So I have a question for everyone about Solas' appearance.

 

Were you physically attracted to him when you first saw him (in-game or pre-game) or did you gradually warmed up to his looks?

Late reply is late...

 

My interest in him had nothing to do with his appearance, initially. I like complex, layered characters who have more to them than it seems. If they also happen to be involved in the plot, have a Dark and Troubled Past and/or seem know more than they let on - even better. And since Solas manages to fit right in, I didn't care much about what he looks like. He was mysterious enough to pick my interest    Also, I spoilered myself regarding his true identity before I started playing, which made me even more interested.

 

But, as I said some pages back, he seems to become prettier the longer I play the game. So, I guess you could say that I "warmed up" to his looks.

Ugh! I have this sudden urge to replay my Lavellan again from the beginning (and experience the beauty and heartbreak of the Solas romance all over again)!

 

Unfortunately I don't have a save from right after the character creation screen so I might have to recreate her again from scratch. (And I didn't save pics of her sliders. I want her to look exactly the same as in my first playthrough dammit!)

Progressed to stage 4 during the time between ME2 ending and whenever Shep meets him in ME3. He was still enough of a badass to briefly hold his own against Kai Leng. That's impressive.

 

I was super sad he got stabbed and died, but it's not like I thought championing Bioware for a mystic cure for Kepral's Syndrome (that was explicitly stated to have no cure in the near future) would succeed in any way.

So I was reading fanfic and I imagined this. Imagine if during the haven fade kiss scene, instead of saying "Wake up" Solas turns in to a desire demon and goes "You are now mine to possess." Then you turn into an abomination and the game over screen shows up. hahaha

For me it wasn't that he died.  It was how he died.  I never expected him to live and have a happy ending with Shepard.  There was just something about how the fight with Kai Leng went down.  I am being nit picky I am sure of it.  I just couldn't understand why he'd be shooting and missing, and Shepard would just stand there. I just expected better execution is all.  Not being a fan girl.  Anyways I don't want to turn this thread into an argument about Thane, so that's all I am going to say.

 

But I am glad they added the scene that they did in the Extended Cut.

Ehh I was sad it happened either way. I know what the game told us, and we all knew it was terminal, it still didn't help at the end because I was a fan of his character. I never launched a negative vendetta towards Bioware because of that though. I was attached to their story is all. I think there was a small hope that there would be a cure but that's an old discussion for neither here nor there.

 

It's not that far to compare it to my hope that Solas/Lavellan get a happy ending when we don't know what his role in the story is. The way I see Solas right now it's not that great, only because it has the potential to backfire so bad it won't be pretty. I got vibes of him being an antagonistic figure in the future but I don't know it could go either way~

It wasn't just that he died that was the issue for a lot of people, though. It was that were was very little Thane content and what content there was seemed kind of... off. A bit out of character and very unsatisfactory. It was the execution of the whole thing.

Super late to the conversation:

 

Solas did nothing for me in the looks department... (and I initially intended to romance Blackwall because of it, tsk tsk, so shallow) but once you meet him in game he's just so... magnetic, by the time the end rolled by I was convinced he was the most gorgeous thing ever to grace the land of Thedas. Funny how that works. 

I mean, I went from "Dear lord why are you so bald??" to "Oooh look at how deliciously pointy his ears are and those eyes...*swoon*"

 

It's... interesting to say the least.

 

About Thane..I was so gut-wrenchingly disappointed with his arc in ME3. It's been years and I still get sad when I think about him.

It's not that he died per se (even though he could have easily lived to see the end), it's that his whole romance arc was basically hand-waved + his death was not acknowledged in any way and...blah, tldr: It hurt.A lot.

 

That said, I have faith in the DA writers, even if we don't get a "happy" ending, I trust that they'll at least give us some quality closure.

Is it really confirmed that Abelas and the other Sentinels are bald under that hood? I know they seem bald but it could be because Bioware didn't see the need to put hair on them since they never put down their hoods.

I think they are bald. All of the sentinels that weren't hooded were bald. But I can't really say for sure. This is a good twitter question.

Very true. I wasn't trying to sound judgmental, but I try to make my very first character in any game have my views/likes/dislikes/interests/et cetera. Then I mess around the other playthroughs. Honestly, I went into DAI looking at Cullen just because I was very interested in his character development since I first met him in DAO as an elf mage. Solas kinda swept my Lavellan right out from under him, haha.

I'm a Solas fan that got stolen by Cullen when I decided to try his romance XD.  I now like Cullen and Solas equally!  Both are great characters and romances in their own way.

I don't have images, but at around 2:24 one of the hoodless sentinels gets killed. The ones that attack on the way to the Temple look like this one and are also all bald.

I LOVE Thane, but I just couldn't, I romanced Garrus at the end.  THough I did edit the game so I got all the same scenes for Thane.

I love Thane and I he was the one I always end up with.. well my luck with Bioware games:
Making an elf --> Romancing Alistair --> He dumbs me(not queen material)
Romancing Fenris --> He dumbs me (but gladly he comes back)
Romancing Thane --> HE DIES T_T

Romancing Solas --> HE DUMBS ME

I've tried and I've tried to hear that "break" in Solas' voice Mr. Weekes mentioned in his Nerd Appropriate Interview at 55:45 that indicates Solas is one step away from telling the Inquisitor the truth of who he is, rather than the truth of the vallaslin, but no matter how many times I replay it, I don't hear Gareth David-Lloyd's voice crack or break one tiny bit on the word "truth", nor do I hear any pause or hesitation.  My first reaction was:  the break is a lie! (Giggle!)  Am I just deaf? Perhaps the take he was referring to didn't make the final cut?  (In which case, the take is a lie!  Yes, yes, Rora, beat a dead horse, why don't you...)
