a situation that would seem an impossibility for an apostate elf to experience, he'd ALWAYS explain it by stating it occurred in the Fade, but often times he hesitates, especially when he's getting swept up in the passion of the moment.  I found that aspect of him ESPECIALLY interesting, before I knew who/what he was...

I have to confess that I was never wowed by his 'still' looks (i dont know what the right term would be, I mean like when he isnt acting/moving/reacting). I wouldnt put a poster of him staring at the camera on my wall. He isnt smothering hot or anything.

 

BUT

 

There is definitly something to him smiling, to his laugh, even when hes thinking or scrutinizing things or even yelling at people. Thats why I find myself always trying to see him interact, to see his reactions, to see him smile. Oh and that laugh did i already mention it ?... 

 

So its all in the contrast to me. Looking 'fair but plain' doesnt mean you cant handle yourself like a boss and get the girl!

 

I believe his looks fits the character perfectly and that he must be pretty happy Lavellan sees past him being a 40 yo normal guy and be attracted to the man he is (or the god he doesnt want to show he is).
