Though I'm sure many of us would jump at the chance to tap dat Solass in-game
Wow, posting on the forums while writing smut makes me crude. I'll just...go. Now.
To be honest, I played through some of the other romances. They don't really have that much extra content. Solas mostly lacks a romance quest. Which would have been nice, but I don't feel too bothered by it.
As far as I'm concerned, Solas taking us on the date to reveal his identity only to give us the truth about the vallaslin as a gift when he freaks out is him doing OUR romance gift quest.
...The fact he chooses the broken heart option everytime kinda sucks, though.

*perks up* Did someone say smut? Not... not that I care or anything.
But for real, I care, gimme gimme gimme gimme.
Regarding the Watcher statues, I had the impression that they were related to Abelas and the ancient elves he worked with. They wear similar outfits to the statues'.

I can't tell if you're being sincere or provocative. Either way, I was responding to someone else and meant no offense. But my simple human mind cannot comprehend this "same person through countless ages and experiences." *brain explodes*
I'm also... less receptive to people who "Humans are sexual creatures so we need sexual content for something to be good, and anyone who says differently is lying." As a demi-sexual with asexual friends, I... am not the biggest fan of hearing people say we're damaged or lying for saying we don't want or are okay without gratuitous sexual content.
I'm definitely not demi- or asexual myself, but I really like that Bioware has been moving away from having a sex scene in every romance. It's just more interesting and varied when different characters have different approaches to sex, y'know? I think most fans enjoy these games because Bioware weaves really compelling stories into them, and having some kind of fanservice quota is totally unnecessary. I just want a good story.
So I just did 'What Pride has Wrought,' and for the first time I had my Lavellan choose to drink from the Well. I had to catch myself, because when the screen went black all I could hear was Solas calling her T_T
Ugh, this next bit is going to be especially heartbreaking, because I headcanon that my girl has a bit of a breakdown when she meets Mythal, and the reality that she's now bound to this woman finally hits her. And, timeline-wise, the break up occurs right after.
Why did I sign up for this again?
Worst day ever for poor Lavellan. D:
I kinda made it even more tragic in my first playthrough by assuming that the breakup was part of the "terrible price" for drinking from the Well... like, "everyone you love is eventually going to leave because they're freaked out that you are the slave of an ancient god" price.
I think it's safe to say we're not all about that sex, 'bout that sex... no courtship.

Oh I am very much a sexual creature. Me likey the sex. I am still ok with no sex scene during the Solas romance. I very much headcanon they totally did it. I don't need it on my screen. And it not being on the screen doesn't take away the enjoyment for me. Not judging anyone that it does. That's just how I feel about it.
The fact that they actually said that they are ok with no sex scene as long as the rest of the content is good enough to make up for it, is what makes me slam a fist onto the table. Saaaaaaay wut. Cuz they clearly say that Solas' romance sucks.
Ok now I am really done. I love you guys.

ETA: Ach, someone already posted this. Sorry @ willthiswork!! I'll just add that the DA:I review the comic links to is worth a look.
You know, before I read the artist's comments, I thought the comic was actually pretty funny. But after reading it, it's no longer funny anymore.
I accept that Solas' romance is not for everyone, but to say that his romance is "devoid of substance"... Really?
Okay, maybe in comparison to the other love interests he is kind of lacking in romance scenes, but I wouldn't say that there is no substance to what we got. I don't know about everyone else, but the tears I have shed for this man is proof enough for me that there is substance in his romance arc. ;___;
omg laughing my socks off

