[Sable Rhapsody]

Playing an archer in DAI makes me warm and tingly inside. I have never before seen such love bestowed upon what is otherwise an underpowered and unloved class. Some nights it's hard to decide if it should be my bow or Solas next to me in my bedroll, lemme tell you.

 

I just wish I had more game to play through after crafting the kick-assiest of bows.

 

I got Garahel's bow in the Temple of Mythal, and I had JUST crafted another bow ><  So I runed Garahel's for cleansing, and dumped a fire rune on my crafted one.  I LOVE the sniper rogue build in this game.  It makes me feel like such a badass.

So i did that character ranking thing.  First time I did it, it was all sorts of wrong.  I made the mistake of hitting 'I like both' too often.  Second try seems more accurate, but ehhhh it's still off, for me.

edit #2:  While I love the DAI characters, I don't know if I would really put Dorian above Morrigan, Alistair, Flemeth, and Varric.  I would personally have some of those at a tie, because I can't put them above one another.  It was fun to do, though.

Crystal White is really good and well-written, though.  It's sort of like replaying the post-Temple of Mythal breakup scene.  IT HURTS SO GOOD.

 

 

NOnono, read it. There are a few sad parts, but it's very well-written overall and there are fluffy parts too!

NO!  READ IT!  And that's not where it ends.  There's more coming.  AHHHH no don't have that reaction, it's a great story.  I don't want to give anything away.  It starts out set in AU Arlathan, the next part is going to be present day.  Yes that one thing is so sad, but the journey up until it is fantastic.  And like I already said there's more story to come.  Sometimes something really bad has to happen, that makes you miserable because there's something so good to come that makes it worthwhile.  I say that not knowing how the author is going to finish the next part, it might be more heart ache.  

 

Their interpretation of Solas is fabulous.  It even feels like him.  

Oh it's not the end?...I don't know maybe I'll give it a read. I'm really not into fanfiction stories that have sad endings hahaha of course that's just me.

My first DAI playthrough was with a human female to romance Cullen , because let's face it, it's been a long time coming. But I managed to **** up pritty badly, made Leliana a murdering psycho (damn it woman , how many times do I have to unharden you! make up your mind already!), didn't get Dorian's personal quest, missed a ton of dungeons, Celine executed Gaspard and threw out Briala....you get my point.

But after the Fade scene with Solas , which is REALLY intimate IMO, with whoever your PC, I was like let's roll a Lavellan and see how it goes. I also youtubed the whole romance so I don't screw it up, but I was also prepared emotionally.

 

Also I LOVE the city elf origin for both female and male. It's absolutely amazing how the perspective changes depending on your gender. The male Tabris gets to invade the castle and kill everyone including the dogs. Like there was a scene where you can wake up a guard just so he can witness his death ,and your cousin ***** his pants over your brutality. I love how your fury could be absolutely consuming.

I actually blushed the first time I heard the line.  I just sat there, staring at him for a good minute before I remember I was supposed to be clicking dialogue options.  In fact, I think Solas is the only BioWare character who's managed to make me blush IRL with the stuff he says.

Let me clarify that the sad end is the ending to the current part of the story.  It is sad.  The author is continuing the story in a 2nd part that is set in present day.  I don't want to say any more than that because I run the risk of ruining what makes this story enjoyable.  If super sadness is a trigger you're trying to avoid I advise not reading the final chapter of part 1 until they have stuff up for the 2nd part.  I haven't been on there in a few days so they might have started the 2nd part already.  Chapter 16 is very sad, chapter 17 is where it starts again, just for reference.

 

edit:  I just checked, they indeed have added chapters that is for the 2nd part.  Well I know what I'm gonna go do!

My top ten is actually more like my top 18, because I had so many that were tied. BUT it took 278 battles to get to this list and it seems fairly accurate.

I think a lot of people head canon that if they did do the do, they did it that night.  He's kind of drunk(maybe). He's gloriously impressed by her mastery of the game and just totally turned on.  I see it.  I get it. I support the smut.

I wish all the companions could have had little cutscenes about the shenanigans they got into with the ball. Vivienne being in her element, Cole maybe helping people out, Cassandra being completely unhappy. Maybe have Solas act a bit more like Fen'Harel and get into some mischief. Most people would chalk it up to the drinking, until the very end.

Well Sera is very invested in the idea that there's no fundamental difference between herself and other commoners. Solas, on the other hand, believes that elves are indeed fundamentally different, and I'm inclined to believe him. After all, elves were once immortal. It was apparently an intrinsic part of being elven. They lost their immortality, but elves are still very different. Only an elf/elf pairing results in an elven child, which David Gaider has hinted at as having some magical basis. Only elven blood could activate the lights of Arlathan in Witch Hunt, and only elven blood could activate the mask of Fen'harel in that live-action piece with Felicia Day. There's a magical quality to elven blood that is unique.

 

In addition, in the Masked Empire:

That place inside the Eluvian Network, implied to be the Crossroads, responds better to elves, while humans feel uncomfortable while travelling in it.

 

Since all magic comes from the Fade, all of this makes me conclude that elves have a special connection to the Fade. In that context, Solas and Cole's comments to Sera make a lot of sense. It doesn't require her to be especially magical, because her inherent elfiness is what they're referencing. That said, I do think she has some inborn magical talent, even more than your average elf, but not enough for her to be identified as a mage and sent to the circle. Her magic manifests as more practical stuff, like really good aim and special intuition. She's very insightful, even though she doesn't like to admit it, and I think part of that insight is her magical talent. But I don't think she needs to have magical talent either. I think it makes just as much sense if she doesn't.

 

I am very much inclined to agree with you. Elves, according to Corypheus at least, do have a special connection to the Fade. The "Claws of Dumat" note you find during "Here Lies the Abyss" heavily implies that Elven blood was an important factor in the Magisters' initial attempt to breach the Fade:

Master - now Corypheus - told me that my people, the elves of old, were tied to the Fade, and that in order to carry out the will of Dumat, he would need to call upon the magic that lives in our blood.
