Hehehe, that's part of the charm of Solas.
He sneaks up to you, makes a scrambled eggs out of your brains and then... you're stuck.
It's really hard playing an Assquisitor after romancing him, I don't like upsetting him :<
Oh, does he ever! If he's not broadening your mind with his world-opening ideas, then he's scrambling it with that wonderful presence. 
It's actually really hard to imagine a playthrough where I won't be romancing him, or even friends with him since my anti-magic "Assquisitor" (LOL) will likely earn his hatred.

I had the same problem in DAO. I could never do a PT like that because the idea of being mean to Alistair didn't jive.
Had no problems playing an A-hole Hawke however, heh.
Don't think I'll be doing an Assquisitor run any time soon. Unless I never talk to Solas. Hrmmm.

I would like to go back to bed and finish it but no, my husband wakes me up to force me to get ready for work.
You know you have an obsession when you start dreaming about it. The next stage is calling the character your virtual husband even though that declaration is one sided and nonconsentual.

Everyone else has talked about when they first fell for him- and I have to say, though I wasn't bothered by the baldness (lots of hot bald guys in the world), and was vaguely amused by the elfy mcsmuggins picture, I wasn't really that interested. To be honest I was pretty into Cullen.
Then I read an early review where someone said Solas was their favorite character in the first few hours, so I was vaguely intrigued.
Then he started talking and it was all over from there.
I still haven't done a complete Solas romance playthrough. I've done Cullen romance twice, but I keep stopping and starting over with my Lavellans.
I think maybe I'm just subconsciously delaying the inevitable.

Solas' character definitely ninjamanced me (just by being himself) with his discerning mind and words. It was nice to be given a character of this intellectual quality and steady temperament. So I can see what you mean by 'he started talking'

Just in case anybody else has troubles finding those nasty Venatori tomes for the Rift mage spec:
1) easy but long way: farm them in the Forbidden Oasis. Venatori keep respawning near the spider cave.
2) fast but boring way: do the Dorian quest and save each time right before the group. Takes six or seven reloads, but each spellcaster eventually drops that tome. (And it was indeed pretty fast for me, anyway. In Exalted Plains, I just ran from the first camp, unlocked the second camp and went straight for the Venatori group.)

uh oh, somebody is cheating. Just poking fun. I never understood fans who declare a character their boyfriend or husband but I see it alot on tumblr. Sure you're attentive about everything character does and love the character but that seems kind of stalker-ish if it weren't fictional. Wish I had an explaination for that but meh.

So I start over. I've done that three times now. Hopefully this latest sticks- I named her Revas and she's a bit of a pistol. She and snarky Hawke would get along great. And I"m trying to take it slow.
Talk to Solas once for first cutscene. Go do bunch of stuff in Hinterlands. Talk to Solas again, go through one line of questioning. Stop. Go do bunch of stuff in hinterlands.
Trying not to exhaust his conversation in the first ten minutes of play.

I liked one rift mage skill. Otherwise I wasn't totally impressed, and I never used firestorm.

I really wanted to answer the Solas appearance question last night, but I had to go to bed (woohoo different time zones). Feel free to ignore this if the topic is already old news.
I started planning my romance before the game came out. I knew I would romance Cullen first since I knew him from the previous games and I liked his character, not to mention that a lot of info was released about him pre-release. However, even before Solas was revealed to be a romance-able character I really wanted to be able to romance him since he was described as the "Mind", but that is all I had to go off of. I thought he was fairly attractive but not pretty like Curly. It was funny because my coworker, who was my gateway to my DA addiction and funnily enough is balding and because of that has shaved his head, asked me perplexed "you want to get with the bald elf dude? Seriously!?". My first play through I rolled a female Trevelyan, but was just astonished by how beautiful (and not just looks) Solas was. His personality, voice, choice of words, intelligence and all those things combined is just what made him so attractive to me. Sometimes I would make choices that he disapproved of and panicked a bit.
I guess it makes sense for me that I would find Solas sexually and physically that much more attractive after getting to know him, since that is how it is with my own husband. He isn't traditionally "pretty" and also gained quite a few pounds/kilos after we met (mostly cause I love to cook yummy stuff), but I am still very very attracted him. He has a personality much like Solas.
