I was desperate to stroke his head...a lot, even before release, he has a beautiful head...
He's the most attractive character in video game history to me these days...

So I have a question for everyone about Solas' appearance.
Were you physically attracted to him when you first saw him (in-game or pre-game) or did you gradually warmed up to his looks?
I definitely wasn't. I was never attracted to baldness. Originally I thought he was interesting (probably because I thought he was an agent of fen'harel who was working against the inquisition. I was so close!) but he never grabbed my attention. And then I met him in game and was like WOAH you suave son of a ******. I eventually restarted the game with a levellan and romanced him and now i can't romance anyone else.
Did we ever find out if Solas's body model was unique and different than m!Lavellan?

I can already imagine the comparison.
Iron bull: What a nerd, check out those dainty arms.
Warrior inquisitioner: LOL, do you even lift?
Elf inquisitioner: What, when did he get those gains?

I never choose the characters based on physical appearances, to be honest. The voice acting/personality of the character is what sways me. I don't think any of the characters are hideous -- except maybe Sera. Worst face ever.
Solas was immediately my choice based on the way he spoke/carried himself. I saw an intellectual; confident, poised, and in control -- yet, there was something mysterious about him. For instance, every time he'd start talking about a situation that would seem an impossibility for an apostate elf to experience, he'd ALWAYS explain it by stating it occurred in the Fade, but often times he hesitates, especially when he's getting swept up in the passion of the moment. I found that aspect of him ESPECIALLY interesting, before I knew who/what he was...
This was me. Well, I thought Sera was pretty attractive beyond the face grease, but I would never romance her because her character annnoys me. To be honest, I don't even find Solas attractive. He reminds me of Nosferatu. But his personality appeals to me, more so than any other female-friendly romance option. Bioware romances are so well-written that it seems a shame to pick a character you're not interested in beyond how they look.
It's kind of good that Solas is a fictional character. I think it would be much more painful if a real life Solas ditches you.
So I have a question for everyone about Solas' appearance.

I was always very interested in his character pre-release, but I couldn't say that I was particularly attracted to him...until I saw him in motion. There's just something about him that still screenshots weren't able to capture. The way he carries himself. His range of expression. The way he looks at the Inquisitor when he thanks them. I always knew I was going to romance him first because of his personality, but I only realized that he was actually quite attractive after I saw him in game.
I'm never going to catch up with this thread, am I?
Just want to add to this (though I'm no elven specialist so take it with a grain of salt)
I think eva might mean free since revas means freedom and it contains eva.
Masula contains ma (as in my/mine/you) and su as in happen. Also sula is in sulahn which means sing, and sulahn'nehn which means joy (though I think it's closer to ecstatic or to 'sing in happiness' since the wiki also lists just nehn as joy, so put two and two together...)
Duthenas contains uth as in long/forever/eternal and then as in awake/alert.
So a possible translation might be: I am forever surprised your spirit's trapped yet you sing with a free heart.
I dunno. I was just pulling stuff outta my ass here but there's my two cents.
D'awwwwwww. More fuel for my love of their relationship. Even though they're so frequently at odds, I think they do care for one another. That's just the perfect mix of caring and slightly condescending that Solas always is towards Sera.
In his own way, he seems to admire her, even though he has a lot of trouble understanding her.
Yeah, his dignity and bearing in both his movement and voice. Really nice. But his Chuckles moments are what melt me. That first conversation hexes every playthrough that's not Lavellan.I was always very interested in his character pre-release, but I couldn't say that I was particularly attracted to him...until I saw him in motion. I remember that in the mods circle. I believe they said that's the result of the weird outfits not anything wrong with the model.

LOL I rather agree. Personality carries much more weight for me than physical appearance, but since I didn't know anything about the characters before the game came out apart from pictures and general info, I hesitated to get excited about anyone before learning what they're really like. If I don't know a character's particular personality and I don't find them too attractive, it's just two reasons not to get excited till I get to know them.

Amen!
Not to mention I really liked his nice, pleasant demeanor. I imagine his presence and advice was calming and cooling to my Lavellan, who often felt frustrated and overwhelmed with her new duties and expectations as Herald of Andraste, and later the Inquisitor.
So I have a question for everyone about Solas' appearance.