Aww, that is a very cute way of putting it.
As far as the 'did they, didn't they' sort of bit in the romance- I don't think you need to look farther than the twitter explosion regarding Dorian/Bull to get that they went the right path as far as handling Solas's romance. Its up to you to decide if it got intimate. Had they actually shown it, there would be grounds for people to wonder if Solas had perhaps taken advantage of the situation.
As far as my Lavellan goes, I assume they did have sex at some point. But that's my read. I don't need a sex scene in the game to come to that conclusion, and I wouldn't want one to be there to make people possibly feel uncomfortable. Or to spurn rumors that he was concocting a dark ritual, or any of the other craziness that was going around when his identity first leaked.
If anything, I found Solas' romance to have the most substance despite the lack of content in the entire game. The only one to surpass it, I feel, is Alistair's in the first game.
People gotta stop looking at the surface. Of course, people who do that are probably the same ones who would never give Solas a real chance.
If I recall correctly, it was during one of PW's interviews (or an article or something) where he said there wasn't a sex scene by design. It wasn't an oversight or a mistake. The gist of what he said was, that because he knew it would be so sad and that Solas would break things off, he didn't want to have the sex scene because that would have made it even harder on the romancers. He wanted to leave it up to the player to decide whether or not they had. In my headcanon, they did - just based off their body language and how they acted together in the last scene, and how attached they were and how hard the breakup hit both of them (plus Solas's "getting you into bed is a side benefit") comment.
I think the Solas romance did lack content - but it had more meaning. It had more intensity. Cullen = warm, fuzzy, safe. Solas = getting struck by lightning, consuming, deep
In regards to sexy-time in Thedas. I appreciated to how DA:O did it... *snort* get it? DID IT. Ahemmmm...
I ALSO appreciated the mods that elaborated on said sexy-time. I also also liked how DA2 did a friendmance/rivalmance. It added a different dynamic to the standard "be nice, shower with gifts, compliment shoes" type of relationship building. I could be a sassy Mage, that stood up for herself, and make Fenris fume, but then get hot and angry makeout sessions with him. Mmf.
I try to look at each game as... a separate entity from the ones prior to it, but with a common theme or goal. I would like to see if modders are able to come up with something super spiceh, although, it seems with DA2, the best they could do was nudey mods and morph swaps. Which made for cool fan videos, but, not much for RP purposes...
That's my silly 2 cents.

Exactly right my friend. Something like that already happens with Blackwall. I can't imagine the fall out from having 2 romances in the game having something like that happen. And there are more than a few upset by Blackwall doing what he does after having sex with the Inquisitor.
I can't tell if you're being sincere or provocative. Either way, I was responding to someone else and meant no offense.
Oh I was just joking around. I think a character like that is a bit too hard to comprehend. I think the writers would keep Solas a bit more human-like.
So I like maps.
Okay.
As was recently pointed out to me, when other people pull out their phones in a moment of calm, I pull out my map briefcase and start sketching. I drool over the maps in my Paradox Interactive and Total War games. I have a dozen maps in my room.
I really like maps.
Recently I took a relatively simplified map of Thedas off of Google Images and put it into Paint to politically color the nations in with nice bright colors. As a reference point for a acrylic paint map. While I had to guess at some of the borders, I'd wager it's 'relatively' accurate. Besides, Theodosian borders are in flux, especially with warmongers like Nevarra and Orlais. ![]()
While waiting for the art supplies to arrive, I've done most of a ancient Tevinter Empire map.
Guys.
Tevinter was BIG. I'm being generous in the Ferelden settlement department, but even then, boy howdy. No wonder Corypheus found such easy fodder to form the Venatori.
My next project would be to color in the Elvish Empire of Arlathan, but it's so spread out it'd be...difficult. Any suggestions on making a fun elf map? ![]()

I admit I laughed pretty hard at your post. Not because of the content, but the timing of it.
It made me think of a bunch of people yelling about something, and then someone says something random just to get them to stop. Not your intention, I am sure. But I giggled all the same.
"RAWR these people said mean crap about Solas"
"Yeah I didn't like it either!"
"OMG I'm sooo mad too!"
"I LOVE MAP!"

THIS. Imagine the **** storm if they had shown that scene and people got to the end credits. They would've felt violated and that Solas had lied in his genuine interest in the relationship. By maintaining Solas' interest in Lavellan BECAUSE she's Lavellan - her personality, her spirit, her actions, her curiousity and wisdom - we have no choice but to accept that the interest was genuine. Did he find her beautiful? Did he enjoy the grace with which she moved? Yes. But those were merely enjoyable side benefits to the part he loved most: her. Just as she was.
