I heard that knight-enchanter is OP, necromancer is more about passive skills, and rift mage is not a good mage specialization but is fun. What's your experience? I want to play it but I don't want more trouble fighting if compared to others.

 

To be truthful, It's pretty useless to me, because it's about controlling the battlefield, bringing the enemies to one place, weakening them and thus dealing more damage, but I'm too impatient for that - I prefer straight-up killing them with a cage of lightning and add some fire glyphs.

 

So I just chose the stonefist spell and left the rest unused. I just like being Rift mage for story reasons(and, well, romancing Solas, naturally).

First playthrough I was a dwarf, I barely knew anything about the companions (didn't want to spoil the plot), I only knew he's a bald elf and can only be romanced by elves. To be honest, I wasn't even sure I'd go for him at any point since I don't like playing elves. I wasn't attracted to him, but I'm not attracted to people if I only know how they look.

Then.. The "is that a serious question" and I got butterflies.

I took him everywhere, my character romanced Blackwall but went to speak with Solas more than with Blackwall (and I thought Blackwall would be awesome because of BEARD but he wasn't very awesome). My poor dwarf kept yelling in her chambers "WHY WAS I BORN A DWARF, I WANT TO BE AN ELF".

I managed to finish the first playthrough with her (even though I wanted to quit and create an elf) and after he left at the end I was HEARTBROKEN. After the stinger I understood that beyond being adorkable his romance will be closely related to the plot, so I made a female elf immediately after Skyhold reloaded.

 

Same but with a human female. I was hell-bent on finishing my female human/Blackwall romance first (because female humans were always my canon and I do love that beard and husky voice), but pined for Solas the entire playthrough. Solas has forced me into my first non-human canon PC.

I went with knight-enchanter on my first playthrough and have yet to try out the other specializations, because it's just tons of fun running around smacking baddies with my lightsaber spirit blade, tanking everything and generally not giving a crap.

So I have a question for everyone about Solas' appearance.

 

Were you physically attracted to him when you first saw him (in-game or pre-game) or did you gradually warmed up to his looks?

 

My first thought was 'oooh, he looks interesting' and then came along to the brand new Bioware Forums to talk about how interesting he looked with other people.  And saw a bunch of posters deriding his looks.  So... I didn't find him ugly, but I don't know if 'attractive' is the word I'd use.

 

EDIT: Just read HurricaneGinger's post and 'striking' is exactly the word I was looking for.

 

EDIT AGAIN: While I was pretty interested in Solas from the moment I saw him, finding out that Patrick Weekes was his writer and then that Gareth David-Lloyd was his VA pushed me competely into 'I am so utterly excited for this character'.

I'm not sure he noticed, but it was probably symbolic, the devs put it there to hint at the irony?

I'm pretty sure Coryflakes doesn't think Myhtal is Dumat, he knows Dumat is a dragon.

Alright, I can see that.

 

Hmm, I already had suspicions about Mythal's involvement with Andraste (not yet sold on the Solas=Shartan bit tho), so this certainly adds fuel to the fire.  If nothing else, this would be evidence that the temple was built on an ancient elven site.

Idk if you guys have seen this one but honestly.. my favourite picture of Solas I've seen yet:

Just in case anybody else has troubles finding those nasty Venatori tomes for the Rift mage spec:
 
1) easy but long way: farm them in the Forbidden Oasis. Venatori keep respawning near the spider cave.
 
2) fast but boring way: do the Dorian quest and save each time right before the group. Takes six or seven reloads, but each spellcaster eventually drops that tome. (And it was indeed pretty fast for me, anyway. In Exalted Plains, I just ran from the first camp, unlocked the second camp and went straight for the Venatori group.)

Per a Mary Kirby tweet, you can also buy everything if you take the Short List perk. Haven't tried that yet myself.

I don't think KE is OP because with the cooldown, I can usually create much more havoc with staff and elemental in the time it takes me to whack twice at a normal enemy. Where it's useful is enemies with guard or high armor rating. Hence why it's so useful for dragons. It will also cripple giants quickly so they can't do their leaping and throwing attacks.

and I thought he had a pretty striking face (all those angles!), but I wasn't sure how I felt about the lack of hair. I don't generally mind baldness, but I had some bad associations with those dreadful hairless elves in Kirkwall from DA2. I also thought he looked much darker/meaner than he actually turned out (I didn't read character descriptions before release, wanted to go in with a blank slate).

 

I was still completely undecided on which LI to go for until we left Haven. I found Solas' "grey" views on magic interesting, but his dialogue about hanging out in the fade all the time growing up made me feel he was maybe a bit... out of touch with the real world. It was when the epic finding Skyhold scene played that I went, "hell yes, going to romance that guy". And the point where I fell in love with him was in the fade, the way his expression turns all soft when he looks at Lavellan just melted my heart a little. I did a reload and kissed Cullen (for science!) afterwards just to try it, but it didn't tug at the heartstrings the same, y'know?

 

That's one thing that really amazes me about the Bioware romances - they work scarily like real-world relationships, where someone you didn't really notice before turns into the most desirable person ever - because you got to know them better and suddenly something happens that makes you feel the whole world change

Edit: I don't remember the quest of Urn of Sacred Ashes too much because it was a long time ago, so I decided to read. This is taken from the wiki:

 

... Father Kolgrim, awaits. As the Warden approaches, he will initiate a dialogue, revealing more details about the Cult that the party has been fighting since entering Haven. The Disciples of Andraste originally used to guard her ashes - however, they claim the prophet has since risen from the dead and the cult acts as her guard.

 

... After the encounter with Kolgrim, the party will reach the Mountain Top. A cutscene occurs as the cult's "Andraste", which is actually a high dragon, flies over and lands to rest on a cliff.