He's not on top of my list at first...(still higher than BlackWall,
I first got hooked by the "wake up"...Then I decided to reload and tried the kiss him option
And then the fade kiss...............
My whole world changed ![]()

Yeah, I get a very brother-sister vibe from them. I love how he sometimes entertains her sense of humor (the pissing magic banter) and i think he sees himself in her sometimes, because of her rebelliousness.
I FOUND ANOTHER TIME FIC!!
But it's only in part one for now.

Is a bummer of course but optimism is a choice to never let yourself be defeated by setbacks. They won't put you down and you will trust things will work, no matter the number of times things don't work out. Is an act of defiance, to me.
In my view if you let yourself be sad even before you know the outcome, you have already been defeated. You already let the world and the bad jerks win. You might stay safe but that is because you already put the jail bars around yourself and you can never get out and be free if you don't challenge your bad expectations.
But ya, it isn't easy to be defiant and dare to expect good, not disappointment. a lot safer to be disappointed ahead of time.
Reminds me of that banter Varric and Solas have about the fisherman. I got teary-eyed when they talked about it.
Agreed so much.
The BioWare artists and graphic designers have come a long way. I don't remember any game being able to have characters portray so much emotion just through eyes. Solas particularly. The way they light up when he laughs, the way they harden and glint when he's angry, the way they turn soft and loving when he's sharing a moment with Lavellan... the way they turn so deep and sad when he's lonely or miserable.
EDIT: Also! During the last romantic scene
Spoilerwas just a beatiful work of subtle animation genius.
YOU CAN SPOT THE EXACT MOMENT HIS HEART SPLITS IN HALF

i'm the same way. i always pick my LI's based on their personalities. usually i find their voices attractive very soon after.
Hola All first post. I was chatting with others today and mentioned my, er, obsession, and that I had created a male Lavellan who was almost as fine as you know who. Well, here's a screenshot of Lamark. ![]()
Also, here's my solavellan mix list:
Question for everyone:
If Solas had told her the truth, about why he couldn't stay, couldn't be with her....what would your Lavellan do?
Politically? Romance/emotionally? Would she tell other? Keep the secret? I'm curious what people think.
Mine would understand, but move forward. She would seek to restore Elven society, or at least dispel some of the myths and inaccuracies held by the dalish, and she would be open to learning and working with Solas in the future.....but she would understand their romance was over (except for the occasional fade romp perhaps)
I don't think she would tell anyone else...yet...maybe Varric. I don't think she would love another either.
I have 3 lavellans ![]()
one of them would be on Solas side regardless of what he told her, but like Carth on KOTOR, try to steer him to the good side
lav # 2 would be a bit shocked but would stay by him provided his plans were not too awful
lav # 3 might slap him silly.. then slap him more to change his mind and if he didn't.. Hell hath no fury like a lavellan scorned ![]()
So I have a question for everyone about Solas' appearance.
Were you physically attracted to him when you first saw him (in-game or pre-game) or did you gradually warmed up to his looks?
I tried to remain spoiler-free before starting the game and did not find Solas that physically attractive at first. He seemed really interesting, but I was playing as a dwarf and holding out hope for a Varric romance.
Then the fade dream happened and the combo of dialog-voice acting-animation finally got to me. I looked up the romance requirements online, realized Varric wasn't available (damn you Bianca!), and Solas's romance was race-locked. Re-rolled an elf and never looked back.
So I'm in the 'gradually warmed up to him' camp.
Do you think we would ever have more pages than the Cullen thread?
I'm not quite sure but I wanted you guys to see this video I made of him and my Lavellan
their story makes me tear up every single time. I have more videos on my other account and there is a link on this video's describtion part to that channel.
Hope you like it!
Do you think we would ever have more pages than the Cullen thread?
i don't think so. But depending on how the story plays out with DLC, and if stuff gets crazier re:Solas, anything is possible.
We are gaining on the Sera thread however.
Do you think we would ever have more pages than the Cullen thread?
Cullen has had three games worth of fans to cultivate, I don't think so.
Never wise to treat page numbers like a competition. Just be happy for every mile marker this one makes!

I was just wondering. If we can get close to Cullen thread numbers the chances are greater that they would work harder on the Solas story.
