I've been trying to figure out why in the world Solas would give his orb to Coryphishite. My best guess comes inspired by real life events. My boyfriend woke me up this morning and was talking to me. I don't know about you but I say some dumb **** when I'm half asleep. I said something without thinking and then was like, "My god, what I have done?!" So I imagine the conversation to go something like this;

Solas: *wakes up from thousand year sleep. Wipes drool off of orb then proceeds to stare at it for several minutes*

Enter Cory

Cory: Sup?

Solas: ...What? Oh..Yeah. I should get up...maybe.....in a few minutes. Yo. Do me a huge and turn this on for me, will ya?

Cory: Aiight. *turns orb on and walks away with it*

Solas: Thanks bruh. It's so warm under this blanket. I don't want to leave. Maybe I'll just lay here for a bit. Rest my eyes.

*Wakes up again and notices orb is gone*

So we're not allowed to disagree?  I must've missed the ground rules of this thread.

And I realize that saying "no offense" means the exact opposite to some people, but when I say it, I mean it.  I truly appreciate that people put forth theories that are way out there, and I do so myself.

What I don't agree with is censuring opinions.

Maybe you're not realizing this, but your words sound aggressive and dismissive. Saying "no offense" and then saying a bunch of words that sound like your calling them stupid doesn't count as not offending.

And throwing out the "censorship" hammer is not appropriate for this conversation at all. People are just saying you're a bit aggressive *sounding* in your words.

: D There should be an option under:

My settings -> Notification Options -> Notify me when someone quotes my posts (and I'm not already following) (Check the mark under Notification List)

Ooh, thanks for this.

I didn't know who made it I found it on a random site and there was not written who actually drew it :o

That very thing is the reason why I've seen artist after artist quit making fanart and/or stop posting their art outside of their personal websites. Or if they keep posting their work, it's with watermarks that ever-increase in size until the watermark obscures practically the entire piece. Always source a piece of art when you can, and if you can't, please think twice about sharing it. Sharing unsourced art does nothing but hurt the artist who made it.

I am trying unfollowing this thread...can someone quote me to see if it works?

Can you quote me too?

Didn't know you couldn't be subscribed to a thread for it to work. Wow, that's lame. D :

Also, I am with the people who were theorizing that Solas probably meant it as a trap for Cory, in which he probably expected him to die or something, but it all backfired. (Of course it did, Solas. Stop doing things!)

Edit:

I'm out of sync with the topic now, but hey. I was wondering about Solas/Fen'Harels middle man position earlier, and when norse mythology came up I did a little comparing Solas with Loke (again) to see if that made any sense. I think it does, but I don't think it is helpful in any other theory.

Loke is intelligent, cursed with bad luck, playful, has a temper and he finds solutions to crisis situations. He is neither good or evil. "In between gods", gods who has connections on both sides of a pantheon tends to be culture bringers (like Sylaise and June) teaching the people skills. Loke does not and I don't think Solas is connected to anything like it either?

Trickster gods does stupid s**t and messes up, but it tends to have positive outcomes, though accidentally. Sometimes it is his quick mind that gets him into trouble as he does not see the consequences of his clever solutions. This sounds like Solas, yes?

Loke is connected to crisis and chaos where he helps other gods or solves situations with his wit and intelligence. He prefers trickery over violence and he breaks rules (rebellion).

Loke kills the god of order in norse mythology, as Fen'Harel is accused of killing Mythal. Lokes' punishment in one version of the story is that he is bound in a cave with the entrails of his son. That son was killed by his brother in wolf form. The gods didn't want to be guilty of murder. Transforming someone into a wolf so he kills his brother is soooo much better. I love my heritage sometimes.

Coincidence? Fen'Harels punishment is being transformed into a wolf (the mosaics)?

You can absolutely disagree! :) I think the problem was that saying the theory was ridiculous was what may have felt..prickly. No opinions are censured here, feel free to disagree and post differing opinions all you want. We just want to try to be as respectful and careful of our wording as we can, because it's so hard online to really get a feel for what someone is actually trying to say.

