I don't think it's between him and Blackwall, I'm pretty sure it's going to be Varric.
But I am glad you asked. I hope he answers one way or another, because the longer they wait to tell us, the harder it's going to be to hear when we finally do know.

Sten or some other qunari apparently claims that qunari do not have dreams. Even if they have mages, that doesn't mean they have that same connection to the Fade. Sten could have been lying, but why would he lie about something like that?

Yeah I guess I would. I would be majorly disappointed, though. I was hoping my ideal LI wouldn't have the race-gating, especially after his open-minded description. If he wants people not to see him as just an elf, why would he pay so much attention to race? It would seem kind of hypocritical.
As for if he isn't a LI, not going to lie I will be pretty upset and might avoid the forums for a couple of days. But I'll be back and still celebrate our elf! Though to be honest, my interest will wane a bit but only because I expect we won't get too much more info about him until the game comes out.
MAYBE, that will be his "bad-side". Right now he really is what I would call perfect. So maybe that he is hypocritical will be the thing that makes him less perfect 
Hi everybody. I hang out here a lot but, have never posted. I just wanted to give my support and that there's still a chance that Solas could be a romance. The other romances that were revealed could be race gated. I see Cullen and Dorian being race gated more than anyone, so don't give up!

I replied to Brass with this in another thread but I thought I'd come here and share my theories. I apologize for getting any hopes back up, but read on if you are somewhat masochistic:
We still don't have confirmation on Cassandra/Cullen/Sera/Dorian's racial preferences.
(Thus my race-gating predicitions are kind of pointless. Sera could only dig elves. Cassandra could only dig humans. Or maybe Cullen just loves elf girls. Who knows. hehe)
I'm not sure about Varric. I cannot see him being bisexual. We are supposed to be given more romance options than in any previous dragon age game. That puts us at 6 options for each gender, since we had up to 5.
Varric would have to be bisexual for it to be more than five and Vivi would also have to be bisexual, which I assume she will be. Varric has always struck me as hetero.

So I assume Solas will be bisexual and racegated to elves. That's my prediction. Hey, I could be wrong and no harm done. But for it to be "more options than any previous game" then each gender needs 6 and the final two need to be bisexual.

6. Tallis - sorta. Not a party member.
Women had 5 and a half options (Tallis is seriously a half, lol.) Men had 4 and a half options. Either way, not really a full 6. They are race-gating this time around to give us that full integer (vs. Tallis who was a fleeting kiss at best) - but you're gonna have to be a specific race to enjoy it.

Now I can't help but think that they were setting us all up for the following disappointment
Also, not to be even more of a downer, but I'm a bit skeptical of the race-gated romances. Would the lack of access mean that the romances are less focused on in the game? As in, will they just feel like nice extras? So many fears.

And there's still hope--If anyone read my previous post, well...
Dwarves and qunari do not dream. What if Solas is gated against people who can't dream? It is a story reason that makes sense. Maybe he's got a thing for wandering around in people's dreams.

Actually it was that there are still 2 race-gated people, whether it's the remaining romances or not remains to be seen