I know first hand how the way I say something can be hurtful without my meaning them to. I don't think anyone should ever feel unwelcome or that their opinions are stupid or unworthy.  I've done that to people in the past (not even accidentally- I was a pretty horrible person. On purpose.) and it always ends terribly.

Been wondering the same question over and over. I'm intrigued by the relation with Flemeth and what happened in the end, but that one question was more than the rest : how can anyone trust a creature such as Corypheus? Especially when that "anyone" is supposed to be a great and clever spirit. How could Solas ever think that giving away the Foci could be a great idea?

What Pride (Solas) had wrought... hum...

I think there are two ways to look at it.

Option 1: Solas knew exactly who Corypheus was, and his act of giving him the orb was one made purely out of desperation. Solas couldn't activate his orb. He [presumably] doesn't know Mythal is still 'around'. He's all alone. He's woken up and confronted with the realization that rather than saving his people, he's actually doomed them to a potentially worst fate than they suffered under the elven empire. Corypheus is the most powerful mage currently around. He's evil, sure, but you are Fen'Harel. As soon as that orb is activated, you'll be able to dispatch with Corypheus, and go about making the world right. Its possible Corypheus might kill some people in the process of activating your orb, but...so many people have already died. A few more won't hurt.

Option 2: Solas searched for a powerful mage, and found one in the form of a grey warden. We know that Corypheus disguised who he was when he was conversing with Bianca. The implication from the game is that Corypheus did not use his darkspawn form for the majority of his 'prep' work in getting the orb activated. In this scenario, either Corypheus himself awakens Fen'Harel and tricks him into assuming he is just a normal mage, or, Solas willingly hands over the orb to what he believes is a mage most able to make use of his orb.

In both scenarios, Solas did not know that Corypheus could body hop. When Solas realizes that Corypheus can't be killed, he has a huge look of surprise on his face. He underestimated Corypheus, whether he knew what he was or not.

It's difficult to keep up with all the new posts.

I don't quite see understand LadyInsanity's theory about the Fade being a lie. Everything else I did, and thought was a mixture of brilliance and 'Oh, I should probably look into that a lot more'. Especially the connection between the Well of Mythal geas and the geas upon the darkspawn.

I'm fond of the Sera being afflicted by Andruil theory. But the other ones about her being one of the orphanage elves, or Amethyne, or somehow having her head scrambled by weird voices, those also make sense.

Goddammit, Bioware. Stop making all these characters so multi-layered and laden with conspiracy! *shakes fist*

Speaking of Corypheus hiding as a Grey Warden mage...

I really wish that we'd had more contact with the Elder One prior to his reveal as being Corypheus. Like, he's this crazy badass Tevinter Magister, and we have a few scenes like with Alexius where we talk cordially. But with the creepiness ramped up to eleven, with the characters being oblivious but the players recognizing Larius/Janeka (though I guess that body fried in the Breach...) Then we learn he's the secret leader of the Venatori, there's a boss fight during the assault on Haven, and he reveals his true form while trying to get the Anchor and everyone's   :o  "Well,  ."

When I see people jumping on a thought train, I tend to want to shake them so that they actually think about what they're agreeing to.  Playing devil's advocate.

Kind of like what Solas does, right?

    • Vivienne:So, apostate. If The Cirle is such a failure, what would be your solution? Would you have your fellow mages live among the people unguarded? Unwatched?
    • Solas:Yes.
    • Vivienne:And when they became possessed, or use their power to harm?
    • Solas:I would kill them. Magic is more eloquent than a blade or a bow. But a murderer remains a murderer.
    • Vivienne:So you alone would pass judgement? Repaying murder with murder. Or do we open to mobs and vigilantes? If you're going to dispense justice upon violent mages yourself, you'll need eternal life.
